Here is one big reason OF is complete crap: there is no accountability or repercussions for OF creators that dont make good on customs. For example, I ordered a custom video from Phoenix Marie. Started with a discussion about the request, "she" agreed, and then I paid. Over a month later nothing has been delivered - just met with responses like "just wait, it's coming", "bare with me as I work through my list", etc. etc. Nothing confirming a date or a ballpark timeframe - just BS. "She" was all too happy to take the money, but clearly made the decision to neglect her end of the transaction. Luckily OF refunded me my money, but OF doesnt hold these creators to honor the agreements they make. I will NEVER spend another penny on that site.
There's just no distinction made between interacting with an agency, bot, or the person themselves. Advertised as "my page" but run by an agency. Holds little interest here. Sometimes the prompts show through with a "Hi {Name}" when it should be filled in.
People can handle their business how they see fit. But in those cases, it just becomes another website selling content. Less personal overall than when OF initially started. Becomes a Passive Income stream where less effort is needed. I think the newness of OF wore off of stars and content creators. Others may make enough passively to not need to be on regularly.

Now they are asking for facial ID "reverification" although i Iknow for sure I never did a face ID with them. And it redirects to a third party authorizer.... Yea I think it's the final nail in the coffin. Luckily I got everything I needed from there already.

The most recent title of Holly Randall's Unfiltered podcast with Stella Barey says that the future of adult entertainment is creator owned and with that in mind, the studios should start studying OF for answers as to why it is so many potential pornstars are 'retiring' to go that route. One I know for a fact got tired of being the eternal MILF always put with a younger female performer, others I suspect want to either have more bi scenes with sex between two men who are not straight being involved while others according to a snippet of an interview I heard; get tired of male talent either deliberately hurting them during scenes or simply not paying attention to the feedback from the female talent. More than one female performer on here has stated that male talent didn't do much to prep them for anal and just went for shoving it right in. I don't think OF is endangering studio porn outright but the rising number of people quitting shooting scenes after a few years in favor of just OF work should be a warning sign that the potential veteran talent pool is shrinking rapidly.

The biggest threat to porn from studio scenes to OF is PIRACY, that's a far bigger threat to the studios than OF because you can steal scenes everywhere. OF scenes behind paywalls have shown up on streaming sites all over the place; there's no way to stop it. Remember Napster and how they tried making an example out of a group of offenders? Now everyone just accepts that illegal downloads happen everyday. Not even the studios are in a position to tackle pirated porn; you'd need a budget that makes the US federal deficit look small by comparison. What I feel the studios should be taking notes on are all the reasons and all the things that make OF increasingly safer and more attractive than studio porn.
Consider the commenter above talking about no accountability and repercussionsr regarding OF. That same argument applies across the board for literally EVERY single porn studio. Nobody seems to get actually blacklisted for bad behavior in the industry to the point where they can't re-enter it. From male talent shoving themselves into female talent's ass with zero lube and any warmup to the one hitting a well known performer's cervix to the director who was accused of bad conduct but remains in business with his own studio, nothing short of a violent assault or murder is enough to get you banned here. That and a sense of being pidgeon holed or not being able to push scenes that are seen as less marketable are two of the major factors that drive people to OF. ^I completely agree with everything he said. I think OF is what it is for two reasons. The first is piracy created a situation in which less jobs were available to performers because the studios that once hired them died and the second reason is that Covid-19 made it impossible for porn performers to earn a living for a very long time.
The only cost-effective mitigation of the effects of piracy (not piracy itself) is a very solid triangulation of price, convenience, and brand loyalty.
Delivering the content to the buyer immediately and easily at high quality is the first step. A main reason honest purchasers buy the porn is that they won't have to wait for someone to upload a shitty non-4k version. And obviously, the price must be set so its not expensive enough to offset the immediacy benefit. That's the harder part, of course.
The hardest part, what the individual performers are leaning on with platforms like OF, is brand loyalty. They garner people who don't want just any pornstar, they want that individual star in particular, for whatever reason (usually convincing her buyers that she has some sort of connection to them, parasocial dumb shit, basically). Companies have and can still gin up brand loyalty by being consistent and making users feel like part of a club. The biggest female/female porn site, the one that still puts out a plurality of content compared to others, has intense brand loyalty. I can't stand the shit because they absolutely ruined GG and created a lame and massive base audience of the genre, but that audience fucking loves that website and loves the company's style. It's not as popular as it was before, when the site had forums and people could post their incest wish scenarios and the site would make videos based on those wishes, but there is still notable loyalty, relative to any other site's audience.
Companies today need to build a loyal base that identifies with the company and product. That's how they can create an ongoing revenue that persists in spite of the videos being uploaded for free elsewhere simply because the buyers want to support the business that makes the product. I was staying subscribed to a site consistently, month to month paying the highest price instead of reducing overall per month cost by subscribing multiple months at a time because I liked the vibe of the site, wanted to show support. Well, the vibe of the site shifted, the site owner's creeperness showed more and more, and I stopped liking the brand. I'll still sign up every few months, probably, because while the content has fallen in quality, there is still a good video now and then. But as far as sticking around consistently subscribed, that's out mainly because I don't fuck with the brand and the brand owner's mindset anymore, moreso than content quality.
I think sites should strategize to identify an audience that it can consistently show that it gets that audience's taste and mindset. Producers will have to develop almost a defined viewpoint in these times of very stratified and curated media.
That's what the porn ladies are doing these days, building bases that like her specific individual vibe/persona/identity/style/brand.
^The biggest problem with your concept is obviously pricing. How does anyone compete with platforms that allows people to view and download stolen content for free? That's what Tube and Torrent sites do and unless you shut them down then porn producers will always come out the loser. At this moment OF content is available on multiple pirate sites so clearly their paywall business model does not make them immune to piracy.
I appreciate that you believe that porn in 4K is important but is it really? Think about it. Would you consider a badly shot, badly lit, badly acted porn scene to be better if it's in 4K? No you wouldn't anymore than you would consider a well shot, well lit and well acted porn scene to be inferior if it's only in 720p.
I'm not sure about brand loyalty. I mean I'm still a huge fan of studios like Anabolic, Diabolic, Platinum X, JM Production, Redlight District, Elegant Angel, Evil Angel and I could on for a long time but my loyalty and that of many other paying fans was not enough to counterbalance the effect of piracy on the porn industry. It's not a question of paying fans being disloyal to their favorite brand/studios. There are just too few of us to make doing porn a profitable endeavour.

