I just bought Barely Legal In The City & Hustler Platinum 2: Brazilian Snake and both movies are great but at the start of the disk there are two ads. that you cannot skip over (phonesex ad. and Longitude penis enlargement pills!) I find it extremely annoying that you have to sit through 2-3 minutes of crap on a DVD that you buy! So HUSTLER: I dont mind that it's there but please allow the user to skip over it, dammit!

Dude if you have a display button on your dvd remote then just switch to a different title...I always go to Title #5 and I can see the movie right away.

I've neen lucky enuff, I haven't bought a DVD that tries to push some crap at the beginning of it.

So now I may never buy a Hustler DVD, if I have to be insulted by them telling me to enlarge my penis, when I'm quite satisfied with my size.

Don't mess with what works.

---mjh666, thanks for the heads up.

I have the same problem with Barely Legal in the City-- just received it yesterday. Great porn, really annoying ads. I am sure that pornographers may snicker at us complaining about insulting our intelligence with locked ads when they make a living appealing to our baser instincts, but still...

So Hustler, if your listening: Love your BL and Hot Showers series. Don't care if you have ads at the end, or even at the beginning as long as you can skip through them. But fuck if I'll sit through that nonsense just so you can make another few bucks when I'm already paying a (justifiable) premium for your product.

From mjh666:
That's actually pretty common with adult movies. It is technically done the same way as "forced subtitling" with your local mainstream titles, especially Scanbox's. You can fight it by upgrading your player with a proper modification (for example www.dvdupgrades.ch) or simply using a player that doesn't give a hoot for User Operation Prohibitions such as most Chinese players.

Some regular brands actually can be fooled to bypass UOP's, you can try for example pausing during the ads and then go to the menu or using Steve K's method starting the movie straight from the title not by pressing play.

For more and better info you can search the internet with UOP, "FBI mod" and your players brand/model.

We're not doing forced ads now-it was a bad decision on our part, and won't happen again.

Thanks.

Thanks lfp, and welcome to the forum.

It was a very irritating practice and I'm glad to hear that it is now gone.

I wish more companies would realize this because it's the most annoying part of a DVD. Why force anyone to watch those stupid ads? I have the same problem with Nymph Pictures DVD's btw. I have to wait like 5 minutes before I can finally watch the movie!

Hustler VHS/DVD Policy.

Just to clarify our new policy for those interested:

VHS: We will still have previews and limited ads (including phone sex) on our VHS titles. We are exploring putting these ads at the end rather than the beginning of the movies.

DVD: No Blocked Ads, and any product ads (including phone sex) will be in a menu section rather than launched before the movie begins. We will usually go straight into the movie or have one relevant trailer (eg. Brazilian Snake trailer on an Exxxotica film) before the movie begins. We will also have a previous menu box.

Please share your comments and/or questions. We want to do everything possible to keep our customers happy!

Thanks,

Perhaps you could start a new thread, because "Screwed by Hustler" doesn't sound to great when you're looking for ways of improving your product.

Just a suggestion.

No problem here (or at least I wouldn't if I watched VHS). In fact, putting them at the end would be preferrable if I watched them.
Straight into the movie sounds a heck of a lot better than a trailer (even a relevant one) before it. Di$ney tried that in mainstream and pissed off a lot of people. If you do put a trailer before the movie starts, please let the viewer be able to easily skip it and go to the movie by having it as its own chapter. Better yet would be to go with the relevant trailer after the movie (once again as its own chapter) and a quick note before the movie starts to stay tuned for an extra trailer.

I love HUSTLER magazine and I own every issue dating back to 1986. I wrote into the magazine with this idea I have, but got no response. Here it is:

I'm sure lots of people have their favorite centerfolds... the HUSTLER pictorials that never fail to make you rock-hard. How about simultaneously filming a video at the same shoot where the still photos are being taken?

I love the solo masturbation scenes that appear in the pages of HUSTLER. On the pages, they always try to sell DVDs by saying something like "see Jessica in Barely Legal #21" or something. But it's in a different setting with other actors. I'd rather see the actual photo shoot "come to life" on video or DVD.

Does anyone agree with this? Is it possible? Has this idea ever been explored? Thanks.

I think that Mike is absolutely correct. Now that we have a Hustler representative here that is addressing these concerns, I am going to change the title of this thread to "(No longer being) screwed by Hustler"

Thanks for your suggestion. Woodman has done something similar for us with Superfuckers (from #13 onward are Hustler titles). We've explored it, particularly as Clive McLean shoots Hustler Magazine spreads and directs Hustler Video titles. We'll give you an update shortly.

