I love Nica's movies: if you're into the themes presented the plot/characters actually add to the eroticism which is more than can be said for any of modern porn's laughable attempts at a plot I've seen. I believe that the more taboo/fetishistic the theme the easier it will be for the viewer to suspend his disbelief while watching(and thus the more aroused by the character dynamics he will be). read the interview with Nica on ABCnews. It was good and I agreed with mot of it. Only thing i would disagree with is the tone of the article suggests that no woman would really be interested in gonzo porn or anything without a plot. Personally I enjoy a good elegant angel or jules jordan scene just as much as I enjoy features and the plot driven movies Nica makes. I don't think that makes me any less of a woman, or any less intelligent. Seemed to be a generalization that could be just as polarizing to women as the generalization the article was arguing against. That's not to say I don't appreciate the sentiment - was just a little disheartened by the comments about gonzo and the perpetuation to the belief that even in porn women are only 'supposed to' enjoy a certain type.

Her split from GFF was definitely the best thing that could happen to G/G porn on general, because Sweetheart really took over after its inception. And now Girl Candy Films is doing many more great things for this genre, moving it along, sometimes even reinventing it. But as of now other great directors (I'm looking at this from a strict G/G pov) have made their mark, Dana Vespoli comes to mind, but also performers like Sovereign Syres seem to have what it takes to be a great porn director. Anyhow, what I wanted to say is that Nica Noelle (almost) single handedly redefined the whole world of lesbian porn.

I'd like to start by saying that generalizing male taste in porn is as stupid as generalizing female sexuality. There are women who want to be manhandled, handcuffed, tied up, suspended, choked, slapped and those who prefer a softer approach. Different strokes for different folks. To me, calling Nica the best director ever is highly subjective and arguably buries the current crop of great directors along with any future potentially magnificent ones. Is Nica Noelle one of the best? Absolutely, she was and remains a pioneer at least for me in movies that seduced me from the first scene almost always down to the last. Prior to seeing her work, I was a gonzo man indulging in the early days of the Bangbus, Bang Boat, Backseat Bangers, Up & Cummers courtesy of Randy West and Dirty Debutantes from Ed Powers. Then one day I caught a clip of a scene from Nica Noelle's Lesbian Truth or Dare #5 and it awakened something in me that I never knew I had. A carnal, insatiable hunger for pornography that did as much for my mind as it did for my body. I got hooked with scenes that left my heart pounding, my palms sweaty and me struggling not to blow my load before even one of the performers was fully naked. Nica opened that door for me personally and as a result, there's a whole new group of directors whose work I as much as Nica's from Dana Vespoli to Jacky St James to Bree Mills & Stills By Alan.
Does anyone know why Nica either left or was replaced as director after making certain studios successful? From what I understand, she started with GFF, then moved on-by choice-to direct for SweetSinner/Sweetheart Video/SweetSinema. Dana Vespoli took over as director for those studios.
After that, Nica founded Girl Candy and Hot Candy Films, both of which she turned into successful brands. She then forayed into transgender porn with TransSensual, which, again, I think, Dana Vespoli eventually took over as director. Nica then ventured into gay porn with Icon Male I think, and after that, she seemed to disappear from the industry.
I know it's subjective to say she was the best director ever, but for me, she really was. I consistently enjoyed her work more than that of any other studio or creator. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but a lot of Bree Mills' work seems influenced by, or derived from, what Nica did. For example, WeLikeGirls feels like a modern version of GFF's Lesbian Sex series, and Transfixed seems like an evolution of TransSensual.
Nica had a rare talent for bringing out the best in her performers and creating truly engaging scenes. I think she deserves recognition for helping to reshape how transgender porn is portrayed-moving it away from demeaning stereotypes toward something far more respectful and authentic.
I can't help but wonder what her impact would be if she were still active in today's industry.