As far as the nicheness and subscription costs of the matter, yeah, a sparse few companies will figure out a consistent base that pays a luxury price, and it'll be on content that feels distinct (at least in the buyers' minds) from other content.
The buyer's relationship to the brand is increasingly key to every industry of discretionary purchases and scarcity, but yeah, porn companies that survive will have figured out a way to lean in on that and will have carved out some somewhat feverish die-hards.
^Porn cinema has been around for over 50 years and once upon a time there were dozens upon dozens of studios all across the world shooting porn on a regular basis and they were able to make a profit. Is there a single studio alive today that was alive 20 years or more ago? I can't think of any. We are talking about studios who had much higher production and distributions costs and they were still able to make money. Studios who had a much smaller audience than today because their content could only be viewed in a theater or on vhs/beta tapes. Just the sheer amount of available customers should make porn more profitable now but it's the opposite.
^Well yeah, because porn is "free" on the internet, no one "needs" to pay for it. So the people who will pay will be generally those who want the best quality immediately upon availability, those who just appreciate the brand, and those who want to be part of a supporter base where what they think and want to see in the productions matters.

The problem is a lot of times they recycle footage for their new subscribers, and it's hard to tell if it's an unlock you already purchased. Why spend money on something you already have ?
so apparently there's a browser extension which reveals the length of the clips in a bundle without a preview, so you can always compare the length of these clips with anything you might have already bought (either via the purchased section or if you've downloaded them on your computer). ofc the OF creator could still split something they've sold before into multiple parts, so there's no guard rails against that. ultimately, it's on you to think with the right head before you buy something, demand for previews.
Here's a recent fuckup from me where I wasn't thinking with the right head: I started playing some game on Eva Lovia's OF; by game, I mean one of those agency PPV scams where the agency will sell multiple bundles, each subsequent one increasing in price which will contain one word or multiple words, ultimately forming a full sentence that allows you access to some inner secret vault of content they haven't released before... except there is never any such vault or content. So here I am unlocking $20, $30, $50, $80 bundles and before I know it, I'm $500 deep. The reason i started playing this stupid game was because she captioned the initial bundle with "new BBG, DP, etc." so here I am thinking the agency can't simply lie in your captions, because it's one thing to weasel out of "new DP" by saying it's a dildo DP; that's just false marketing, but what about this new BBG? In between unlocking these bundles I asked her if the DP was just her Tushy scene and she said "well depends on if you want the old one or the new ones", which further piqued my curiosity. I repeatedly ask her for previews, which she doesn't send. At one point she/agency even said that "she recorded the BBG last year before I got pregnant", which to me sounded more like actual Eva than any agency. Then she, a different agency person by the way her writing tone changed, replies that the DP is actually dildos and the BBG is a "plan to shoot later this year", which again are more lies.

Custom videos also cost much more than I can afford. Additionally, there is the issue that when you request a custom video, it is often not fulfilled exactly as you want. These websites should exist, but they should at least try to make pricing a little more reasonable so that more people can afford them.
