A few years ago, those of us who regularly, uh, read -- yeah, that's the ticket! -- Penthouse, Playboy and Playboy newsstand specials kept a kn eye out for centerfolds and recognizable models who moved from the magazines into porn. It was somewhat big news when a Penthouse Pet started doing hardcore, and I always thought that porn producers missed some good marketing opportunities by not playing up the debut of such womn more.

That was, however, before Penthouse startd regularly recruiting porn stars as Pets. Perhaps more importantly, it was before the days of the Internet, which changed things into ways. First, it allowed models to try to generate cash from another source besides magazine shoots; a model can extend her shelf life without doing porn, or, if she does do porn, she can do so for her website, where has more control over what, with whom and when she does it. See Sandee Westgate.

Second, the rise of the Internet has allowed models to bypas magazines completely, so there's a lot of potential newcummers out there from an entirely new source.

My question, then, is whether, in the current environment, how likely is it that we'll see a Playboy centerfold besides Teri Weigel or Victoria Zdrok, or a model who's already made something of a name for herself either in print or the Internet, in hardcore? Assuming they were willing to do so, which is admittedly a big "if," would the return on whatever additional investment required be worth it to a producer.

A while back, after Victoria Zdrok did a film for Michael Ninn, I recall reading a quote from him that suggested he had other prominent models lining up, interested in shooting for him. (I suspect that most of the women I'm thnking of would rather shoot on a Ninn set than in a warehouse.) I can't locate the quote, and I haven't seen the line forming ... but, as Karen Carpenter sang, "I can dream, can't I?"

How likely is it? It depends on each individual. They don't come from a factory or anything. It's not like figuing out the probability of part failure in a car.
However, since Playboy competes more with Maxim and Stuff than Hustler , I would say unlikely.
Would it be worth the investment? That depends on how much money is demanded and how well it is marketed. If the woman is well known before doing porn, that would help a lot. Teri Weigel helped herself a bit there (remember this was before the internet and dozens of very bad cable shows) by being on Married with Children as Al Bundy's fantasy woman.

Then again, I am really bad at guessing at the motives of women and what they will do. Maybe tomorrow all the Playmates will sign on to do gonzo porn at less than industry rates.
