This really isn't an ad for anything, more of a solicitation of your opinions...I don't care if ya tell me I'm on crack...just tell me WHY you think I'm on crack.
I have a new site up www.jizzher.com The idea behind this site is that I am offering fully DVD compliant full quality DVD encoded scenes for download to your hard drive and subsequent burning to DVD or VHS.
These arent WMV files and they arent DRM protected. They are full quality (72 hex 480, 29.97 fps VBR 4000kbit/sec avg)
The idea is that you can download the ones you want and burn your own DVD with no re-encoding. I have tested it with DVD Architect and Sonic DVDit and it works great...it takes a couple of minutes to decouple the audio but thats it...
The downside is that the files are HUGE 200MB to 500MB and they require a high speed connection...on a fast cable connection the download in 8-15 mins DSL light can take hours and dialup isnt feasable.
The upside is that you get real DVD quality right off the net....same quality as if you had bought it at a store.
Here's the big question....Is this something you guys would use?
TIA

fatal error !!! "Uniform Resource Locator´s" without TopLevel do not exit !!!
Every domain name has a suffix that indicates which top level domain (TLD) it belongs to. There are only a limited number of such domains. For example:
gov - Government agencies edu - Educational institutions org - Organizations (nonprofit) mil - Military com - commercial business net - Network organizations ca - Canada th - Thailand
The only really secure computer is one without a network - [STEMCELL]
Possibly. I've never joined any pay sites in the past and I doubt I ever will.
If individual scenes were available for one off purchase I might well decide to buy some. Provided of course that the scenes would interest me in the first place. Which doesn't seem likely, judging by the pictures on your little one page tour. Sorry.
If I ever do buy any porn this way I would only consider it if the video was full DVD-ready MPEG-2's that wouldn't require any conversion or re-compression before transferring onto DVD-R. The slightest hint of DRM will turn me away. In that regard you're on the right track to attract my interest.
Watermarks would probably have to go though. I realise you're worried about piracy but I hate them. I've only ever accepted them on Pixie's DVDs. I've boycotted all other watermarked DVDs.
Another thing is the brand Jizzher.com. I'm reluctant to give my credit card info to any unknown internet startup. Tricia asked a similar question in an old thread, and Evil Angel is probably one of only two porn distributors I'd be willing to buy porn scenes from with my CC online. Wicked being the other.
I know you've been in the business a long time, but what percentage of your potential customers will know that? Evil Angel is a more easily recognised brand because of their prominent box covers. And because of their DVD sales they've also got an almost bricks'n'mortar feel to them. As opposed to an internet only vendor.
Anyway that particular point may well be moot, as all those internet porn sites apparently generate quite a lot of revenue. I never could understand how, so in that regard you can most likely disregard my (possibly somewhat paranoid) concerns about CC safety.
And providing DVD ready MPEG-2 files is certainly a good thing in my book. MMS streaming. Yuck.

Oh I dont argue that they are better recognized and theres lots of people who know how long I have been around...my participation on the web predates adultdvdtalk by ten years even.
and truth is most adultwebsites dont make money....making money on the net these days requires shrewd and innovative marketing as well as a good product. The consumer is far more educated than they were in the mid 90s when the dot coms...specially adult were goldmines.
I have found that surfers tend to trust certain billing companies like CCBill and IBill because they have become recognizeable and because they know that they have fair dispute resolution. Thats why I havent gotten my own merchant account, opting instead to pay a higher percentage to let CCBill wash the credit card orders.
I appreciate your comments because I know that you are not alone, others share your views on all this.
In general I would absolutely consider subscribing to such a website. As long as I like the content and it's using a trustfull payment company, I would do become a member. And my DSL should also be fast enough in downstream for this.
The only thing which I never liked about VOD or PPV or whatever its named, is the fact that you could only watch it for a short amount of time.
For whatever its worth, hospitals (even non-teaching ones or those not associated with a university or college) often use this suffix also.

this isnt VOD or PPV. You download it and you own it, you can watch it as much as you want. Whenever you want, wherever you want. My intention is for you to burn it to DVD and have a DVD with the same quality you get in any storebought DVD.
i) I´d say only a minority of users are able and willing to work through rather sophisticated stuff like DVD authoring software - when it´s getting to this level a lot of users are simply dummies! Fortunately today there might be another solution. Up-to-date DVD players support directly stored videofiles on any DVD media. e.g. Allinternal has by far the highest quality with their downloadable files. I only need to create and burn them on a normal DATA DVD. My DVD player recognizes this type and simply runs the videofiles as it were a Video-DVD! ii) here´s a very good bandwidth calculator you might want to look at

