But, at my company, when we cut checks from our accounts payable system, we also create a file known as a positive pay file. We send that file directly to our bank electronically (I believe that it can also be done manually through a website). This file contains the check number and the amount for every check we wrote. If the bank is presented with any checks with different numbers or amounts than the ones that we sent them, they decline the check. It seems to me that the manual version of the same process is something that every porn producer should be utilizing. I would also highly recommend that anybody who owns a business or is responsible for generating checks for a company, read The Art of the Steal : How to Protect Yourself and Your Business from Fraud, America's #1 Crime by Frank Abignale. He's the guy who Leonardo DeCaprio played in "Catch Me If You Can". After going straight, he got into the business of fraud protection and has invented the vast majority of the safety items that have to do with the checking industry. The only negative about this book is that it is a little outdated when it comes to Internet fraud. It was written in 2001. I think that the Internet has become a much safer place than it was when he wrote this book. [Link]
