I noticed this movie has come out on dvd through VCX.

I'm a big fan of Vanessa Del Rio and I'm also looking for movies with Susan Mcbain. Has anyone bought this disc and if so, has it been censored and how's the picture quality?

If anyone is a fan of Susan Mcbain, could they recommend to me her best movies? I have two movies of hers, "Barbara Broadcast" and "Heatwave", both on VHS. I'd like to get her hottest scenes.

I havn't seen it, but be careful with VCX titles. It looks like everything they are releasing on DVD now is DVD-R. They never used to do it that way, their discs used to be factory pressed.
Video-X-Pix (a new company?) has been releasing classics lately as well, but they are factory pressed discs.
The VCX discs are DVD-R's, they suck. You can tell because on the disc side that the machine reads it's purple, not silver like the factory pressed discs. They also have a cheap sticker applied to the discs for the art instead of a paint application like all the other studios do.
Try and rent this title somewhere first and look at the colour of the disc, if it purple it's a DVD-R.

I wonder why they would use dvd-r's, that's such a cheap way to go. They must be burning copies from VHS tapes instead of some type of masters. That's too bad as they have some interesting titles that aren't easy to find. I guess there aren't any bonus materials to speak of on their discs either. I haven't seen any of their discs for rent in any of my local video stores, not many seem to carry older titles.

I'm pretty sure my local store has Odyssey on dvd. If it does I'll let you know if it's a DVD-R. I dig Vanessa as well. I love watching her give a blowjob with those big lips, she's awesome.

I bought this disk a couple of weeks ago and, judging by M.B's comments, it is a DVD-R. How cheap can one company be? And why do I do keep giving them my money? It's very sad because they have an excellent catalogue . . . but seemingly no respect for it (or their customers).

Anyway, I was quite excited to see this one on disk because I've never seen the movie. I haven't actually got around to watching it yet but I have just flicked though a couple of chapters. The picture is . . . well, I've seen worse. It looks a bit washed out and seriously lacks contrast but it's watchable. I certainly think it looks better than their awful presentation of Mary! Mary! (another DVD-R). Its full-screen without any extras . . . as if that much wasn't obvious!

As for Video-X-Pix, I've got four of their disks and they're a mixed bag. Maraschino Cherry , which has been covered in some depth on this and other boards, is mis-framed and transferred from a very scratched print. At this stage of the game I'm pretty well adjusted to shoddy presentation of classic movies but I was shocked by the first couple of minutes of this one. I haven't watched Bel Ami yet but, from memory and a quick glance, it looks pretty poor (soft with over saturated colours). On the other hand Jack & Jill and Roommates look pretty good. There is a bit of a problem with the transfer at the beginning of Jack & Jill but the source material is in excellent condition.

I hope this helps!

I'm curious to know if any of the content is missing, it's bad enough that the picture quality may be lacklustre but I hate it when a movie is cut to shreds.

I have seen Odyssey: The Ultimate Trip a long time ago. I saw a VHS version released in The Netherlands by Arpa. The version I saw, was 78 minutes long. Maybe that running time might be helpful to check if there is anything cut.

Was at the video store today and the guy that works there confirmed to me it's a DVD-R, he showed me the purple colour of the disc. I believe that ALL of VCX titles are now DVD-R's. I'm glad I got a couple of their earlier releases when they were still making factory pressed discs, A Tribute To The King #1 comes to mind.
I did rent Dr. Lust (VCA) another Vanessa movie, but she's not in enough of the scenes.
I wish VCA would release some of the compilations they put out through the WET label in the 80's and 90's like Best Of Vanessa Del Rio, Best Of Ginger Lynn, Best Of Amber Lynn, Best Of Christy Canyon, Best Of Erica Boyer. Most of these had multiple volumes, I think they were only 60 minutes per volume. But I'd still rather have those than 7 Vanessa Del Rio VCA movies that I don't want because she's only in one or two scenes. I won't buy any of those, but I would buy the Best Of comps.
Play Me Again Vanessa (VCA) has her in almost all or every scene, but the story is so stupid and bad it ruined the movie for me and I ended up not buying it.
If someone at VCA is reading this: PLEASE RELEASE SOME STAR BASED COMPS ON DVD OF THE GIRLS FROM THE 80's.

