I don't know if i'm a good movie reviewer, but I don't care at all. I just try to make my reviews entertaining and I just can not stand it when people lie about a movie and make crap sound good just to sell it.

Of course when a movie is very good, I have no problem with trying to make a movie sound really good! Sometimes I love a movie so much that it's hard to not overdo my praise for it!

I've had several people steal my reviews and post them on their site, so I guess that means they were somewhat decent or the person was desperate! There are perhaps thousands of Japanese bukkake movies out there so it's really hard to find a good one. A very high percentage of them are not good at all.

I think that some of the 'high-end' producers of American porn movies sometimes used to focus too much on story, character and drama, at the expense of the sex, as if they had forgotten that the main talents of their cast were as sex performers rather than as actors. 'Virtualia 1 - Cybersex' is certainly a worthwhile purchase. I just saw the C4 repeat of 'Porn Shutdown', which was broadcast yesterday evening, and it seemed to me to be a mostly fair and sensitive look at the Los Angeles industry's HIV crisis of 2004. I’ve posted the following review of the documentary to a thread in the AdultDVDTalk forums:
Ex-porn star Dr. Sharon Mitchell and her medical project AIM were 'the centre of gravity' in this documentary. Sharon made many intelligent observations about the service she provides for the porn industry, its importance and its limitations. Her HIV screening process failed to give a positive result for Darren James and to protect his co-stars because, it seems, he was infected shortly before he took a test: Sharon pointed out the obvious, that her screening clinic can't offer performers a guarantee against HIV infection.
In terms of the documentary's 'narrative stance', there was a real sadness to the stories of the performers Darren James unknowingly infected - particularly Laura Roxx - although both the infected women who were interviewed (Laura and Meriesa Arroyo) appeared to be really strong in coming to terms with their HIV status.
The documentary took an approving line on Vivid's policy of using contract girls and condoms, and on the use of condoms in gay porn (as expounded by Chi Chi). But at the other end of the spectrum it was suggested that gonzo, where no condoms are used, is becoming increasingly debased and degrading. (Here, the documentary zeroed in on rape fantasies involving Afghan terrorists and Americans abusing Iraqi women: this, perhaps, is where the film made the sensationalist error of tarring all gonzo feathers with the same brush.)
Laura Roxx's allegation that T. T. Boy tried to intimidate her with stares when she returned to Los Angeles to be interviewed for the documentary does him no favours at all. (Apparently it was during the making of one of his Evasive Angels films that she was infected by Darren James.)
On the other hand, Max Hardcore and Rob Black both came across as charismatic interviewees. It's as if both men appreciated that by cooperating in the making of this film and agreeing to be interviewed, their personal charisma might, in itself, help mitigate what the documentary would have to say about the dark side of gonzo. (Black played out the role of an outrageous dude to comic effect, while Hardcore exuded gentlemanly charm - even when explaining how he uses pissing in his movies.) However, neither of these producers had any direct involvement with the 2004 HIV outbreak: interviews with or statements by Darren James or T. T. Boy would have had greater relevance here.
Kami Andrews contributed by demonstrating what 'double anal' is, and her flippant comment about her fears that one day her ass will fall out served only to back up, kind of, what Sharon had been saying about the increased health risks associated with this form of sex. (Kami has emailed me to say: "Actually, I got so much heat about that [my comment], people dont know how to interpret me. I'm glad you got it.")
The documentary suggested that not all the women involved in the sex industry face up to the risks they're running. The viewer really felt anxious for one young performer, Kayla Marie, who was seen waiting for her test result after having been placed in 'quarantine'... and the news that in her case the result was negative brought palpable relief. (The fact that James had come in Kayla's vagina, not in her ass, was mentioned as a point which possibly made the difference in her case.)
The evangelical right were briefly covered as porn's "true enemies", but mercifully the documentary didn't pretend that they have a voice in the debate which deserves a serious hearing.
Christopher Eccleston's narration lent restraint and decency to the tone of the documentary, and there was a sense of being 'on side' with the women while looking into the terrible sadness of the particular situation with the HIV infections and exploring concerns about the risks.

