I'm starting to use Opera for more of my browsing needs as a result. One of the things I'm curious about is how many Opera users are really out there? I didn't realize that many (most?) Opera users configure the browser to pretend it's Internet Explorer. Our web stats show that only 2% of our visitors use Opera as their browser. I suspect that the number is actually higher. Are you using Opera in IE mode? If you are, which version of Opera are you running? [Link]

BIGmike B-I-G-m-i-k-e 2335 Posts 3/01	Posted - May 8 2004 : 1:09PM I love Opera, and thanks to Em, I did find out that I could update it to use with sites that use Java, but haven't tried it yet, though I did do the upgrade. The best features are tabbed browsing, wow is that a cool idea, having all open windows, tabbed for convienience inside the main window, rather than having upwards of 15 IE windows scattered about. BadKarma Member 110 Posts 11/00	Posted - May 9 2004 : 5:13AM Opera is great. I use Opera 7.x on Windows, Mac OS X, and 6.x on Linux. Its much faster than IE (IMHO). The only problems I have encountered are with sites that are designed ONLY for IE. In those cases Opera sometimes has a rendering problem, as does every other non-IE browser. [Link]

It loads signifigantly faster than mozilla or ie when you're starting it, but since around 1.4/5, it's been the same to slower than the gecko engine, used my mozilla and k-meleon, which i've found to be the fastest. I can't get myself to pay for it, in all honesty, mozilla, firefox, k-meleon and the IE shells(slimbrowser, avant, myie2) all offer the same tabbed interface, with the gecko ones having the advantage of hundreds of plugins thanks to it being open source. I still have some trouble with it, it's identifying itself as IE falsely hurts its standards-compliance and barfs rendering a page here and there. It's still lightyears ahead of IE, but with the linux/slashdot crowd firmly with mozilla and family circling their wagons, there's a good chance it's future may be as the laserdisc of browsers unless it gets swallowed up for it's source and programmers, netscape-style. Since Firefox (aka Firebird aka Phoenix) hit version 0.6 I haven't used anything else. Excellent rendering, tabbed browsing, pop-up blocker and short load times. What more can you ask? [Link]
jamesn Senior Member Cambridge, MA 750 Posts 1/04	Posted - May 9 2004 : 2:39PM kperv-it's awesome, and free. if you haven't, install the adblock extension, and you'll never see banners, flash, or other annoying stuff that starts moving around on webpages-i'd guess i see about 10% of the ads that i should be and it's rule-based so you don't have to block individual banners, etc.there are so many good alternatives to stuff like IE, media player, and most notably, IMHO norton's entire line. Some websites restrict the browser to IE and Netscape, so that toggle is essential at times. I encountered the problem when using bank and credit union websites for online banking and bill pay. That´s in certain ways very funny, isn´t it? But it´s true, some websites don´t show up when you use Opera and let it not pretend to be something else. I hate every program made by Microsoft, so I use alternates, whenever possible. Microsoft has far too many spying tools and I do not feel comfortable with these. If someone wants to know something from me or about me, they should ask me and give me the right to decide, whether I want to give an answer or not. Click to expand I took a look at that in Opera (7.11) Drew and it seems messed up. Icons are displaying twice next to each other, and the icon of the Lock is blown up super big. Most of the time, I'm not seeing icons at all, just the black Adultdvdtalk.com box. -- Snowman [Link]