I too would like to see some comps of some of the top stars. It gets pretty expensive to buy title after title in order to assemble a collection of scenes from ones favorite starlets.

Has anyone purchased any of the comps from "Alpha Blue Archives". I see they have some comps of Sue Nero, Anna Ventura, Candy Samples, Little Oral Annie etc. Or how about "Swedish Erotica", didn't they do some comps of some of the 70's stars like Seka, Vanessa Del Rio & John Holmes, all who appeared in their many loops. Has anyone picked up any "Swedish Erotica" discs?

Walter, thanks for the info on the running time, now if I can only find some sort of review of the VCX disc to compare the running times.

Thanks, for the threads Yoga Girl.

It's a pity Caballero had to mix scenes from different eras onto each disc. I would prefer a chronological order for each disc.

All of VCX's discs are DVD-R's now. They switched over around the mid of last year. All their earlier titles are on pressed discs. The sad thing is their prints appeared to get slightly better when they went to DVD-R's. They also appear to have fixed their bit rate problems. The biggest issue I have found are random cuts and some of the prints are very light.

Burboy, I've just put this in to check the running time but there's no time-stamp on the disk! If I do get around to watching it in the near future I'll try to make a note of its exact duration.

The colours really are quite weak but, if this does turn out to be uncut, it's probably worth picking up. The picture certainly seems more stable than on some of their earlier releases. I haven't seen any sign of artifacting either although, as I've said, I've just skipped through the disk to have a look at the quality. The sound is quite good.

Burboy,

I've seen some of the Alpha Blue comps. I have the Little Oral Annie one and it's okay, but some of the scenes have bad picture quality, looks the the vhs tape they used for some of the scenes wasn't in the greastest shape. If you can find it cheap it's worth picking up, but not at $20. They just released a Christy Canyon comp of her early stuff (at least that's what their web site says) but I havn't seen it offered in any online store or even for rent at any of the local stores. They released a Seka one as well, but it sucks bad. If you see them mention loops on the back cover avoid it, all the scenes have music audio only, there is no dialogue in the old loops, they suck.

Thanks for the info, I'd like to get the Sue Nero comp as I have virtually nothing of hers. I'll be real dissapointed if her scenes lack dialogue, I hate music only scenes. There was one scene I saw of hers years ago I'd like to get, it was from a movie called "Mandy's Executive Sweet" but I can't find that movie anywhere. The movie was one of those early shot on video, circa '83, she had a hot scene with Steven Douglas. The only other thing I remember was that Lee Carrol was the star and Ron Jeremy was in it. Does anyone know if this movie is still in circulation?

If you have a DVD-ROM drive for your computer and PowerDVD, if you load the disc in PowerDVD and skip through the chapters to the last one, then fast forward to the end of the film you'll get the run time. The VCX DVD-R's with no time stamps do register the time into the film on PowerDVD for some reason.

I just watched this one and the running time was approximately 75 minutes. I didn't see any obvious signs of censorship although the IAFD suggests the duration should be 86 minutes.

The picture quality is actually worse than I'd initially thought. There is a severe lack of detail which is exacerbated by large portions of the film being low lit. The sound, on the other hand, is very good.

As for the movie, I really enjoyed it - particularly the final third. I'll have to watch it again before I can go into any great detail because I received a couple of calls during the film . . . and couldn't stop the disk if I was to determine its duration!

Anyway, I'd certainly recommend this to any fan of the classics or Suzanne Mcbaine. The soundtrack is gorgeous and the movie itself is positively esoteric. It's such a shame these films are only available in such p*ss-poor editions.