Back in the early days of Private video, an excellent stewardess scene called 'Night-Flight' featured in Private Video Magazine #8. This scene was shot in what appears to be a mock-up of a passenger flight cabin. 'Who Watches The Waitress?'
I like Flashboy's suggestion about the presence of middle-aged or elderly 'extras' on the restaurant set. There's something exciting about the idea of a contrast between the youth and beauty of the model playing the waitress and the age and plain looks of the surrounding diners.

Moli, who used to film for the German label 'Magma', is an example of a director outside the Private fold making regular use of older actors as voyeurs. In Moli's movies, various senior citizens would savour the proximity of hot young babes rutting under their noses. Either alternative would bring an extra erotic dimension to the scene.
One of the sweet frustrations of porn is that the babe in the frame is unattainable for the viewer; she exists only as an image of a prior event (the shoot), and she's not really there, in the flesh, however much we may desire her.
I think that what might appeal to us about scenes in which elderly men participate as voyuers is that their situation reminds us of this 'frustration about the unattainable', which is essential to porn.

My submission for the Private Fantasy range would be for a vignette called 'Anal Underground', shot in the mock-up of a carriage on a London Underground train.

The scene was called 'Sex Under The Tower' and it was released as part of 'Private Video Magazine' #20 (1995). The studs were David Perry and Jean-Yves Lecastel and the girl's name isn't given at the start of the scene. She had short brown hair. There is some footage of the trio wandering along the Champs-Elysees before they end up under the Eiffel Tower, where they have have sex on a bench. It looks to have been a freezing cold night and the two guys seem wary, as if the risk of being arrested was weighing on their minds. I guess this scene would have been shot at about the same time as the production of 'The Tower', which is also set in Paris. In terms of sheer horniness, I think that 'Sex Under The Tower' is trumped in 'Private Video Magazine' #20 by the classic anal scene 'Ildico', where a girl in pigtails and Daisy Dukes is taken by four guys.

The difference between a classic vignette like 'Sex Under The Tower' and the recent 'Sex In Pub-lic', by Toni Ribas, is that Woodman soon gets down to business with the fucking, whereas a lot of time is spent by Ribas revelling in the 'naughtiness' of a quick poke or a quick suck in pub-lic - and flirting with the risk of being spotted by tourists or shoppers. 'Sex In Pub-lic' is fun in the sense that you end up finding out what it might be like to date a mischievous nympho like Lucy Belle as your "girlfriend for the day" - and dating Lucy is possible if certain escort agencies are to be believed! But the film is flawed by the fact that the beautiful Belicia is present in a scene without actually getting fucked herself!
Overall, 'Sex In Pub-lic' is closer to the sort of thing that Ben Dover (aka Steve Perry) used to get up to: it trades as much on the comedy of embarrassment as it does on lust - with the unwitting passers-by as the patsies. And although it's fascinating to watch Ribas fooling around with his girls in Prague's Old Town Square, or at the Buda Castle in Budapest, it was far more daring of Woodman to mount a full sex scene under the Eiffel Tower, an iconic landmark which is closely and jealously policed by the French authorities.

