While I really like what you're doing in releasing quality DVD transfers of "Golden Age" porn films, accompanied by worthwhile commentary tracks, will you PLEASE cease and desist adding those so-called "Multiple Angles" to these films!!! Anyone who has checked these "Multiple Angles" out will readily see that they are merely the same shots, blown up a bit and reversed left-to-right! Since these films are from the 70s and 80s, common sense suggests that you're lucky to be able to come up with halfway-decent prints or transfers of the films themselves, much less any additional "coverage" or out-takes to be used as "Multiple Angle" footage. Most, if not all, of these titles were shot on film, using single-camera techniques. Double-camera coverage was relatively rare, and even if it took place, the footage that did not make it to the final cut is by now long gone. You may say, "You don't like them? Don't watch them!" The problem, for one thing, is that they are accompanied by your "burned in" Angle Icons! I can turn my player's angle icon off, but I still have to contend with your "blue bug" in the lower right of the frame, which sometimes masks important action. Further, these bogus "Multiple Angles" take up unnecessary real estate on the disc and cost additional authoring/programming time, which might be better used for, say, increased bit rates, extra trailers for some of your other classic titles, etc. As I said, I really like what you're doing, and your image quality seems to be quite good, given the quality of the original materials. But those bogus "Multiple Angles" do more harm than good. If they were intended as a marketing plus, they're backfiring on you -- not only are they not true "Multiple Angles," they also intrude upon and degrade what is otherwise a good product.  [Link] |

A lot of the stuff I love is from Wicked Pictures, and they don't use the multiple angles. They're one of the best studios out there too. So it's definitely not needed to make a great DVD.  [Link] |

However, they definitely need to make people aware of this or it could cost them repeat sales from disgruntled customers. If anyone from VCA, Private, Vivid etc are reading this I'll spell it out for them one more time. I WILL NOT buy any DVD which features unremovable icons on the picture. Have these studios got the message yet? If not, try a forum search on 'multiple angles' to read past comments on the subject. I think I remember your having posted the same tip some time ago -- must have either missed it or tried it on some VCA or Vivid titles and it didn't work. Well, you're right, at least it is potentially removable -- a step in the right direction! But it doesn't excuse the fact that the "Multiple Angles" really aren't! I hope there was no misunderstanding and I've now reworded my post to make sure. On a completely different subject, I was checking the adult LaserDisc auctions on Ebay this week and amazingly an old Video-X-Pix copy of Misty Beethoven went for $55. Can you believe it? Why anyone would pay such a high price for guaranteed laser-rot when the same version is available on DVD remains a mystery. The buyer obviously didn't read your recent post to RAME stating that the DVD is uncut. [Link] |
