How is it that some of the brightest stars in adult films avoid working together? I'm specifically talking about female stars who are not tied to a single company via contract. More specifically, I refer to established stars with careers lasting more than a a few years who never get to work with other established, non-contract girls.
As to examples, I'll talk about some of my favorite stars. Kimberly Kane has never done a scene with Sunny Lane, Tori Black, Gianna, Amy Ried, or Faye Reagan. Now, Faye just worked with Gianna in "the Office" parody, but hasn't worked with Jenna Haze, Kimberly, Sunny, Sasha Grey, or Sammie Rhodes. Now, Sammie only works with women at this point but has never met up with Bree Olsen (even before her A&E contract), Gianna, Amy Ried, Faith Leon, Naomi (before her retirement), or Rebecca Linares.
These are all big name stars who are (for the most part) not contracted to work for one company. So how is it that these stars never wind up working together? Most of the women in the paragraph above have hundreds of titles each (except for Faye and Tori who are closer to 100). It can't be as simple as nobody ever thought to pair Kimberly Kane and Sunny Lane together, can it? Who wouldn't want to see Amy Ried going downtown on Sunny Lane or Tori Black and Faye Reagan tag teaming Sammie Rhodes?
Do these people run in different circles or what? I'd rather see {Tori with Kimberly} than {Tori and Vianey Cruz & Victoria Vonn}. Am I alone here?
On a positive note, Elegant Angel has been doing a fantastic job of dream pairings. Just today, I watched their near flawless "Pornstar Workout" which managed to pair Tori Black/Jenna Haze, Sunny Lane/Kristina Rose/Ava Rose, and Alexis Texas/Avy Scott among others! Well done!

I'm pretty sure the large majority of scenes are b/g one-on-ones.
To make a single scene with two top-tier performers working together would naturally I'd expect, cost twice as much as it would do normally. I'm guessing something like Zero Tolerance's 'Double Decker Sandwich' series is expensive to film (5-6 scenes, each with 2 top performers + 1 male talent per scene).
Also there's a potentially VAST combination of women who could possibly work together. Everyone can't work with everyone...

Dubious_Leftovers,
I've thought of all of these reasons and with respect, they bug the hell out of me (Dubious_Leftovers - no disrespect towards you is intended, but rather towards whoever actually uses these reasons as excuses for not shooting these women together). Let me take them one at a time.
1) Whereas there are many 1-on-1 b/g scenes, there are plenty of 2-on-1 b/g/g and 1-on-1 g/g scenes, titles and vehicles out there. Every time I see Marie Luv paired with Justine Joli, for instance, there is something that is done right.
2) While it might cost more to have two top tiered performers, I have to tell you that I tend to buy the DVD's that have just that - top tiered performers working together. As and example, I've purchased Pirates 2, Cheerleaders, Nurses, Bitchcraft, Pornstars Workout, whatever Belladonna puts out and other titles where like that whereas I'll tend to rent other titles that feature 5-6 scenes that are b/g 1-on-1 to see if it is worth an eventual purchase. Bottom line, if I see the company is putting it's best face forward, I'm more likely to spend my money on it.
3) I'm aware that there is a vast combination of performers however, I would love to see some of them shake it up and work with new companies. I have to think, if I'm a performer, wouldn't I want to work with the very best people out there? It only makes my work more desirable, right? There are performers out there already doing this. Bottom line, I wish I could magically produce a DVD featuring my favorite performers together.

Top-tier performers have a lot of influence over who they work with. Beyond having a no-list of people that they will not work with, they can suggest other performers that they would like to work with by name, and directors will make an effort to book those other performers. Is it that surprising if girls will often want to do GG or GGB with girls that they already know off camera and/or have already worked with several time before?
I'm sure that there are times when a director had two girls in mind to pair together from the very beginning of the casting process, but I'm suggesting that there are other times where a director will cast one top star to be in a GG or GGB scene, and then lets that first girl make suggestions about who she would like to work with. She will likely suggest someone she is already familiar and comfortable with, rather than someone she barely knows or even has only heard of.
There may be cases where one star already knows she's not into another star, and will decline to do scenes with the other star. It doesn't necessarily have to be an ugly public feud between the two, it just takes one not being especially interested in having sex with the other.