Astro, your points are well taken. We don't force anyone to watch the previews, and you can get straight to the movie. However, we will soon be moving to a 'straight to movie' formula on all our movies across the board.
It makes sense, and the previews will always be available in their own menu box.

OK, when will Hustler Video start putting the cast list on the cover of the video?

Also, any idea when Hustler Video will start doing a "TABOO" video series?

I had exactly the same thoughts! Those thoughts are I believe shared by the overwhelming majority of Hustler readers who have a DVD Player!

You have a huge potential market there, and it won't cost you so much because the girls and set ups are already there for the photo shoot. A win win scenario for Hustler IMVHO.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO IT

Looks like we've opened a Pandora's Box here! No problem, here goes:

1) Having the cast named on the box covers is usually a creative decision, not a business one. We know we're in the minority to not list the cast names, but this is partly because our series our theme driven, not star driven. However, we will continue to look at this issue across our different series, and we have different opinions on this internally (which is healthy!). Some of our series will have the cast named on our box cover, though not all.

2) We've strongly considered a Taboo line, and it makes a lot of sense. We push the envelope on the magazine, and would want to do the same on the video series. We'll throw this back to you with a question. Who would be your 'perfect fit' as a director for such a series? We have a couple of candidates, but would welcome your comments (and those of any other readers of this thread). Nevertheless, a Taboo line is a strong possibility in the near future.

Firstly, lfp, let me also express my gratitude with both your being here at ADT as well as your welcoming suggestions. This is just awesome in itself. And speaking of ADT, this has easily been my greatest discovery as far as online forums are concerned.

Now, regarding the above quote, what about a compromise? When you don't list the stars' names on the box, why not do what the great Jules Jordan does: on his DVDs he provides a cast list by scene in the "Special Features" part of the DVD (the cast list includes the names of both the female and the male stars).

Here's why you should ALWAYS list the names of the cast members *somewhere* on or in the product:

* You frustrate your fans who might really take a liking to a particular girl, but have no clue who the girl is.

* You cause unnecessary hardship for people who review your movies who might not know who each person is in the scenes that they're trying to review. In so many cases, a reviewer will refer to some girl simply as "the blonde" because he/she has no idea who the person is.

Over the course of years, there have been many girls that I would have become a fan of and followed their careers, but couldn't because I could never figure out their names! This is also a huge problem with your magazine, Hustler XXX Hardcore. Even in Barely Legal Hardcore, you usually don't mention both the first and last name of the girls and sometimes the names provided aren't even their actual stage names at all. When you do things like that, you really do hurt the girls, because you make it harder for people to become their fans. You also frustrate your customers who would like to know the girls' full stage name.

BTW, the gold standard of hardcore magazines at naming who every girl is who appears in the magazine is John Stagliano's Buttman Magazine.

Henri Pachard. Look at his vast cinematic experience. Plus, he would be great at fully exploring and bringing to the screen the deep psychological and social aspects of such a movie.

Very humbly, I'd like to disagree.
"Screwed" is not the right word, maybe, but people who have been faithful Hustler customers FOR YEARS deserved much better than the two mandatory ads at the beginning of the discs.
Hustler stopped that practice not because they cared about the consumers, but only because of the backlash they received from it, a year-worth of protests and complaints.
So, I hope they actually changed their attitude and not just their mind after they found out that a trick had backfired on them.

Pontus has said all that it had to be said about cast-lists.
It's not just a "creative decision". It's Hustler's politics to hide the performers' names or to create fake ones. This is indeed a creative decision, but it backfires each time people try to find more products with that starlet, which is not very clever from a commercial point of view.

Edit:
About the Barely Legal Hardcore magazine. I have this list ready: Top Model X Index. The content of the two magazines is the same, so it might help. And I'll do something similar for BLH, sooner or later.

Thanks for the honesty! However, we have to respectfully disagree on your conclusions to why we changed our advertsiing policy. It had nothing to do with any 'backlash'. First, we didn't receive that many complaints and second, our sales figures didn't suggest any negative response.
We stopped the forced ads simply because it wasn't good a business practice. There was no 'trick' that backfired on us, becasue the ads were done in the open. Clearly we were not trying to hide anything with these ads. Sometimes it's possible for a company to realize that it was simply wrong, and to change its practices. We will also strive to do a better job of listing the cast members, and we hope that you note this as we continue to make improvements.
Also, it is DEFINITELY not a policy to hide or change the performers names. Quite frequently, the stars are in a number of our other productions, and so we wouldn't want to lose customers to those series. However, we will make sure we work to improve this area also. To that end, please be on the lookout for more cast profiles on our DVDs, with more information on the girls.