Pirates or Jason Colt?
An excellent question! I've gotta say it : overall, 'Pirates', the Digital Playground / Adam & Eve production, is far better. Jesse Jane and Devon are hard acts to follow when it comes to blonde American talent, and I love the enthusiasm with which Jesse giggles her way through the DVD commentary track. The special effects sequences in 'Pirates' are truly amazing, but they don't intrude on the sex.
Private's 'Jason Colt' is lavish and spectacular but the director makes the critical mistake of prioritising a flashy editing style over pornographic impact, ruining some of the key sex scenes through over-indulgent tricksiness. The bottom line is : if someone wants to see 'The Bourne Ultimatum' or 'Casino Royale' then those are the movies they'll rent. If they want to see a good porn movie then, sure, they may well prefer an expensive-looking, whizzbang feature-length porno to some nasty cheap gonzo, but at the end of the day they'll still expect to be able to settle down to some enjoyable masturbation without the director / editor continually getting in the way! It's all about striking the right balance...
Kapri Styles, one of the leads in 'Jason Colt', is among the sexiest stars out there. The idea of a Vampirella parody is very appealing. I, too, had a thing for this bloodsucking femme fatale when I was a lad, and I spent longer than was really good for me absorbed in repeated readings of her original mags, published by Warren Comics. The cover paintings held a special fascination for me, and I was endlessly thumbing through the artwork of Franzetta, Sanjulian, Enrich, Gonzales and Silke. This image would be a wonderful artistic cue for a scene in a Private movie entitled 'The Vampire Fuckers'. I would cast Steve Holmes as the cowering 'Count Cockula', and Ginger as 'Cuntella' - the star of the show. Ginger's name is, of course, a comical misnomer, since she has dark hair, just like Vampirella! In her movies, Ginger's look resembles closely the image of Vampi as realised on the #18 cover (but minus the fangs!). When watching Ginger's scenes, it's easy to see how casting her in this role would work amazingly well. If an audition is required, look no further than her scenes in 'Reality #19: Beds of Sin', and 'Body Shock'.

There are other possibilities for a 'fantasy' casting of Cuntella. Marvel at how closely Cristina Bella resembles the image of the vampire vixen as realised on the cover of the Silver Anniversary Edition of 'Vampirella of Drakulon'.

As a pleaser for poster Bram, 'The Vampire Fuckers' would need to include a parody of the scene in 'Bram Stoker's Dracula' where the Brides of Dracula prey on Keanu Reeves' character, Jonathan Harker.

In 1992, Francis Ford Coppola incorporated to his 'Bram Stoker's Dracula' references to numerous 'moments' in the history of vampire movies throughout the twentieth century. For example, the highly erotic scene where the Brides of Dracula seduce and feed on Jonathan Harker is shot and edited as a kind of homage to the schlock horror of early 70s Hammer releases like 'The Vampire Lovers' and 'Lust for a Vampire' - but Coppola goes beyond even that, to flirt with some of the codes and conventions of porn. Coppola's scene is, of course, a 'softcore' piece, but as the three foxy bloodsuckers set about the entranced and helpless Keanu Reeves, Coppola manages to evoke the kind of intense intimacy that we find in blowjob or group sex sequences in 'hardcore' porn. Perhaps Private should now repay Mr. Coppola the compliment of an acknowledgement, with a hardcore parody of the scene... Incidentally, the high standard and the style of the special fx make-up in the Private Ninn release 'Perfect' leave me wondering whether some of the make-up team hadn't also worked on 'Bram Stoker's Dracula', or at least used reference materials from it: the prosthetic mask created for Ninn's Demon in the dp scene with Jodie Moore is very close indeed to a mask worn by Gary Oldman when Dracula appears in his demonic incarnation. Was this the same make-up talent? (It's excellent work, which puts to shame the third-rate use of prosthetic make-up in Private's 'Eternal Love'.)
In 'The Vampire Fuckers', Cuntella's full name would be Cuntella Karnstein. This would be a nod to Sheridan Le Fanu's character, Mircalla Karnstein, as played, respectively, by Ingrid Pitt and Yutte Stensgaard in Hammer's 'The Vampire Lovers' and 'Lust for A Vampire' (both 1970). These were the first mainstream vampire flicks in which the focus of the undead's attention transferred openly from neck to nipple. Ms. Pitt, who still makes occasional guest appearances at vampire festivals, could perhaps be persuaded to reprise her role as Mircalla for a brief cameo performance in 'The Vampire Fuckers' - now that would be a coup! The opening scene would be set on the planet Drakkulon, where Mircalla bids farewell to her young protegee Cuntella and sends her on a mission to Earth to infect humankind with the curse of eternal lust and overthrow the evil dynasty of Count Cockula... I foresee a trilogy...

