On staying with the old software: Great news. I like this system.
The alternating background colours make it much easier to browse.

The new green colour scheme looked really great (might you consider adapting it for this system?), but the forum got a bit too 'busy' looking with all those huge buttons, IMHO.

If you're still looking for something else, the forum for the Opera browser looks good, and doesn't have as much HTML overhead.

phpBB looks nice too and seems to be everywhere.
I vaguely recall something about lots of security holes though.
Did you rule it out because of that?

Kperv, I don't think phpBB will scale to a forum this size. Actually, I would not know of any off-the-shelf software that would easily be able to handle a board as big as this one.

I really haven't seen any other Forum packages out there that are any better that what ADT has now. Just my opinion.

phpBB's own forum does seem to have a lot of topics and posts and a fair few simultaneous users without feeling slow.

thanks for the info. you have handled the attack on the site last week very professionally. that new software looked too good to be true and obviously the new features brought the system to a halt.

now that I have windows xp and high speed installed after my problems last weekend, my system handles searches here and everywhere very quickly. when things ground to a halt yesterday, I was panic stricken thinking "the thief" was back out there and had control of my operating system. I was relieved to find out it was the new software at ADT.

it would be nice to have those new features, but it is nicer to have my system running fast and everything under control in my internet world.

I have dial-up, and when I checked out the forum a few times yesterday, it was so slow for me (basically stopped), that I thought it was more or less down for maintenance.

I like ADT just the way it is.

Are some new features nice? Sure but why mess with a good thing unless you have to.

• I was a "post whore" instead of a "member"
• I could actually read my signature in posts

• People couldn't give a location under their user name
• You couldn't review a thread after you started a reply, even if the thread was still only one page long

Drew, if there's still a danger you might switch should the speed improve, I hope you fix the problem with some posts having the tag and some not.
