Howdy I'm a newbie with some questions.

1. Lesbian gonzo. Does it exist and if so what can you recommend?
2. What is a 'raincoater'? I couldn't find it in that dictionary.
3. Why is 'reverse cow-girl' named that way?
4. Are all private movies dubbed? I find it really annoying.
5. And just another dumb one: Why do most stores call these girl movies 'All girl' instead of 'lesbian movies'.

1. Yes, there is lesbian gonzo. I don't watch it. I hear Bella's Perversions 3 is good, but I'll let the guys who like all-girl fill you in on what's good.

2. thread on raincoaters

3. Cowgirl - she rides him. Reverse cowgirl - she rides him, but facing the other direction (his feet).

4. The Private movies that I have seen (Faust, Italian Flair, Gladiator) were all annoying, for various reasons.

5. I agree with the term 'All girl.' Most of the women are not lesbians, they just get paid to do girls.

Yes.
I am lousy at recommending things.
I couldn't find it there either. There is a (cultural) history behind the term (basically about guys jerking off under their raincoats in the theatre, in the days before VHS existed). Since then the term has been used and abused in so many different contexts, it has gathered too much meaning and therefor is practically useless, IMO.
Lindi is good at explaining different sex positions. This time makes no acception.
No. And I agree.
Maybe because otherwise the main market segment, heterosexual males, might feel threatened?

Welcome colm! Most of your questions have been answered, but I would just like to say that whenever anyone has a new entry for our porn dictionary, please email Steph with the word and definition. Some things were overlooked in the initial daunting task of gathering of information, but it was never my intention to be the sole maintainance of it, and not being a 'raincoater' myself, I am not sure what the correct definition would be.

Lesbian gonzo that I've enjoyed is the Slumber Party series, first done by Shane and then by Sky.

Go rent the very funny movie THE OWL AND THE PUSSY CAT, 1970 starring Barbara Steisand (back when she was funny) and George Segal. About halfway through you'll come to a scene that will explain where the term "raincoater" came from. You'll know it when you see it.

FWIW: The original theatrical release of THE OWL AND THE PUSSY contained a shot where Barbara Steisand tells a bunch of young punks to go "Fuck off!"

Not long after its release that one part of the scene was cut, and the result is that the scene doesn't quite play right on the VHS release (you can't figure out why it ends with the punk agrily chasing Barbara and George. Maybe the missing line has been restored on the DVD.

-Lesbian gonzo does exist. try Bella's Perversions #1, #2.
And a title called Evil Pink that will be out soon from evil angel. There is also a series called Buttslammers that is gonzo as well.
-Not all Private movies are dubbed. There is a thread here on ADT that has a list of Privtae movies with direct sound, no dubbing.
-I don't know why it's called all girl, but it is apt, mostly because I don't thnk most of these girls are real lesbians anyway, they all do guys as well, unless you find the real lesbian stuff, which is damn near impossible.

Which begs the question why we have "gay movies" instead of "all boy" movies. (No doubt the answer is that the actors involved there mostly really are homosexual - although I'm not sure of this either, since from what I've read here many of the male actors are bi, if not outright straight, in their personal lives.) In any case, it's definitely a double-standard.

But while I can understand the reasoning behind what you're saying (judging the name by the preference of the actors involved) I think that it really should be about the fiction that's being portrayed on the screen - not about what happens behind the scenes. If it's a movie about a lesbian couple, it shouldn't matter what the sexual preferences of the performers is - it should be a lesbian movie.

Having said that, I don't believe that most of these "all girl" movies really are about the portrayal of lesbian couples / groups. Don't most of them simply revolve around "straight" women who get together with girlfriends, talk about their male partners, and then who get it on with each other? In that sense, you'd be right to call it "all girl".

Still, in yet another sense, there's a point where these distinctions are a little bit ridiculous when you consider it all. At best, these "straight" women are really bi...

No, the recently released DVD still has the line cut. (Which has caused some controversy - as with all DVD releases that have differed from the original release in this kind of "censorship" fashion.)

A few weeks ago, I enjoyed reading Dirty Poole: The Autobiography of a Gay Porn Pioneer. It's my understanding that at the time Wakefield Poole released Boys in the Sand (1971) and Bijou (1972), gay movies actually were called "all male films." The advertisements and posters for those movies used the term "all male," anyhow. Which still begs the question of how things got to where they're at today. I admit there is much in porn that confuses me, and the double standard stuff is the worst. I wish at least we'd use the term "all female" instead of "all girl." I personally find "girl" to be a bit demeaning, which is why I spell my nickname with two r's instead. Maybe it's just me, though; I don't hear too many other women agitating for change on this point.

Would that mean you'd have to change your nickname to YogaFemlle? <grin>

P.S. Personally, I would always prefer the company of a woman to that of a girl. And, yes, at the very least the terms used should be consistent across gender lines.

Tee hee! YogaFemlle is a bit more of a mouthful, but then again, I love having my mouth full.

To get back to the original question, my WAG is that "all girl" is simply more concise than "lesbian movies;" it gets the point across fast in a short space, and yes, it's kind of cute (potentially less threatening, as Walter pointed out).

>1. Lesbian gonzo. Does it exist?

Good question. Probably NOT. Here is an interesting thought experiment: take your favourite hetero gonzo film (e.g. Euro Angels Hardball 20), imagine how it would look with an all-female cast, then compare this to the all-female stuff actually on the market. The difference is huge!! Almost all lesbian hardcore is low-paced, low-energy, dildo insertion stuff. Many people are so disappointed with the harder lesbian videos, that they now prefer the softer material (with lots of kissing, pussy licking, breast play etc). See for example the LezLoveVideo website.

>What can you recommend?

* Buttslammers: well okay, this is lesbian hardcore. But it is very peculiar and I don't recommend it. The scenes start with dancing, the girls use a lot of oil, and they wear rubber gloves... [see how this infinitely far from gonzo?]
* Everybody wants some: this is similar to Buttslammers (same label: NuTech), but actually slightly better, since there is no dancing.
* Bella's Perversions: widely recommended but I haven't seen it yet.
* Sky's Perversions: similar to Bella's Perversions but (apparently) not as good.
* Dirty Girlz: this is a recent Jewel D'Nyle title that got some positive reviews here at ADT. In my opinion you better avoid it, because it is mediocre and boring and has nothing to do with gonzo.
* Gut gebaut und top versaut: this is a Videorama title. Actually it is just another Harry S. Morgan film (so it has a lot of fisting and anal) but this one is with an all-female cast. I like it! It is easily better than 99 % of the American lesbian porn on the market.
