It seems that there is a large spectrum of major porn sites that use the same source for camera, lighting, direction and sets.

^I'm not exactly sure how you came up with your question. Once upon a time I would have understood why you asked it because there was a need and a desire by producers to hire professionals but once cameras got smaller, stopped needing actual film and got significant technological improvement than that was more or less the end of professional camera operators in porn. These days anyone with a camera can film a porn scene. In fact many have actually removed the camera operator and simply film POV style scenes. As for sound and lighting well who even bothers with these things?

^ I don't think the OP was referring to the "stuff."
Rather, the people doing the "camera, lighting, direction and sets" are, seemingly, the same people being utilized by a "large spectrum" of major porn sites.
Hence the title of this thread: Outsourcing Technical Work?

That explains why they suck. A lot of bad camera and editing out there. Never any innovation. Never any visual priorities. Never any complimentary positions. Just a lot of dilettantes behind the camera. This is not in any way a criticism of the actors, male and female. They are the only ones with any talent.

^Mind you I can't exactly blame most of todays porn producers. Their return on investment is so low that hiring extra people to work on a scene or movie may cost them more money than they can hope to make and that's not good business. At least you now see a resurgence of more artsy type porn and that requires a certain level of talent to film. Girlfriend Films shoots amazing lesbian porn scenes and they manage to make a profit so it's possible.
