Just wanted to bring this to the forefront as it will be coming up soon.

2001, the odyssey that is our community’s fight for equal rights continues…

New York City has held a Pride March since 1970, the year after Stonewall. We’ve marched up 6th Avenue (in fact, only HALF of Sixth Avenue) without a permit and with an enormous police escort (and who were they protecting us from anyway?). We’ve marched all the way to Central Park from the Village; we’ve started at Columbus Circle and walked past the grand hotels and the amazed tourists (now THAT was a long March route!). Once there were no floats, now there are floats in abundance. Once there were only a few dozen groups from New York City, now groups and businesses from all over the Northeast join us. Some even compete for the coveted Best Out-of-City float award.
