My notes, in no particular order:

1. The Blonde to Brunette Craze Continues. Stefani Morgan, as a brunette, looks incredibly hot and like mainstream star, Jessica Biel. BTW, Nicole Sheridan who I though had retired, was at AEE as a brunette, too.

2. Monique Alexander is the most normal pornstar on earth. To bad she didn't win any awards. She would be a great spokeswoman for the industry. She also had the most attractive, normal looking date/boyfriend? of all the female talent. (see below)

3. Stars Most Missed, who I wanted to talk with: Teagan Presley & Janine.

4. Star I Made Sure I Missed/Avoided: Mary Carey

5. Awards I Most Agreed With: Naomi, Best New Starlet, Stormy, Best Contract Star, and "Island Fever 4" girl/girl scene.

6. Award I Totally Didn't Understand: Vivid getting a Gonzo Award.

7. Sign that the Industry is Still in Need of Major New Star to cross market and bring in new customers: Jenna Jameson (again) getting the Cross Over award. Meaning that after all these years she is still the Most Recognized Porn Star in the biz.

8. Corporate Strategy for 2006 that Backfired: Vivid going "harder" with more anals, condoms optional, rougher sex, and (upcoming) more IR. They won fewer awards as a result of these changes than in past years, when they focused on their core market.

9. Lacie Heart, signing for new company, Digital Playground, looks great IN CLOTHES. Maybe better than nude...um, this could be a problem.

10. Male Talent & Boyfriends of PornBabes: with the exception of Jean Valjean, these are the meanest looking collection of guys this side of a Hells Angels knife fight. I guess this is why Jenna Jameson dissed the male talent recently in the mainstream press. Then, again, she was with Tito Ortiz.

11. CES Note: This event was totally over-shadowed by MacWorld in San Francisco, and the announcement of the iPhone. Like other people I know, I went to MacWorld first then made the jump to Vegas.

As a person who watches what is termed gonzo almost exclusively, and who doesn't care a whit about Vivid, I don't have any problem with Chemistry grabbing that award. It was gonzo by its strictest interpretations, and it was good.
Maybe Vivid didn't grab a bunch of awards, which in past years they didn't really always deserve IMO, but that doesn't mean they aren't making money with their new strategy. Do you have any insider info that would shed some light on this? The bottom line is the bottom line.

Awards are as much about "bragging rights" as revenue. So, not winning effects the company image (and who signs/stays with them. Two words: Lacie Heart).

It must be clear from my post that I'm not a big fan of gonzo, and would like to see the old, couples Vivid back. When/if I want to see gonzo I will buy RLD, Zero Tolerance, or the Evil Empire. Gonzo is what they do best! I always advocate for a wide variety of types of porn...something for everyone.

Interesting notes, just to add my own few cents, I don't think IR in and of itself is "harder"; it is different than what vivid has done previously, but I haven't seen any evidence that it's inherently "couples unfriendly" (if that wasn't what you were thinking I still want to say this point just in general). Now do I think that IR is currently promoted, by many companies, in a way that's not "couple friendly"? Sometimes; titles like "black bros banging white hoes" probabaly won't attract that market, but I still think it can be done in a more sensitive and sexual way, nina hartley's scenes with sean michaels come to mind (i admit one way to help that is to probabaly change the name for the "blackmailed" titles.

why shouldn't Lacie look good nude? I don't see a problem here but maybe you'll explain further?

Read what I said again. What I'm saying is she may look BETTER in clothes than nude. Since she's a pornstar, and pornstars have to look great nude, that's not a good thing. Just my opinion. Most guys will still say Lacie looks better nude that dressed.

Must agree with you on point 6, Derek117.

Vivid and Gonzo, isn't that what they call an oxymoron?

When I think Gonzo, Vivid is the last company that comes to mind.

At the very least, AVN avoided the annual "these awards are bought" accusations it goes through every year. Vivid is one of the biggest advertisers in AVN, and they clearly didn't win a lot of trophies this year.

Good point. Especially after the allegations of sex-for-AVN Awards nominations that was starting to circulate on the gossip websites. Of course, this could also be seen as proving the allegations.

Did you happen to see Lorena Sanchez? HOT AS SHIT but hardly recognizable as a brunette. I didn't know who she was until I was literally right next to her reading her name tag. I like it, though. It's a good look.

Re: Vivid, we have podcasts pending with Steve Hirsch and Eon McKai, as well as more chat with Dana DeArmond.

As for Vivid and Gonzo, go check out Bryan Xin's "Colors," just out.

btw derek, did you see briana banks there this year? I remember you mentioning before that she may be transitioning out of the business, and if she didn't show up to represent vivid , that would just seem to further confirm that.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to avoid her. But I did have the pleasure of kicking her sorry ass out of my booth as she was attempting to tell me that she's a bigger star than Belladonna. Bigger freak show, I'll give her.

Nope. I didn't see Briana. Unless she's now a brunette and I didn't recognize her. If she's out of the biz, I wish her much luck & success in her personal life.

Now I'm disappointed. As much time that I spent at or near the Evil Angel booth and I missed that . It's too bad that nobody was shooting video at that time. You could put that footage into the BTS of the biggest piece of crap ever made and still have a best seller.
