Personally, I like them because they give a human quality to the actors, rather than just sex objects. However, I hate it when they show some girl totally joking around in the middle of a scene, because it makes me feel like the scene I just watched where she was screaming with passion was a fraud. I have posted about this before, but the quickest way to ruin a porn is to take the mystery behind it away. I can think of several dvds that I cannot watch because I viewed the behind the scenes and the whole illusion of reality was destroyed. I can't even enjoy Chloe anymore because I saw that her whole orgasm from anal act is just that...the contortions and facial expressions was purely method acting... and seeing this revealed ruins the turn on, the fantasy, etc. [Link]

I've seen some really fantastic stuff that I'm GLAD I got to see, and I'm not prepared to lose that (or the possibilities of what I could see later) just because the illusion was destroyed a couple of times. I don't know. It's tricky. I often approach behind the scenes stuff with a little trepidation and I ALways watch them independantly--after I've finished watching the feature itself. Sometimes I see things I'd rather I didn't see, but more often, I'm rewarded with some really great stuff. Mike L. [Link]

I find a lot of my enjoyment lately stems from getting a glimpse of the true personality of the performers. Of course Chloe is as fake as a $3 bill, but that isn't a surprise. What I particularly enjoy about Nacho's movies and their related titles is that the movies themselves hint at something further shown in various behind the scenes segments. Nacho spends considerable time with his actresses, he parties and club hops with them, and develops some real friendship. This helps the sex scenes become more than just two (or more) hired bodies getting it on. Instead, it is often a group of friends having fun together in a sexual setting, and that chemistry can be seen in the final product. [Link]

I love interviews and behind the scenes stuff, but if it involves showing the fakeness of the sex or performer, then I dislike it supremely. Nachos behind the scenes stuff is great, and sometimes he doesn't cut it from the final dvd, as with Latin Psycho 2 which had some great moments with Nacho and Bella when she is doing her makeup. This could easily of been on a behind the scenes section, but was quite fluid to the scene. My hope is that the 'true personality of the performers' is in the dvd already and shouldn't have to be discovered in a behind the scenes clip. This is why certain directors and performers are the best; because they are open to showing this. If I discover the true personality on the behind the scenes, usually I am disapointed because it does not match the 'character' of the scene. I also feel jaded by porn, as Speelie has remarked. Unfortunately, the interviews and behind the scenes stuff sometimes takes away from my pleasure of the movie and action. Their is a fine line... and when its crossed I usually dislike the dvd. One more example of a ruined scene, it was Animal Trainer 5 and this was from my review here at ADT- 'one of the three girls is a whiner (check her out on the credits to see how impossible she is to work with, Rocco goes soft on her and says something in italian, I am guessing its not very nice...)' I can't watch this scene anymore, because I know the chick was impossible to work with and she gets in the way of the dynamics of the scene. While this might spark my intellectual curiousity, it takes away from the eroticism... Which brings up other issues and I won't digress anymore so I will stop here. [Link]

Hence, I've really been into the quickie stuff on the Anabolic website, which I'm now finding hotter than some of the regular Anabolic videos. (Hoping, though, that some of these scenes actually make it onto the DVDs ...). But, it DOES underscore the sense that porn is a business -- so that could diminish the enjoyment for some viewers. But, to me, it actually counteracts the "I'm so jaded" factor. [Link]

After buying two horrid Jerome Tanner movies in a row ("Visions of X 2" & "Tales from the script"), I found myself jacking off a lot more to the behind-the-scenes than to the actual scenes (which is a lot to say about Tanner). I disagree in a previous opinion, in that I just love to see the performers goofing around during sex, at least they're not drawing another line out of a vial, you know, human beings having a ball, it's sexy (to me, at least). i should be so lucky, lucky lucky lucky [Link]

I work with Directors who love to do commentaries and put together extras as an extension of the project and there are others who absolutely refuse to do any sort of behind the scenes materials for fear of harming the fantasy. I think there are very good points on both sides. There was once a DVD where I left out the behind the scenes footage completely because I felt that half the cast and crew would have come off looking pretty bad. By the same token, when I edited the extra footage for Trespass, I only had an extra cameraman on the set one day for two of the scenes and thought the behind the scenes would be really short. It ended up being an hour long because Marty and Britney wouldn't stop having sex even when the main crew stopped shooting. They ended up having sex on every set in the studio. When Jordan Haze and Voodoo started the director just let them go for a while and there are all these great shots of the crew just standing around, eyes wide, watching them go at it. To me it's just another level to an already hot scene. Commentaries are similar these respects. Some of them have been pretty heavily edited before they make onto the final project. Our best one's have come from Jim Steel and Jon Yuma & Nic Cramer. In both cases, they were able to make the commentary a new experience. Jim can take off, and give a really funny, acerbic take and Jon & Nic have a great banter pulling in comments as far flung as politics, religion and odd proclivities and both can pull it off without, I think, detracting from feature. I hope more folks comment on this here. The line between what we think should and should not be included sometimes gets pretty thin and the consumer prospective on this aspect of extra materials hasn't been heard enough. Faron OGV [Link]

I want reality, for fantasy I have a very active imagination. The problem with most porn is that the people DON'T seem real, or show much personality. A whole movie with scenes like Faron describes would rock! I also think it's important on another level to keep reminding people that it IS only a fantasy, but don't go by me. Click to expand Although I've only heard one of Jon & Nic's commentaries (I think it was on Ecstasy Girls 2), I have to agree that they did a great job. If they're anywhere close to that same level on the rest of their commentaries, then they've probably one of the best teams out there for it and right up there with the Jonathan Morgan / Serenity commentaries. simonster Member 132 Posts 1/02	Posted - Nov 14 2002 : 4:24AM one thing i'd like to add is as how lame it always strikes me when a director uses 'behind the scenes' footage, be it in the 'special features'-section, added at the end of the flick or wherever, to make fun of a performer or take a late revenge. like mark wood and brandon iron do in their 'try a teen', where they basically call summer storm a stupid, smelly c... . it's simply not professional, guys, and not a very grown-up way to deal with tension on the set. I think 3 suffered a little because they were done in the same afternoon and they were a little tired going into the second round, still, IMHO, better than most I've heard. I just try to restrict my comments to things that would be constructive without sounding like I'm shilling my product. Simonster - Wow. Hadn't heard about that. Yeah, that's a really cheap shot. I have stopped a recording session to ask a director to re-phrase something or leave out a comment I felt sounded like a personal attack but never anything close to what you described. She made comments as to how he pays for her life, etc. Not only was it annoying, but it just further added a little ammo to those who think porn actresses are nothing more than hookers (which i diasgree with.) Needless to say, this scene with this chick is now un-wankable. But on the flipside, the extra features and outtakes on a whole were fun and added to the dvd aside from that one clip... [Link]

We always include a few outtakes even on our VHS tapes duringthe closing titles just to let our viewers know how much fun we have making our videos. Most of the time, when the camera's aren't rolling, we are busy doing mundane stuff, like lighting, set decoration, moving set-ups, or cutting up and having fun.
