Some said that we could use their existing trailers but that's it. So if anyone is doing it - they're probably not doing it with the legal permission of the studios. | Saki At-Large 2087 Posts 11/99 | Posted - Jan 5 2000 : 3:16PM In general, it's legal to put hardcore sex and nudity on-line; most sites that do have some sort of statment that you have to agree to (namely that it's legal for you to view the content where you live and that you're of legal age to do so). Some go even further and require age verification (usually in the form of a credit card, since it's pretty rare for a minor to have one). Saki P.S. From a studio perspective, I believe that Excalibur uses the standard studio preview trailers (i.e. the same ones that are bonus material on DVDs). | Drew Black broken crankshaft 8009 Posts 9/99 | Posted - Jan 5 2000 : 3:29PM Most of the better studios (i.e. the ones with money and lawyers) try to protect their assets to ensure that they are not abused for the profit of another. I guess a better question is "have these places obtained written permission or a license to broadcast/distribute the intellectual property of the studios online?" A few of the studios have very specific plans for approaching the web to increase their market share. Many of the studios don't have a clue and don't even know how to use email. Somewhere in between there are a few that might see some benefit to allowing their customers to "stream" teasers and previews of their titles in order to sell disks. I don't think any studiose except for Vivid or Digital Playground have enough of a clue about the internet to be able to develop and promote a video-on-demand business model. This is obviously the direction technology is going and will quickly be adopted by adult studios then the market conditions are right. In the mean time DVD is becomming a very successful product line for most of them. [Link] |