This is the point I am having the hardest time explaining. and probably where I need the most help.
You dont have to learn to use it. the authoring software that comes with DVD recorders these days is very simple...drag and drop...provided you dont have to re-encode the video...and thats what Im offering, video that doesnt have to be re-encoded.
This has been a good post for me because its helping understand where people are not understanding what it is I am offering.
You're simply looking at this as a new way to deliver media to buyers right?
With out security and license management the plan you have will get you scammed by the file sharing crowd. One person would buy it, make unlimited copies and share it with the world either online or on the black market.
It would be a great idea for all media if you could get the logistics and software worked out to satisfy Hollywood.

yep it a new way to deliver the product directly to the consumer.
File sharing and piracy have always eroded the profits of the adult industry and hollywood as well.
Since these are straight up DVD MPEG-2 formats there is no way to protect them from illegal copying and all.
I have little doubt that they will end up on emule or wherever but they will be there anyway...and with file sizes approaching half a gigabyte for some scenes the throughput you would get from a file sharing network might make it undesireable as a means of transmission.
Sure some people are going to steal it, but people stole bang bus content too....and Jules Jordans....you stop it when you can but theres still enough to make money and deliver a good product at a fair price.
Well, can ya throw us a bone? why not give us trial access to download a sample that we can burn to dvd? would be interesting to check it out. And folks, it is so easy to burn to a dvd. anyone who can download from his site can burn it.

theres gonna be a test download coming....right now the whole site is still in a beta test mode...changes are constantly being made.
I posted here to get exactly what Im getting....good feedback on what needs to improve to make people understand what I have
assumed you´re using the program wizard and being asked let´s say "Do you want to create a title/subtitle menu?" User: What the hack is this !
I still guess it´s only something for the techies, not for the ordinary porn buyer who is an average pc user, only knowing about his pc being a gadget or better black box enabling him or her browsing the internet
Perhaps I've missed it, but how much are we talking about per download? Do you plan on charging a membership fee as well?
I am TOTALLY interested in video quality... so downloading inferior bootlegged copies off the Internet doesn't interest me in the least. Furthermore, in today's day and age, there's no F'ing way I'm going to have my computer(s) compromised by file-sharing software!
The files Mike has described are no harder to watch than right-clicking on the file, selecting "Open With" and choosing the media playing application you wish to view it with. AT THE VERY LEAST, you can choose to view it with Windows Media Player... however, most people serious about watching video on their computer more than likely have installed additional software (PowerDVD is my preferred viewer). PowerDVD can open most video files directly including .VOB (as you would find on an actual DVD) and .MPG (the normal default for MPEG-2 video). There is no need to burn a DVD at all to watch the video files Mike has described :) PowerDVD will even allow you to save playlists of your favorite video files just as people already do with audio files.
As far as the theft thing goes, I can already go out and rent any porn video I want and rip any content directly from the DVD at 100% quality and package individual scenes as individual files anytime I want. And this is using popular legal consumer software that sells for less than $100 everywhere! In my case, I'm typically making my own stroke compilations from DVDs I already own (which, FYI, are in the hundreds).
My point is that anyone who's goal is to rip content already knows how to do it. And, can not be stopped by anything the original owner does to prevent theft! Mike's point about the massive file sizes being a deterent is the bottom line. Casual consumers will not bother with the time, effort, equipment and, yes, cost necessary to rip 500-MB+ files. File stealing/File sharing scum will, selfishly, think twice about tying up their computers, hard drives and bandwidth just to provide other freeloaders with 500-MB files. Those that are in the business of ripping other people's digital content for personal gain can't be stopped and aren't even going to pay to download a single file from Mike anyway.
As Apple has proved with iTunes, there is a HUGE market providing legal reasonably-priced digital content online that people ARE willing to pay for IF GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY!
With most porn DVDs available online for $15-$20 as it stands, with 5-6 scenes per DVD, I'd certainly be willing to pay $3/per scene for content that interested me. You might even consider a "buy 5 get one free" pre-pay option.
I know that I would LOVE to be able to download individual scenes to add to a new stroke compilation as needed. Also, I would think there could potentially be a spectacular demand for scenes from the "Golden Era" and "VHS Era" that are no longer available... and that's something to consider!