'Dracula AD 1972' is actually amongst my favourite Hammer horrors. Christopher Lee looks absolutely depraved in it - and although it's true that after the pre-credits sequence he never roams beyond his lair at the desanctified church, the scene in which he subdues and gets stuck into the hysterical and whimpering Laura (Caroline Munro) is one of the most vivid instances of perversion in the entire Dracula series. As for the contemporary milieu, Jessica Van Helsing (Stephanie Beecham) and her bohemian friends hang out in a fashionable Chelsea bar, so we do get some sense of a swinging seventies London in the scenes with them.

Young, blonde and buxom Linda Hayden plays Alice in 'Taste the Blood of Dracula', and she's my favourite Hammer starlet. I certainly have, before now, jacked off to the bedroom scene in which Alice, attired in a revealing nightdress, is threatened with a whipping by a drunken Victorian patriarch and then 'turned' by the evil Count.
'Scars of Dracula' includes a farcical but arousing scene in which a comedy burgomaster chases his scampering, naked daughter to her bedroom, intent on punishing her for her promiscuous behaviour, while she holds on desperately to a bed sheet as the only means of concealing her boobs. (Very 'Benny Hill', all this.) But the sexiest Hammer Dracula of them all is the last one, 'The Satanic Rites of Dracula', which at times really pushes the envelope in the direction of soft porn.
Flashboy, I know from reading another topic in the forum that you have a thing for twins. I wonder if you've ever seen Hammer's last instalment of the Karnstein trilogy, 'Twins of Evil'. Madeleine and Mary Collinson are two gorgeous young models who play orphaned Vienesse twins. It occurs to me that, despite all the obvious differences, there are certain interesting similarities between much porn production and how Hammer was working as a relatively small, low-budget studio: e.g. efficiency in using the same locations and sets, and much of the same cast, for different movies made within a single production block; use of 'contract talent'; and an unashamed re-hashing of established genres, with a willingness to give the audience exactly the sorts of set-ups, cliches and climaxes they had come to expect and were paying to see. Hammer films certainly achieved a popularity with their target audience, and this represented a real commercial success when set against the often low costs of production. Hammer was an example of a small-scale but successful British adaptation of the classic 'studio system' of the golden age of Hollywood production. It is sometimes said that nowadays, in a world where the practises of mainstream movie-making have changed, the only companies which really continue to use that old 'studio system' are the porn producers - and they use it with enormous success.

This Slovakian site is extraordinarily beautiful, situated among green hills and forests. It would make an ideal exterior location! As yet the castle ruins have been under-exploited by the media, and there's been no major development of tourism around the neighbouring town - despite the symbolic significance of Elizabeth Bathori to we goths!
There's always the Transylvanian castle of Vlad the Impaler, the Count himself, but that's a more obvious location, surrounded by cheesy tourist activity. Hungary is a country which would give plenty of options, as it has no end of castles...

A lot has been written about 'The Tower' and 'The Golden Triangle.' I finally got around to ordering 'Sweet Baby' vols. 1 and 2 this week, and when these DVDs arrived I was interested to note that on the box covers the wording of the title has been changed to 'Sweet Lady'. I assume that this alteration has been made to eliminate any possibility of a dubious or undesirable ambiguity: out of context, "baby" might be misconstrued as suggesting under-age...? If I'm right, it's reassuring that Private is taking this super-sensitive approach to a revised presentation of its products: this shows that the company is serious about its responsibilities as a world leader in the production and distribution of 'civilised' porn.
That said, I couldn't help wondering whether 'Sweet Babe' might have been more appealing than 'Sweet Lady' as a replacement title. I recently ordered and received the deleted Private DVDs 'The Tower' and 'The Tower 2 + 3' from an American retailer, Adult Video Universe. Both DVDs were produced in 2000, and I was surprised and delighted to discover that these releases were still in stock. The Adult Video Universe site includes customers' reviews of titles on sale, and the following review of '2 + 3', together with comments already posted in this thread, left me with no illusions about what I was buying. 'The Tower' DVDs are edited versions of the original VHS releases, and certain scenes with good-looking models and great sex are not included. I remember these missing scenes from old VHS copies, but even so I've been thrilled by the opportunity to acquire the edited DVD editions. The 'surviving' scenes are premiere-league Woodman, and after all they make up, by far, the greater part of the original movies. It's been fun to watch again the scenes with Alyssa and Monique Covet - in the light of Woodman's recent 'A Life In Porn' reminiscences about casting for 'The Tower' and his personal hotel-room frolics with these girls!

