Seagate just upped the warranty of their drives bought after July 26, 2004 to 5 years. :) The drive is fast, really quiet (No idle whine, reads and writes can be heard if you listen carefully.) and it has an excellent reputation for being a very reliable drive. The plus model comes with an 8MB cache. Linkage: Seagate product page for ST3120026A. I have never had a Seagate drive from this family or from one of the before (Barracuda IV and V) fail on me. During the years I have installed them to our clients and our own work machines, no problems encountered. I currently have four of them running at my home (40GB Barracuda IV, 80GB PATA and SATA Barracuda 7200.7´s and 200GB SATA Barracuda 7200.7). Fast, quiet and reliable. The difference in performance in desktop and office use is negligible when compared to modern 7200rpm drives. You really can´t tell the difference if the rest of the machine isn´t state of the art or even relatively modern and you don´t push it to the limits storage systems wise. The cost is also prohibitive especially if one has to buy the controller etc. And figuring in the factor that that thing is not quiet by any means and pumps out quite a lot of heat... For the best site about HDD´s and such I would guide you to storagereview.com. Lot´s of nice people there, just go to the forums and ask. The advice you get is usually the advice you need.
