I have acquired a couple of PUAKA DVDs (it's a German studio) which won't play properly on my Pioneer DV-530 (hardware modified to multi-region). The intro plays fine (until the main menu) with full sound and image, the extras also have sound and image, but the movie itself has no sound. A third PUAKA DVD I have plays perfectly on the same player, no problem.

When I play the "defective" discs in my Apple I-book laptop this time I get the soundtrack OK!!!

Those two DVDs are the only ones that caused problems on my Pioneer DV-530, I have probably viewed close to 700 DVDs on that machine...

What do you think is causing the problem?

Joey, in the past when I had problems with sound on Private discs someone suggested changing my sound setting to analog. It worked.

I had experienced the excact same problem once with a Metro DVD. The DVD played perfectly on my computer, but once I played it on my DVD player I had sound on the extras and the menus but not during the actual film. However after some investigating, it turned out to be a unique problem with my set up. The TV that my DVD player was hooked up to at the time was a tiny Sony Trinitron that only had one input for sound. So it seemed that on this disc the sound for the main feature was only on the one sound channel, while the sound for the extras and menus were on both sound channels. So basically what I am saying is that I had to switch the AV wires (red & white) that went into the back of my TV around.

I hope my answer is not to confusing, and I hope it helps.

The second scene in Shane's "Girl Nite Out" DVD, the scene with Phoenix Ray (sob!), is mostly silent. I got this DVD in a store, and I didn't take it back because it's too much of a hassle, and I also own the tape.

It's the part where Phoenix squirts, damnit! It's not the best scene on the video, but Phoenix is so beautiful that I would be happy to watch her peeling potatoes--if she were naked while doing it, of course.

Inspired idea: What if she did that, peeled a potato, and carved out a potato penis? Has this been done?

Maybe not such an inspired idea, huh?

One other thing to check is your audio cables. For some unknown reason, some manufacturers put music in one channel and vocals in the other channel. When there is no music, all of the audio comes out of one channel.

When I had a problem with audio on a Red Light District DVD, it turned out that the disc was mastered this way and the right cable was loose in the back of my DVD player.

Thank you all for your help

Turned out it was indeed a cable that was slightly loose. Now I can listen to the gorgeous soundtrack of my PUAKA DVDs
