We have a new image linking policy. I'll be updating the forum rules and forum code to reflect this soon. All direct links to images in old posts will be removed.

You may no longer link directly to images from the forum. You may link to pages that contain images.

[ url=http://somedomain.com/somepicture.jpg ]please id[ /url] is no longer allowed.

[ url=http://somedomain.com/somepage.html ]please id[ /url] is allowed.

Drew, this means that the mystery babe I just posted is out too? In fact, that the mystery babe series is out altogether?

What about a PHP script that does nothing but return an image directly?

Borderline?

Yes, but as I had indicated in the past via email, I will create a means for you to continue the Mystery Babe series.

That's OK from my perspective. It's the code on someone else's server that's causing the image to load.

True, but there won't be a 'middle man' as such.
The browser will access the PHP script which will return the image, just as if the PHP file itself was an image file.

An example

Similarly (going into complete paranoia mode here), wouldn't it be possible, with the appropriate MIME header, to make a file with an HTML extension load up as an image.

I guess I'm just going to have to turn off the forum to be safe. Then I won't have to worry about this crap.

Sorry if I'm being a party pooper.

If 2257 can cause even something as simple as linking to be a potential problem for you, there's always the trusty ol' cut'n'paste.
Surely the enlightened people on Capitol Hill can't object to plain text.

It will of course be a loss, but not the end of the world.
How many posts actually have links after all?

Old school text-only? I'm feeling all nostalgic.

I don't think a mod got it. I just made a change to the forum code that automatically edits out links to images. This way all of the previous posts have been modified too.

If it should become necessary to remove links altogether it would be good if an exception could be made for links to other forum pages. Otherwise a lot of references would be lost.

Edited to add if between good and an .

I did this because I had too much time on my hands (and/or because I'm bad at prioritising), and when I had made it I remembered that there are generators that do this sort of thing.. Doh!

An example of an ASCII "art" generator.

Section 2257 sounds like something out of 1984 , or maybe Farenheit 451 !

Drew , is the solution Walter's come up with okeydokie , if so I'll start using it as well ?

And then we all can install Greasemonkey Firefox extension, and then we see those text links as real clickable links.
http://greasemonkey.mozdev.org
I have never used that.

Drew, I guess this new rule still has one single gap. i.e
RedLight and PXP!
Their DVD cover images are still hot-linkable , because they do not have a graphics tpye suffix, e.g. ".JPG" --->

That's not a problem. If there is HTML (or other markup code) on the page then the editorial control lies in the hands of the page author not the link. Although it appears to the usr like these are links directly to images, they are actually links to pages that cause the images to load.

Easier to install is the Linky extension, where you can highlight a textlink and open it in a new tab.

Tell me if this is hard, install Greasemonkey, close and restart Firefox.
go back to http://greasemonkey.mozdev.org
move mouse where "Make sure that all URLs..." link is and Click mouse's right button and choose "install user Script".
next it ask what sites, i just did hit Ok.
Now i see this text link as real link:
http://www.google.com
i don't have to highlight and choose "open it in a new tab",
like with Linky and with other similar extensions.

ps: i did try greasemonkey, it did took 2 minutes or less to install it and that script. over 10 to write this:)

But does it also work with textlinks like this:
www.google.com
google.com

??

Linky does.

Sure it can, you did highlight that text.
google.com is not really a link, so no.
and that version does not work with www.google.com,
maybe there is better script that can.

This Firefox extension is better: Linkification
Thanks to licker, it was "Where Have All The Pictures Gone?" -topic, those posts are deleted and topic is locked.

Anyway it works with
http://www.google.com and with www.google.com
but not with
google.com
Maybe that is also possible, i did not try, i just did saw that there was so many options.
But after that it's possible that when someone is talking about microsoft .net or something similar and he/she forgets space bar hit, like
"that.net is..." and extension then thinks it's a link. But that is not that bad thing/error, or i don't know.

But i did have to turn that extension off, and i can't use it. My computer is slow 400MHz and after installing that extension my Firefox was even slower.
After page is loaded, Firefox did really Freeze and after 2sec or something it was ready and plain text links where clickable.
(GreaseMonkey was turned off when i did try that extension.)

Damn, i really need faster computer.

Hi,
Are we really that sure ? I wonder how this forum can exist without prior checking of the enlightened people on Capitol Hill . This 2257 crap is just another stone in our way of life ! and it needs to go !!!

As i´ve been reading in different places ... now even shops are supposed to shut down pictures of DVD and VHS covers. Hello ... Mcfly ... is somebody in there ?? What´s next ? Banning of all X Stuff ?

It get´s more and more crazy with this US of A [IMHO]. Not enough that every visitor has to leave his prints and picture at the border ... now this enhanced 2257 bullshit ... and hell ... i don´t even know what other obscurities the enlightened people on Capitol Hill came up with in the past just to make the average "zero_brain_joe" feel "save" in his "comunity"

Too bad i´m

Yep, I just went to Adult DVD Marketplace, where I do 95% of my porn shopping, and all of the images are blocekd due to content now.

I'm not sure how much I rely on boxcovers to purchase because I never really thought about it, but I do use them in a small way. If I've decided I like a cast, read a review or two, then I will look at the boxcover to see if any of the girls have their shoes off, are completely naked, what color so and so's hair was that day, etc . . . .

I can obviously manage without this help, but I shouldn't have to. Now with the SCOTUS deciding that local governements can take our property with even less cause, I don't feel like this is America anymore.

I know that sounds overly dramatic and histrionic, but I'm feeling despair.

Be aware that, if you have changed the default "view # posts per page" setting in your ADT profile, it will probably be necessary to change the "Only linkify pages: with number of plain text characters less than" value in order for this extention to work at ADT.

I have my ADT post setting at 50 and the links werent' being generated for this thread. I upped the "linkify" value and am now seeing them.
