Now that ADT email is going away, where are you all going for email accounts?
I enjoyed having a separate email here to use for my naughty stuff, but I'm not sure where to go now.
Has anyone ever used "TarMail"?
Any recommendations?

Gmail. Once you post your email anywhere, you'll be spammed to oblivion. Yahoo, AOL, Hotmail....none of them have decent spam filtering. By comparison, I rarely get ANY spam hitting my inbox on my Gmail account. It's also got a speedy user interface for a freebie email app, and you can easily access it via POP3/IMAP clients (such as an iPhone or Bberry) meaning you aren't locked into using a webmail client to do your emails.
I've got 9 gmail accounts now, one for each handle I maintain for various special-interest boards. I still have my original Yahoo account for this handle and I get between 300-400 spam emails per day on that one that do NOT get trapped by the spam filter.
Gmail all the way IMHO.

I use Gmail but I wouldn't trust Google if you expect perfect privacy. On the other hand, I don't know of any email provider you can trust 100% so.....

There is no such thing as privacy on any computer that is connected to the internet... If someone wants your data, they will get it and at the end of the day there's really nothing you can do to stop them.
(Not that is it's worth trying)

I've been using techemail.com for years. It's not fancy but works for me. The biggest downside is they'll wipe out all your mail if 45 or 60 (I don't remember which) days of inactivity.

yahoo has really terrible spam filters, gmail i found is much better but only for the time being it soon will become overcrowded and over run with garbage

I liked fastmail for a while, until my account there expired after 6 months of inactivity. Now they don't have free accounts. Yahoo requires a phone number. Hotmail is owned by Microsoft. Etc.

Yahoo keeps asking me for a phone number at random times when I log into my e-mail accounts there. I always click "skip" or whatever. It's possible they require one for new accounts, I don't know. Yahoo has been terrible for a while. They all seem to be shit, though.

Same here, except it's every time I log in. It's very annoying because it adds three more clicks every time I want to check mail. It doesn't go away. I've been doing it for months now.
I'd switch but I've had them for a long time and like you say I don't think there's anything better out there. I'm sorry I'm one of their users. I do like the effectiveness of the spam folder. That's about it. I hate the last two "upgrades" they've done to the appearance. Sometimes there's a lag in the latest one (I assume from scripts running) of up to six seconds before I can log out.

^ Every time they "update" their Android app, it breaks the spam filter. And I, too, am sick of the "we're trying to make Yahoo more secure" bug screens. No, I am not going to change my password. I have zero confidence in your ability to safeguard my password, so why the fuck would I want to change it to some ridiculous 19 character thing that looks like the cat walked on the keyboard, that I'm not going to be able to remember?