Hi, jex. Maybe you'd prefer the Private compilations 'Cumshot Deluxe' 1 & 2 or 'Cum Guns'. Perhaps Private could produce a limited edition 'Best of Private Music Soundtracks' audio CD. These would be my suggestions for tracks to be included on Side A.

1. 'Hot Pool' is a title I've assigned the intense, moody track played to accompany Kate More's scene with Sophie Evans and Franco Roccaforte in the indoor swimming pool in 'Fashion' (dvd scene selecton 3). I wouldn't include the lengthy musical intro which gives a background to the voiceover at the beginning of the scene, but instead I'd begin the track from where the action between the girls starts, at 1 min 30 secs, as the synth percussive effect suddenly snaps the scene into a sexual rhythm. I'd fade the track out at 5.30, before it mixes into all those unconvincing sexual moaning vocals.
2. 'Fetish Treatment' is the title I'd give to a slinky synth rock track in 'Sexterminators' (dvd scene selection 3, 2.34 - 7.16). it's the track to which cyberbabes Mandy Bright, Michelle Wild and Patricia Diamond perform an erotic dance and a masturbation show for the benefit of a bedridden patient.
3. 'Two Times Born' is the track played against the 'extra scene' featuring Vivien in the dvd edition of 'Call Girl'. It's also used in the main body of the film, where clips of Vivien are mixed into the scene with Sindy (aka Monica Moore) (scene selection 6). This track, in the style of electronic trance music, helps to induce the sensation of a sexual 'rush'. It's the most effective use of music in porn that i've ever heard!

5. The music in 'Party Babes' is all credited to Ninfa and the rights to it are held by Fraserside Holdings Limited - i.e. it's all Private's music.
The individual tracks have no on-screen ID other than the titles of the scenes against which they're played, and the vocalists don't have any individual on-screen credits: so the extra information you're asking for would need to be posted by someone who was actually involved in the production or who has inside knowledge.
The sex scenes which stand up best as music video parodies are 'The Black Studio' with Tarra White, Black Angelika and Mike Angelo - the 'gangsta rap' track which goes with this one is really good - and 'Tekno Babes' with Suzie Diamond, Tarra White and Ramon Nomar.

I agree that it would have been good to see more of Lara Stevens in 'Island Fever'. Despite her limited role in the action, she is very much 'the face' of the film, as manifested in the superb cover pic printed on the disc, which also graces the front of Private's mail order catalogue for winter/spring 2003-04. I've been consuming Private porn in one form or another since the mid 90s - on and off - and in that time I've kept a 'weather eye' on Private's main competition. To my mind Private has always been way out front - and it still is. If I'm nostalgiac about Woodman's Private works it's because he was a leading light in revolutionising European porn, but since his departure an array of new talent has carried the torch forward at Private and maintained an influential industry standard.

