It used to be said that “the customer is always right” but far too often nowadays this is not the case. Furthermore people will pay for what they want. With this in mind, I propose a new adult performer compensation system that would be mutually agreeable to all parties involved (studios, stars, and fans). Here’s how it could work. Adult Performers Performers could use marketing research to find out if there is significant demand for a particular scene in a genre. A poll on their websites (if applicable), forums like this and retail sites like Adult Video Universe for example could be helpful in data collection. Then, using social media and their websites they could announce that they are willing to do a particular scene if a certain dollar amount is reached in a specified period of time. Fans Fans would then pledge a certain amount based on their means using their credit or debit cards that would be captured by a reputable third party entity like CCBill, Epoch, or Paypal. These funds would be captured at the time of transaction and refunded to the fan if for some reason the target amount for the scene was not reached in allotted amount of time or the performer was unwilling or unable to live up to actually doing the scene. Third Party Entities The third party entity would be responsible for reporting to the pledger the amount that has been raised via email, etc over the course of time. This would prevent the performer from sitting on one amount yet reporting another to the fans. Studios The studios would still be responsible for paying fair market value per scene despite what the performer raises on his/her own from their agreement with the fans. Studios could promote and market the performer’s particular scene in the genre as they already do. However, this would be revenue neutral for the studios in terms of additional compensation for performers. In the end, fans get the porn we want, the performer earns more, and the studios sell just as many units if not more. Practical Example: Based on several polls, many fans would like to see Alexis Texas do an interracial scene. Alexis Texas agrees to do an IR scene with Mr. Marcus if she is compensated $10,000 for the scene by the fans who want her to perform the scene by 10/15/11. She tweets this as well as promotes her fund raising drive on her website with links to the third party for payment. I along with a few thousand other fans pledge a few bucks and the goal reached by 9/5/11. They go into production mode and by 11/1/11 “X” studio releases “Alexis Texas Goes Black: The First Ever Fan Subsidized Adult Film”. The film is a huge success and even wins an AVN. More top tier performers adopt this model and the industry is changed forever. THE END BTW, I’m not in the industry at all just a fan. [Link] |

They can shoot a downloadable or streamable scene on their website without involving 'the industry' per se. Each performer that has a website can conduct her own internal polling and shoot scenes for her website and charge what she wants for the 'premium scene'. And she doesn't have to use a high dollar male performer to perform the genre. |
| equippedblk Member 6 Posts 7/11 | For instance I recently became a fan of a performer that I happened to see on the cover of a studio produced DVD. I sought her out on this website to see if she had anything else out and ended up buying another DVD featuring this performer. I eventually went to her website only to find that it was very limited and didn't feature a genre that I was interested in. This experience was the impetus for trying to design a mechanism whereby everyone gets exactly what they want by empowering the performer and the fan while letting the studio do what it does best. |

The $16K ($8K multiplied by two) hit the studio takes could actually net them a profit as the first time interracial scene (in this example) would allow them to sell more units at $29.99 or $39.99 each (at $29.99 with a $10 cost the number of extra units to break even under this scheme would be 804). I guarantee a first time interracial with a top billing star would sell more than 804 more units than a run of the mill movie. |

I am NOT in favor of smothering rules, regulations, laws, guidelines, penalties, warnings, threats and restrictions. This would all come about if your ideas were adopted. Is it not enough I have to get an FBI warning every single time I load a DVD???? I'm frankly sick of all the threatening notices and find it annoying when I press my skip button or fast forward button but it is usually rendered useless because they disable the feature and I have to wait for the threatening notice from the FBI to go away. Why must I read about my potential imprisonment every time I want to view something for entertainment? Your thoughts would come with endless warnings, restrictions, penalties and more interference from authorities. This has been tried on our economy and it has failed. Business does not like interference by law makers. The adult industry should be left alone, people will decide what they want, those who provide it will prosper, those who do not will vanish. There has never been more options to choose from in porn than today. |
| Tolham Member 10 Posts 7/11 | i think porn stars need to unionize, then the union should start their own website - a hulu/netflix for porn. there would need to be plenty of free content to draw people, but for new releases they could charge say $0.99 for 3 viewings or something. the website could start off like this: the studios gather their old videos that they've already made a profit on, and let the website stream them for free to the public. when a user views one of these old videos, there's a quick 5 - 10 second commercial before the video starts (the video would be uninterrupted from then on). the money made from this commercial gets split between the website and the studios. this has a two-fold effect: the free streaming of properly tagged & cataloged porn will draw viewers. the money-for-nothing deal will get the studios interested in doing business. then: |

It's a personal preference but there is not a single adult performer I care to see over and over again, it loses its appeal no matter how good they look, the sex becomes boring. A steady stream of first timers, new comers, fresh faces can't be beat. I find the one and done girls to deliver some of the more memorable performances. |
