| OtterPop New Member 5 Posts 7/03 | You can't see screen shots or box covers in TX!!!! To prevent underage persons from viewing screenshots, we have added additional safeguards. You were denied access because of the following reasons. I've never seen this much censorship on the net! I can go to any porn site, and look at explicite nudity if I want to. I am completely outraged by what you are doing! I don't need YOU telling me what I should and shouldn't see. You're not my parents. My local state and county can send me a letter if they don't want me to see nuitdy. I'd probably be 60 and limp before i'd see a letter. I'd like to know exacly what laws are prohibiting you. If the laws do exists, why isn't anyone else following it? You lost a good customer. I'm not even going to logon to you site anymore. Also, I'll be sending you support team a request to remove my account and personal information off of your servers. I suggest that anyone else who is blocked, do the same. Don't go to the web site, and send a request to remove your account. Their hit count will drop, and loose money from any 3rd party ads they may be hosting. And I'd like to see them process 1000's of removal requests. [Link] |

| OtterPop New Member 5 Posts 7/03 | The worse thing that will happen is the Exteme Associates will get a very hefty fine, and have to stop production on the specific titles litsted in the indictmant. ADE would no longer be able to replenish thier stock of the videos, and would no longer be able to sell them. |
| Bill All-Star Member 5334 Posts 6/00 | That having been said (or written), guess where ADE is located. That's right, in the Western District of Pennsylvania. They're just north of Pittsburgh (which is about as west on PA as you can get). Really, you should do some research. Russ Hampshire of VCA spent a year or two in prison in the 80's on an obscenity charge. They've already cut you off as a customer. They no longer ship to Texas. Why would they want to risk anything by allowing you to see content, if they aren't going to sell anything to you anyway? |
| OtterPop New Member 5 Posts 7/03 | Well I'm really just a little pissed because I really liked ADE. I can understand, it's not their fault. I guess they're trying to protect thier assetts. I hope that after the dust settles TX will be put back on the ship to list. I really liked the screen shots and covers. They did a good job at making them. Well I think that ADE should have sent an automated e-mail to customers letting them know about the situaton. Instead of being abupty denied. Like, hey were sorry but the man is on our ass. |

Empire employs a lot of people. These people in turn have families and children to support. Anyone with a conscience would (should) be taking the steps they are taking in order to mitigate any future potential problems. |
| J Alfred Prufrock Member 31 Posts 6/03 | For whatever reason, they most likely have some reason to fear legal action from Texas for shipping items there. They're not doing this to spite Texans because they think they're smelly or have cooties. They're doing this from a fear of being prosecuted. Maybe they're being overly cautious, I don't know, but they won't ship to eight other states, either, as well as certain cities. That's about twenty percent of their US customer base. Any anger directed at the retailer is directed at the wrong target. Edited by - J Alfred Prufrock on 8/10/2003 2:43:20 AM |
| JG1 New Member 2 Posts 8/03 | Can somebody enlighten me and explain why Texas was put on the list. I find it hard to believe that the community standards here are more restrictive than the majority of the US. If ADE has to exclude Texas, then I'd think it would have more company on the list than it has. Jeff |

| M.B. Senior Member 1679 Posts 2/01 | I have also noticed that when ADE gets critisized on this board, a moderator always comes to ADE's defense, always. Not surprising since they advertise on ADT and are in the price search. Since when did this site become like AVN? |
| Drew Black broken crankshaft 8009 Posts 9/99 | Just for one moment sit back and think for a second. Is it possible that there's much, much more to this whole situation than you've cared to think about? The people complaining about Adult DVD Empire "mistreating" them can't think for one second without taking themselves out of the equation. Ask yourself this: what would I do if I owned a company that is potentially facing a Federal obscenity prosecution? You are also mistaken, ADE gets bashed on quite a bit around here, sometimes even by the owners of this site. Before you start making such general accusations do a little more research. |
| Scooter Member MdR, California 46 Posts 9/02 | Drew, could you expand on this thought. How does the activity one state place one at more risk than another stater for prosecution by the Federal Government?? True, Bush is from Texas, but none of the explanations here have revealed why Texas is such a risk and other states are okay. Are there not US Attorneys in every state of the union? Can't Mr. Ashcroft direct any US Attorney to act. What makes Texas so special??? Peace... Scooter |
| JG1 New Member 2 Posts 8/03 | Dallas Observer . According to the article, ADE, nor any other seller, has too mutch to worry about in Texas, or any other place for that matter. |

| Scooter Member MdR, California 46 Posts 9/02 | Okay, so the government has made it clear more indictments will follow. They have Federal prosecutors in every state of the union, meaning they can file suit in virtually any state they wish. So, how does excluding Texas and the others on the list insulate ADE from Federal prosecution?? I can see how it would limit state or local based prosecution, but it seems the only way to ensure Federal action is avoided is to exit the business completely. If the goal is to avoid unfriendly juries, I would recommend that list be reviewed quickly. Arizona, Michigan, Montana, and a lot more of Florida still pose a substantial risk. Bottom line, when you are dealing with the Federal government, you cannot be a little bit pregnant. It's a big country, they have virtually unlimited investigatory and prosecutory resources and can find conservative venues in every state. In my opinion, I cannot see how skipping Texas and a handful of other locations offers any protection whatsoever. Peace... Scooter |

Well being safe rather than sorry is nice and everything but they're losing a decent amount of business in not shipping to the biggest cities of the second largest state in the country (based on really stupid speculation on what our community standards are like). Luckily, I can order from other retailers and I will stick with them even if the shipping ban comes off. |