Recently there seems to have been a degree of criticism of Private output - particularly on message boards in the U.S. - with contributors objecting to what they regard as the 'softcore' ethos of the company's high production standards and style. This I utterly fail to understand. For me there's nothing 'soft' about Private's aesthetic presentation - the gloss and glamour serve only to enhance the impact of the hardcore action and celebrate the cumshot!
The cumshot is inarguable evidence of the reality of male pleasure on set, whatever the context - and it's a necessary point of identification for a male spectator seeking gratification from watching the scene. But once the cumshot is guaranteed, and all the hardcore business around it is given, I see no reason why the porn shouldn't be packaged in a slick and stylish form. This is exactly how it should be.
'Real sex' porn is too often an excuse for weak production values. In Private movies, some directors go for highly stylised sexual choreography while others are touching base with scenes of 'earthier' sex, but what they all have in common, it seems to me, is a view of the cumshot as a kind of celebration. Rating Private’s Directors
I think that developments in digital media can offer ever-more impressive platforms for delivering porn, but in the end it's the quality of the creative talent in terms of the directing, casting and production design which matters most. As for storylines, there is a limited number of archetypal narratives available - this limitation applies to any genre, not just to porn. The trick is to come up with fresh ways of inflecting and dressing the familiar narratives.
Personally I think that Private continues to fare well, and I agree that the best way to go is within the stylistic traditions established by Woodman and Adamo.
I always liked those brief black and white replay sequences in Adamo's films. They mark the transitions between the different phases of action in a sex scene and they seem to me to be psychologically true to the experience of having sex. They parallel those moments of delirious pleasure during lovemaking when you close your eyes and allow the freshly-made memories of the high points of what has so far been happening between you and your partner to flood your mind and spur you on to further exertions... As for Adamo’s use of slow motion, that ties in with the feeling you sometimes get during sex, that the experience is so blissful and intense that it is even putting time out of joint.
Romagnoli is in many ways a protégé of Adamo, equally capable of creating effects of lust-infused dreamlike delirium.
I think there's almost a case for two entries for Woodman, as he gave us two styles of product: (i) his high-profile, on-location feature film series and (ii) his more 'gonzo' type of stuff in the 'Castings' and 'Superfuckers' series.
For me, Alessandro Del Mar has yet to make a big impression, and I await 'Millionaire' with interest as he's been given that project and I know that it's an important one ("this year's 'cockbuster'", as Madboy explained).
Gazzman blew me away with 'Hot Property' and he deserves a high rating on the strength of that movie alone.

'Sex Angels' has been made a flagship title, and although Dominguez has an entertaining stab at it, serving up some very raunchy scenes, I'd have liked to have seen a director on that one who's capable of a little more gloss and post-production panache. I still prefer Nic Cramer's 'Operation Sex Siege' as a Private movie in the 'Guns and Rough Sex' genre (though maybe Ivy Crystal was a little underused!)
A really exciting development, I think, is a contribution to the Private range by acclaimed American director Michael Raven. I've just seen his new release 'Delilah'. The star is adorable and the production values are high. If Raven is going to do more work for Private, he'd be picking up on the trend for high-end American gloss started by Michael Ninn.

It's been a while since I bought new Private DVDs, but my latest purchases arrived this week... so I can start catching up. I've begun by watching 'Chateau' #1 and 'Cum On My Face' #3. I'm saving up my new 'Crusoe' disc because I'm expecting it to be something special.
I couldn't help feeling that several of the 'name' stars in Conrad Son's 'Chateau' have passed the zenith of their porn careers. Four of them already have enough water under the bridge to have had their own 'The Private Life / Story Of...' releases; and, in some cases, faces (if not bodies) are looking somewhat tired and lined. My favourite scene is the one with Victoria Swinger. Even she has been around for a while, but she retains a bloom of youth... a bloom which seems, now, to have faded from some of her more seasoned co-stars.
With all due respect to established favourites, I think it's time for the limelight to be trained on up-and-coming new talent. Pierre Woodman always had a knack for populating his movies with fresh faces - devastatingly attractive newcomers - so even the feature films he did which lacked a strong 'concept' became classics of the highest order. (I'm afraid that 'Chateau' doesn't really cut it as a strong 'concept' feature, by the way... If the publicity and packaging didn't spell it out that this is supposed to be a 'Dynasty'-style saga, I would never have made that connection. That's not to say that 'Chateau' isn't picturesque... the cinematography on location is sometimes very impressive indeed.)

