At least in the gay porn industry, most porn videos are shot in their entirety with 2 or 3 cameras in 1 to 3 days. In spite of the hype from the cast members (including stuff published in a variety of "reliable" porn sources) about high salaries or fees, most get paid somewhere between $500 and $2500 for the entire shoot. A very few get paid a tiny bit more. (If you really believe the amounts claimed by Ryan Idol and Ken Ryker for Idol in the Sky and Ryker's Revenge then I've a bridge I'd be happy to sell you - it's located in Brooklyn). The TOTAL budget for these videos is rarely more than $25,000 from conception to ready for duplication including everything: salaries, sets, props, equipment rentals ... literally everything. A very few projects are given a few extra dollars to work with but it is mighty few projects and mighty few extra dollars.

A few directors / producers with a very few companies make a greater effort at least with some of their product. Good examples are videos by Bruce Cam (of Titan Media), Wash West, Cazzo, George Duroy (of Bel Ami), Wim Hof, Lucas Kazan ... and I've probably missed one or two others. Even Falcon makes a once-a-year effort at quality product, Out of Athens being one of their more recent ones.

Then there is Kristen Bjorn.

Bjorn spends as much or more time and money shooting one scene as others spend on an entire video. His attention to detail rivals the efforts of Hollywood's best. With most other videos, you can count the cameras on the scene by the number of cum-shot angles as the same ejaculation is repeated on screen ad nauseum in slow motion so as to fill screen time. With Bjorn's videos, multiple ejaculations by a cast member are indicative of the number of days spent filming that particular scene. There is no filler in a Bjorn film. None. Nada.

Bjorn's cast members are usually unknowns - but only for a short time: Other studios seem to spend more time chasing down Bjorn stars, every single one of whom is A-list quality, than recruiting their own. While one or two might not be to ones taste in men, there is no denying that they are all, every one, exceptional examples of manhood. Cocks, Bodies and Faces, Oh My!

Attention to the sex scenes (or their quantity) is not the only way Bjorn's videos show their quality: The backgrounds and video footage used to set the scenes are equally impressive. In his most recent effort, The Isle of Men, the background scenery gives hints of what is to come in the story line in each of the scenes. Even the type of ship in the water as the scene opens is symbolic of what is going on.

There is a lot of bad porn out there, some of it with a few redeeming scenes or a few really hot cast members. Then there is the good stuff - the titles we give scores of 4 and above to over in the review section - and look what we say about it: mostly hot guys, mostly hot sex, etc. And then there is Bjorn, whose very worst videos are probably his Australian trio and the worst of those three, A Sailor in Sydney, his sixth video ever, is still very good (a 3-1/2 by our review standards) - this out of only twenty-six videos produced over a fifteen year career where every single video has been a blockbuster best seller. (By my own personal scoring, I'd give him 3 titles at 3-1/2 stars, 4 more titles at 4 stars, 10 titles at 4-1/2 stars and 9 titles with the ultimate 5 star rating.)

Yes, I paid $60 for Bjorn's The Isle of Men and, even having watched it seven times now, I'd have paid $100, had he asked it. I've never felt ripped-off by a Bjorn video, a feeling all too common after purchasing and viewing many efforts from many other studios.

I also like my "regular" movies so between buying them and adult films I could easily go in debt big time.

I try and wait for a deal or sale but thats hard to come by......but for those of you who do pick up the high-end flicks...go for it and ENJOY!!!

No, I don't watch some of them often. There are a few I will never watch again. In fact, there are probably about 40 to 50 that I will eventually decide to trade or give away. But, for the most part, I'm happy with my purchases. And I will continue to add to my collection.