@bigfoot: Yeah, I can get that.
It's just that the titles you mentioned (Pirates 2, Nurses, Pornstar Workout etc.) are in the very expensive production end of the market and given the current climate in porn and the worldwide economy, I don't think the companies can throw money about with the sort of regularity to accommodate all these different potential pairings. Also, have to remember, a lot of companies folded a few years back, what seems to be left is a few main websites (Brazzers, Bang Bros. etc.) and the very best DVD specific companies (Elegant, Evil, ZT, 3rd Degree, Anabolic and so forth).
I see what you mean about shaking it up a bit with different types of pairings, but there follows a trend of stars regularly paired with each other for whatever reason, be it: chemistry, same body types, even names (e.g. Julia Ann/Lisa Ann, Chayse Evans/Charley Chase etc...), any common theme. These decisions are made because it guarantees a certain amount of sales, and the casual viewer who may just buy a couple of DVDs just to get off, doesn't care how many times these people have worked together in other productions, they just want the best there is currently in their hands - hence the "safe" option.
There are other factors I'm sure... personal friendships, ongoing requests to work with trusted talent, the fact that the top talent is always in demand from all over, and general industry behind the scenes stuff that we're not privy to.
I think it's just the way it is right now - just going on the patterns I see from my front room in England, far away from "The Valley".
I don't really see much here as a problem, the productions you listed are amazing, and I think it can become easy to become spoilt by this sheer quality; porn is an addictive thing, it's easy to just want more and more. Im just happy these things were made to begin with... A few short years ago (something like, previous to 2001 or something close to it), there was no hardcore aloud in the UK, AT ALL... If I ever feel jaded, it helps me personally to remember that.

I certainly know what you mean bigfoot! I've pondered and sometimes griped about this for years. I suspect things like money, chemistry, likability, and quite frankly big egos get in the way sometimes. All big things though that can't be downplayed. Sometimes I suspect it doesn't happen because the producer or director simply didn't think of it or simply don't/can't see it. I remember seeing Katja Kassin & Flower Tucci together and thinking they'd probably done many scenes together. I was almost shocked to learn it was their first scene together; even though both had been in the business a while and had appeared in many similar films. I've since seen them again together, but that seemed a no-brainer on paper to me.

I think that the question assumes that the girls spend a lot of off hours watching porn & therefore are in a position to scope out the competition.
I do not think any of them watch anywhere near the amount of porn, if any, that the average ADT fan does. I would bet most of them find it boring.

Another point is that as a high volume consumer, I get a bit bored with the repeated pairings of the same performers seen in today's line-ups (out of respect for the hard working women of the adult industry, I won't mention names). As an example, I recall recently flipping through an older (2005-ish) Red Light District DVD. When I went to the Trailers section, there was an impressive two-pages of titles listed. However, as I started watching them, the same performers kept showing up in title after title. Mrs. Bigfoot and I got quite the chuckle out of guessing how many titles one of the performers (Scarlett something or other) would appear.
Ultimately, I guess the market will dictate what works and what doesn't. I just wish there were a way to get Sunny Lane and Kimberly Kane together in my bedroom, er, I mean together...in a scene...on DVD - you know, in the valley, far, FAR away from my bedroom (sorry, dear).

I know you mean female performers, but I've always found it odd that despite being at the same company and specializing in the same kind of rough sex, you never see Manuel and Belladonna together. Yeah, they did one or two scenes in the past, but that's it. The cruelest tease ever was their non-sex scene with Melissa Lauren in The Fashionistas

Its a shame that Monica Sweetheart never worked with Aurora Snow, Gauge or Shyla.
And its the same with Aurora and Gauge (besides som lesbian shoot and their appearance on a jules jordan video which is awesome!) and Aurora and Shyla (they worked with Everhard in a Anabolic video 2 on 1 that was really bad shoot not focuing very much on the girls at all, such a waste!)
Another great pairing that never happened was of course Teagan and Keri Sable they were superstars early in their career and a scene with them would probably have broken a couple of sales records this was before piracy became so common.

This is exactly what I am talking about. Teagan and Keri were hot newbies at the same time (2004) - both were natural, young (18/19) and just becoming what they would be known for.
The whole point of this thread is this - using 20/20 hindsight, we can look at the fact that the pairing of these two 19 year olds could have been epic. I'd like to own the rights to that scene! Why aren't more people using that same vision to pair up tomorrows legends today and build a shoot around them??

I think in this climate of one-and-done sex scenes, producers maybe prefer to spread out scenes then combine hot women in the same scene. So maybe they'd rather have Teagan and Keri in separate scenes to better sell the money. Two hot scenes maybe being better than one extremely hot scene. There are some producers who like to mix-it-up, the folks at Elegant Angel & Evil Angel. and surprisingly Vivid, being ones I can immediately think of. Unless it's some kind of star vehicle, you're usually not gonna see many great pairings.

I'd like to see more physical contrast in lesbian scenes. Maybe Flower Tucci with Madison Ivy or Alexis Texas with Lele Star. Mix it up a little.