My first Private tape was an early Private Video Magazine but I can't recall its number right now. There's a scene in it called 'Bed and Breakfast', and a scene starring a sweet-faced brunette who had hair flicks which would now look rather dated. In Toni Ribas’s 'Sex Auditions' series, maybe the suspense is meant to be all part of the entertainment: in some of the auditions Toni gets to go the whole way; in others, he doesn't; and the viewer is kept on his toes wondering if the girl in the scene just starting is indeed one of those who has agreed to get fucked!

I used to love it in the days when Woodman ruled the roost at Private, and particularly in the magazines of the 90s when the models had cartoon-style thought bubbles coming out of their heads (I've lost count of how many times Alain Deloin was shown to be lost in clouds of thought while shafting some gorgeous euroslut in the ass.) I think that nowadays the quality of the photography in Private's stable of magazines is better than ever, but I miss those cartoonish graphics. These days it is more typical for 'artsy' style graphics to be added to the photosets, and I find that occasionally these can be a little distracting. For example, the Frederica photoset in Private magazine #181... The photography is fantastic and the girl is as horny as hell, but the curvy lines which cut 'artsily' through the action do get in the way a bit.

Let's hope that, independently of stills taken on movie sets, the original studio photoshoot continues to be a staple of Private magazines, for both print and internet platforms. Much of Private's studio photography in the nineties and in the noughties (so far) has been amazing: it's an art form in itself; and Private magazine picture content shouldn't be relegated as exclusively an adjunct of movie shoots or as a repackaging of past triumphs. Yes: the future in any of Private's media rests primarily on Production!
Original, exclusive, studio photosets are what the magazines need; and I, too, hope - despite some recent trends - that this is what we continue to get. That given, our personal preferences about models and the styles of the exclusive shoots are a subjective matter of taste, and generic differences become a way of distinguishing individual magazine titles.
Of course, purchasers of print magazines in sex shops buy only those titles or issues which appeal to them personally - that's the traditional model of porn purchasing - but as subscribers to private.com we're essentially accessing Private material across the range of its main titles (gay material excepted, currently), so it's hardly surprising that any given subscriber is going to prefer particular models and styles over others. Subjective preferences vary, but there are objective standards of quality in terms of the professionalism and artistry of the production and we should acknowledge those standards when we see them even when a particular model or the content of a particular shoot isn't exactly to our taste.

Back in the day, 'Pirate' wasn't that much different in its content to the other Private magazines - part of a print 'zine "golden age".

With a 50% reduction in Private's stable of print magazines, are we going to see a change in the editorial policy for the remaining titles, 'Private' and 'Sex'?
In terms of 'still images', will there be a change (for better or worse) in the balance of content between DVD tie-ins or recycled material and new, dedicated photoshoots by top studio photographers?
Is Private going to sustain or even increase its current volume of original photoshoots and pack these into the surviving magazines, or will some original photoshoots now be published only on the website?
Or is Private's reduction in the number of print magazines part of an overall 'down-sizing' which means that we're going to see less original photoshoot content across all its media, including the website?
Some news, or a press statement about production and editorial strategy would be in order, I think, as 'Pirate' and 'Triple X' finish their distinguished run. A chapter in porn reaches an end, so we need some reassurance about what to look forward to...

'The House Of Games' is another slick, stylish offering by director Antonio Adamo, and a 'must' for fans of Dutch star Bobbi Eden. In this film, as elsewhere in Adamo's work, there are shades of 'Eyes Wide Shut': the story involves a mysterious cult at whose 'house of games' it is possibe to fulfil forbidden desires and fantasies. The models all have smouldering good looks, and the sex is directed and photographed with precision and panache. I'd like to single out the performance of Czech girl Ellen, for certain techniques she brings to the sex.

The final scene of the film (dvd scene selection 6) opens with all the characters wearing ceremonial dress - three men in black cloaks, and Bobbi Eden, Ellen and Daniella Schiffer dressed in white. It's not long, of course, before the girls slip out of their garments. Bobbi is chosen by the master of the house to join him in watching the action as the other two girls are each appointed partner to one of the remaining, hooded men.
The sex begins and everything you'd expect from a workout in a Private movie is delivered. 'X-treme' was brilliant at the outset, with directors like Romagnoli at the helm; it lost its way when Kerkove took over. There are numerous other Private labels to enjoy, but these are the ones which have made most impression on me.