Hi Pontus. Thanks for your comments, and it's a pleasure to be participating on such a great forum. We'll look at putting the cast list on the DVDs by scene-it makes a lot of sense. Please remember that sometimes the stage names of the cast are out of our control, either through director error or through a decision on the part of the performer. Regardless, we'll try to improve this practice-it's clearly a frustration for a number of fans.

For something along this line, you should really lookat some of the dvd's that are put out by alscan.com, his dvds are just what you wanted, a little pricey, but about two hours of a single girl photo shoot with masturbation, peeing, and some girl/girl action once in a while; with excellent picture quality.

lfp I need to beg you Sir to fix the problem with the video quality in many of the Hustler/Pierre Woodman vhs/dvds. ..The only exception is the Hustler Platinum series but the Hustler xxx and Anal Intensive series are just terrible. ..no sharpness, low definition, dull image are some adjectives I can use to describe the video quality in those videos. The first titles were decent but starting from Hustler XXX 7 the video quality in those videos went down hill and is not getting any better (see xxx 14)...and when the sharpness is not the problem, the color is all wrong (see Anal Intensive 1) with lots of brown/yellow people. ...I wonder why is that since other Hustler vhs/dvds with euro-babes like High Octane and Precious Pink have none of the problems I just mentioned in The Hustler/Pierre Woodman videos.

As someone who buys/rents (a lot of) adult product based on cast rather than theme, I can tell you that this decision has definitely cost you some sales. I have found many cases where I have "accidentally" found that one of my favorite performers has been in one of your productions well after it was released.

I'm sure that there are other instances where I haven't found this information out by chance and therefore haven't bought that particular DVD.

I can also say that I am always more leery about renting/buying movies that don't have a cast list on the cover. This is because I have been burned too many times by too many companies when a performer pictured on a box, that has no cast credit on it, does not appear in the movie (not that I'm saying that Hustler has done this). I can't believe that I am alone in beeing leery about buying a movie with no cast list.

My initial opinion is always that if a company doesn't put the cast list on the box, they are probably hiding something. The cast list doesn't need to be prominent and it doesn't need to obstruct the artwork. however, it does need to exist on the boxcover.

I am with you on this. There is 3 criterias that I now use before buying/renting a movie.
1. Company
2. Cast
3. Director

If I see a movie that has some of my favorites actress, there is a good chance I will have a look at it. An example would be: I bought the dvd Barely Legal 2 not that long ago because of the cover girl Lindsey. I was shocked and happy to see Mrs. Cheyenne Silver on the 2nd scene of the movie. Had you guys put a cast list, I would have bought it when the dvd was released.

I got a question for you lfp2003. Do you know if Lindsey (From Barely Legal 2) has done any other movies for your company or other companies? I know she has done lots of photoshots for diverse web companies including yours. But I have not seen any other movies from her. R.A.M.E filmography only has 1 titles and its Barely Legal 2.

Same thing here, your not alone Bill. Many times I have rented movies with no cast list and felt I had wasted time and money on a movie I didnt like. Good thing I am more selective in my choices now.

For instance, every now and then people drop by asking if Frank Thring is still in the business.
In many of the movies he has done for Hustler his name is NOWHERE to be found, front cover, back cover, label, booklet.

Your comments make a lot of sense, Bill. We have a clear policy not to mislead on the box covers, although there have been extremely rare errors on our part (Den will attest to our Mr.Beaver #13 screw-up!). We'll look into having a cast listing (at least the girls) on all our box covers. I know some of our films do have this (Busty Beauties, Ghetto Booty, Black and Wild, for example)

im gonna 2nd Wally on this. i just watched Hustler XXX 19 and the video quality was horrid. very grainy and dark - the same image quality problems that have plagued Woodman's Hustler videos for as long as i can remember. it really doesn't take a rocket scientist or a video expert to see what we are talking about - just watch one yourself and compare it to ... just about anything else.

other than that, great video

Hi there,

that's really nice to have a representative of Hustler here (again).

On the picture quality question:
the picture quality of all those early Hustler VHS titles (like High Octane 1) over here in Europe was horrible. But then I switched to DVD and must say that the latest titles aren't that bad at all - but I have to say: I'm no specialist.

But let me take the chance to comment on some other Hustler questions...

Frank Thring is currently doing the following for Hustler: Hustler Confidential. His features include Hard as Diamonds and Soft as Satin (and yes, he is promoted on the box covers). He's also working with Zora Banx on Hustler's Girl +Girl, a new all-girl series. Frank's other work for Hustler has been in Babes (#1-#5 ) and Mr.Beaver (#1-#18).
