I came across Cheekydvds who seem to offer an interesting sounding DVD rental service. Everything despatched from within the UK with a postage-paid return envelope. £14.95 for 1 DVD at a time and £19.95 for 2 at a time.
They are currently offering a two week free trial and I am seriously considering signing up.
They seem to be based in Fife, Scotland which makes me think they must be trustworthy.
Hi Athos, used them last year, I found the service to be very good. Very quick on the dispatch of disks also the envelopes that they use are plain and discreet unlike Privates service, might not suit everyone as the disks are R18s.
I should have made it clearer, those prices are per month for "unlimited" rentals.
Regarding the titles being certificated R18, I'm against censorship on general principal however most of the titles I'm interested in have been passed without any cuts, according to the BBFC website. Even those that have been censored the cuts seem to be only a few minutes at most out of a 2 hour running time.
Firstly apologies for not posting an update earlier but business commitments have been disrupting my personal life.
Overall I'm reasonably happy with the service and I'm going to give it at least another month before deciding whether to continue. The two week free trial was a bit disappointing in that it took a week before I even received my first disc and I didn't really get a fair idea of how the service would perform. Probably my fault for not having enough items in my rental queue.
They obviously have a limited inventory and if your rental queue contains nothing that is available then you just have to wait. Now I'm keeping a very long rental queue I'm receiving more discs but I've been waiting several weeks for the items at the top of the queue that I really want to see. When items are in stock they send an email to let you know they have been posted and they arrive next day complete with a reply paid envelope.
My main problem seems to be I can't find enough stuff I want to rent and what I really want to see a lot of other people do as well.
Unless you were familiar with the movie in an uncensored version, Stefan, I don't know if there is any way of telling - no source for such info that I am aware of. All you can do is compare running times. Jacco from Your Choice discusses this topic in this recent thread.
Yes, the BBFC provide details of cuts, as well as statistics for each category (currently, 25.2% of R18 titles submitted in 2005 have been cut), but, as Gabriel Nine points out, there is no mandatory requirement for distributors to declare whether they have censored material prior to submission to the BBFC, so it does not tell the full story.
FYI, a couple of recent decisions by the BBFC that resulted in particularly severe censorship:-
Red Light District`s Gang Bang Voulme 3
When submitted to the BBFC the work had a running time of 136m 32s.
To obtain this category cuts of 21m 22s were required., some or all of these cuts were substitutions. The cuts were Compulsory. Cuts required to remove images of sexual threats, humiliation and abuse (woman gagging and woman gagging while her head being held in position during deep throat fellatio and woman`s head being pressed down on floor by force while being penetrated from behind) from an R18 video. Cuts made in accordance with BBFC Guidelines, BBFC policy and the Video Recordings Act 1984
Angels Of Debauchery 3
When submitted to the BBFC the work had a running time of 119m 42s.
To obtain this category cuts of 27m 37s were required., some or all of these cuts were substitutions. The cuts were Compulsory. Cuts were required to R18 work for elements of abusive activity and potential harm (in this instance, women gagging during fellatio and being subjected to slapping and throat-grabbing during sexual activity), in accordance with BBFC guidelines and policy. R18s can only be sold in licensed sex shops.
Hi Stefan, I've heard good feedback about [invalid URL removed]DVDMonthly who send the real deal from the Netherlands. I keep meaning to give them a try.
The Private at Home service may also be of interest. As you may know this has been unavailable for quite some time but is threatening to start up again next month (May). However this date seems to be a moving target as their previously announced intention to recommence in February was abandoned.
DVDMonthly is great for genuinly unedited porn, but sadly they are missing a few great studios - Mayhem, Evil Angel etc - though you can still get some great gonzo stuff from the likes of Red Light District and Zero Tolerance. I use them and have had no problems with the post or turnaround times so far.