To answer you its a monthly membership with no additional charges for downloading.
My goal is to keep files in rotation while adding a brand new scene every week.
brand new means exactly that not from my old scenes and I will keep 20 or 30 scenes available at any given time while adding a new scene and an older one every week.
they wont be collectively added in that you cant wait for five months and download all the previous monthly updates but they will be rotated so that you get weekly new scenes as well as my library of old ones moved in and out over time.
does that make sense
BTW I have decided to make it an adjunct to mikesouth.com as well so if you join it you get the entire mikesouth.com site as well. Thats a limited time offer prolly but may be permanent
Those are our questions also. We'd probably try it at least to see if we liked the idea or not. Plus Mike's right below us here in SC (GA, is that right Mike?) so we have to support our southern porners, there are so few (FL doesn't count!)and Mrs. Gonzophile loves them GA peaches, so if they are true Amateur GA girls she will insist that we try!

yup Im in GA and most of the girls are indeed homegrown Georgia Peaches LOL
we thank you for your support
if you do try it out be sure to let me know what you think...how to improve it etc....Im adding content as fast as I can right now both old and new but this is a massively time consuming process...which is my point...I can do it once so yall dont have to wait for a re-encode
the only way to prevent content theft after it has been downloaded is to: 1) make the download file's format proprietary. you can only view it through it's own viewer. (we're long overdue for a .xxx file format) 2) provide burner software that can decode and burn the proprietary formats 3) restrict viewing and burning using licence management. (limit the number of times you can burn, limit copies you can burn, licence can expire, etc)
cost of such a system... way too much to be of worth. And once the file is burned to a DVD you're back to being able to rip off the disc using the afore mentioned software.
sadly there is no way to adequately secure digital content
Other concerns -preview videos and/or pictures? -can you resume downloads? -corrupt downloads? (any way to verify the download?)
You would lose me immediately. I'm just not interested in monthly membership sites. Offer individual downloads, as per the Apple iTunes model, and I'm very interested. And, assuming you take my individual download advice, keep all files available for download forever.

originally I looked at a pay per download model but the problem is there is no appropriate billing solution for this.
developing my own is way too costly and the initial responses prefered the one price gets all model.
I would certainly add per scene paying if theres an appropriate method for billing and delivery
Including
1. download verification 2. verification that the user has a fast enough connection to do it 3. resumes of failed downloads.
The biggest problem with this is that you have to protect against chargebacks by doing the above and and as I pointed out before resuming failed downloads is not something winders readily supports
Mike, you're just wrong about this. The Apple iTunes model is exactly what you want to replicate! It has been incredibly successful. All we're talking about is selling video scenes instead of individual audio songs. And, since you're not going to waste your time trying to make the files "theft proof," it will all the more simple to execute.
What will make your idea work or not is the individual download concept... NOBODY, IMHO, wants another membership site.

Like I said I will do it it on a pay per download basis when it becomes possible to do the billing that way...I havent been able to find a single billing solution for that model.

What about using existing, pretty widely-understood technologies like .rar archives and .par file checking/correction? I think trying to download a 400 or 500 MB file in one continuous go is for the birds.

rar and par are out of the question because 1. they can actually add to the filesize in the long run 2. I want to Keep It Simple
if you are on dialup this isnt for you anyway
If you are on a fast cable connection you are looking at a 15 minute download for 500MB, thats actually faster than real time.
I think ALScan is doing a similar thing already. Scenes or entire DVDs can be downloaded as high quality .M2P (MPEG2) files, 5.0 MB/sec compression rate. They claim that the files can be directly burned to DVD using a program like Sonic MyDVD. Is this the same type of thing you are talking about?
Anyway, they have a little variation of the pay per download plan. You can buy "tokens" (eg. 1000 for $10) and each scene (or entire DVD) is priced at a certain number of tokens (depending on length, or if you want to download as a lesser quality .WMV file instead). Would this type of system be easier for you compared to a straight fee for each download?
A membership kind of thing is definitely out for me, but a similar type of payment system as above, or a pay per download system is something I would be interested in, especially for DVD quality files.