I've just watched the first of the two DVDs in 'The Private Life of Laura Angel' double-disc set. I was really interested in Laura's interview, which links together the various scenes. Belatedly, I've bought and caught up with 'Lady Of The Rings', 1 & 2. It was a memory of imalius's feedback that put me off buying these movies earlier. But I have to disagree with his comment: I've really enjoyed both films. Simony Diamond is a delight, as is Lara Stevens. The movie’s blowjob position is a case in point. It's a position repeated from scene to scene which "brings the girl low". With her head positioned over the edge of the sofa, her arms reaching back and her hands grasping her heels, the girl is reduced to an oral receptacle. I've heard that some of the U.S. agencies which advertise big-name porn stars as escorts - including girls who've worked for Private - are actually rip-off merchants working under false pretences. But maybe there are some genuine ones too. It must be a bit of a come-down for a girl to move away from the professional buzz of a lively porn set in some exotic location to spend her time instead dating portly businessmen with more money than manners and a sorry tale to tell about how their wives don't really understand them.
Apparently there are escort services which have on their books - or have had - Black Angelika, Angel Dark and Lucy Belle, among others. There's a thread about this somewhere on the eurobabeindex forum, and some guys offer feedback on the expensive time they claim to have spent with Black Angelika and Angel Dark.
I'm sure there are many misleading escort services, too, which hijack copyright images of famous porn stars for their web pages but provide their clients with far less glamorous women once they've got their credit card details!

Nerdgirl, could you or a colleague answer a question I have about a Private director, Michel Ricaud, who I believe may have died while working on a film. There is a simple, touching tribute to him at the end of a Seychelles movie - is it 'Beauties in Paradise'? - and Pierre Woodman refers to him in an interview about shooting in unusual or dangerous locations, commenting that it was terrible what happened to him in the Seychelles... My question is what can you tell me about this respected director and the sad circumstances of his death?
This interview with Pierre Woodman, which is mostly about 'The Fugitive', has been re-released as an 'Extra' on the new DVD edition of 'Private Castings: 41'

Thanks for the recommendation, Bawdy. I guess you're someone who's already pretty well acquainted with Pierre's past Private scenes. What was making me hesitate about buying into this range was that I'll probably already own a lot of the scenes on other discs. If you can recommend this release as a stand-up entertainment in its own right, with new stuff to enjoy even for someone who already has a familiarity with the past scenes, then that might sway me in favour of buying...

Cool. Which scene was it? If Pierre is going to get to talk about that movie and 'The Tower' over the course of his 'Adventures' releases, I'm sure that that will attract interest - given the developing cult status of these now unavailable films and the amount of discussion they've already excited. Hopefully some isolated scenes from the 'Tower' will also be considered appropriate for re-release in the 'Adventures' series, but I don't know.
P.S. I've just read your post in 'VIP in Barcelona!!!' where you mention that in the new release Pierre does discuss 'The Golden Triangle' but doesn't go into great detail about it.
P.P.S. I see Su Ann is on the Private Shop cast list for 'The Adventures' #1, 'A Life in Porn'. So is the scene included from 'The Golden Triangle' the one which Su Ann shares with Mame Young and Alberto Rey? As I recall, one of the girls holds Alberto captive on a bed at knife-point and then both girls fuck him. This scene is already available on the 'Private XXX' DVD (Scene 9) where it retains the fuzzy video quality of the original and thus charms us with a kind of 'movie-lost-in-time' feeling. I can't remember whether Su Ann had another scene in 'The Golden Triangle'.

I believe Private Club was therefore planned as a collaboration between these two, though Pierre himself wasn't interested in shooting video at this time. Anyway, the "Private Adventures of Pierre Woodman" is invaluable for these kinds of insights, and a must have for anyone interested in his movies, or indeed the history of Private.
