In the real world, and around the globe, most women Do Not shave themselves bald. American porn is not the real world. It is the trend today in porn which I don't like.
Japanese porn is censored, with digital mosaic effect. A blurred patch of dark pubic hair looks better and gives some visual interest/titillation in spite of the censored image.

I don't know what world you live in but my world is that every chick shaves bald. Period. I shave my balls don't you? Poll: What percentage of live pussy do you see shaved? Do you shave yourself bald?
In real life the shaved pussies are increasing especially in younger girls , many girls also ask to their BF to shave them bald either , reason could be the new very little panties they use and the trend of low jeans a hairy pube would be very bad looking trough the panties and jeans In my personal experience is about !/3 shaved 2/3 hairy , I never shaved , nor I've been asked to. I prefer a trimmed girl rather than a full hairy though
I've only done limited reading on Japanese art and culture, but I understand pubic hair has a particular cultural significance, perhaps even a fetishized status, that is very different from the United States.

It is my understanding, after reading several threads on this board, regarding Japanese porn stars, is that pubic hair is an outward sign of fertility in Japan and is considered to be very attractive to Japanese men.
I agree.. those cuties would look sooo hot shaved.. Now, as someone who has lived in asia for 6 years, i can tell you, shaving is becoming in style in most asian countries, Japan should hop on the wagaon soon. a big yay to that brother..!
^ Thai prostitutes who shave in order to cater to the tastes of their porn-fed Western johns are hardly a sign of shaving becoming "in style" among Asian women. But if you look at uncensored Japanese porn, you will indeed find that shaved pussies are becoming more and more common. Red Hot, Sky High and the like now have compilations of 100% shaved pussies. And you'll even find a fair dose of shaved women among the amateurs in Third World Media's Japanese DVDs (although it's pretty clear that many of them have only recently shaved, and only because they're going to be on camera). Luckily, we're still far from the requisite shaving that has become the standard in American porn over the past decade, so there's still ample variety in terms of female pubic hair style. So misogynists of the world, rejoice! The American porn industry has finally succeeded in colonizing the Japanese pussy. Women worldwide are now ashamed of their womanhood, and are so afraid of offending pornified male tastes that they engage in the time-consuming (and often painful) task of removing their naturally growing pubic hair just for you. So whereas before there was an abundance of soft, long black Asian pubes, now we have plenty of stubble and razor burn, just like in American porn! (To be fair, though, male Japanese performers have also started removing some or all of their pubic hair of late. Just goes to show how the porn industry dehumanizes men as well as women.)
Is it about dehumanizing men or women, or is it about capturing a good penetration shot? I've seen enough porn from the seventies and eighties to know that all that hair down there could disguise what was going on. Trim or no pubic hair = a much better penetration shot. Japanese porn has that infamous mosaic, so the need to wax or shave isn't quite as necessary.
Of all the vaginas I've seen in person in the last year (all due to nude photography, not sex. Doh! ), only 1 has been hairy. The rest were shaved or had a landing strip. I'm a big fan of bushes and pubic hair now, which is a complete 180 from about 2 years ago. A LOT of art nude models sport bushes now, which I really dig. Other women friends of mine that I've all talked to about this all shave their pubic hair too. It's a societal thing now I think since it's almost an unwritten rule that you have to shave your pubes if you're a girl. it's another aspect of media telling people (not always explicitly) what is beautiful and what is normal. People follow it because they think that's what's 'normal'. It's a norm now in the US for women to shave their vaginas, but I'm sure 5 or 10 years from now it'll go the other way. Outside of the US it's way more common to see bushes. I wish it was that way here.
Its probably due to the companies making the shavers and creams etc. Totally shaven men look unmanly to me. But I have taken to shaving my penis and balls so that girls can give a better bj.

They don't shave because they are smart. Natural is better.
The video quality from the 70s and 80s was poor, though, which is why the hair obscured penetration. If you watch any of today's "hairy" releases--including UNCENSORED Japanese porn (Red Hot, Sky High, Third World Media, etc.), you can still see great detail even though both performers have pubes.
Since when did waxing a cunt mean that a woman was a slave to consumerism?

Let it fly in the breeze And get caught in the trees Give a home to the fleas in my hair A home for fleas A hive for bees A nest for birds There ain't no words For the beauty, the splendor, the wonder Of my...
^What if that is what the girl wants, maybe she finds being shaved as more sexy and more of a thrill as her lovers tongue glides over her shaved pussy.Maybe she finds "hair" disgusting and unsexy,to say that all woman who shave do it because of pressure from society is a bit hard to accept.
Because overseas Asian women are not influence by what American White Male scoeity thinks. You can say that for European Countries as well. They go with what feel natual to them and I say more power to them.
If you look at what made her to find her own body hair disgusting, I suspect that not far below the surface you'll find the influence of our misogynistic, pornified, consumerist American society.
^ And how does this gel with those who shave because of issues regarding the invisibility of the vulva? Sexist cultural perspectives that women do not have "exterior" genitalia? i.e. the clit and other parts of the vulva are not as easy to access during sex and/or masturbation, and shaving off the hair exposes these parts in a way that is empowering? Edited by - Gore Gore Girl on 6/9/2012 9:55:10 AM
^ That may have worked back in the '70s, when most women had bushes, and those sexist cultural perspectives may have been more prevalent. In de Renzy's Femmes de Sade, for instance, the one "punky" prostitute is shaved, which conveys a certain rebelliousness and shock value given the time period. But it's hard to justify pubic grooming/shaving/waxing in the 21st century on that rationale. Today's misogynists are precisely the ones demanding that women remove their pubic hair in order to make their genitalia more "visible" and "accessible"--to make real women more like the ones they see in porn. Is it possible to empower yourself by conforming to exactly what your oppressors want? (And just from a practical standpoint, I'm not so sure hair really gets in the way during sex/masturbation/cunnilingus, based on my own experience.)
^Just let it grow out! I honestly don't believe those old-fashioned notions of women lacking visible genitalia carry much weight any more. Keeping it natural in America today certainly conveys a sense of non-conformity, and a refusal to modify your body to conform to the porn-shaped desires of American males. Edited by - DAF1740 on 6/9/2012 1:24:34 PM
[In response to DAF] ^ I'm going to go ahead and assume you're not directing a demand toward me personally. I think you misunderstand what I'm getting at. I understand your point, and I understand how certain fashions stem from particular norms, especially fashions for marginalized people. However, when challenges to the norm become norms themselves, or when a person is shamed for their own desires because these desires match a norm, then this reveals a more complex situation. Furthermore, considering there are many many more women who do not shave their pubes than there are women who don't shave their legs/armpits, it seems that the more pressing issue for you would be the leg and armpit area. Edited by - Gore Gore Girl on 6/9/2012 1:43:41 PM
^ No I wasn't directing a demand toward anyone, just providing a hypothetical answer to your implied question, "What's a heterosexual woman to do?" The reason the pubic region seems more "pressing" to me is that it is THE area that makes a woman a woman. In forcing/pressuring a woman to shave we are essentially controlling her pussy. It's also a more recent trend--time makes hair removal from other areas seem less pressing for the moment. Hair is also removed more easily from legs and armpits, with less damage to the skin (shaving the pubic region leaves razor bumps, while waxing literally rips the skin off). As you've said elsewhere, GGG, pubic hair styling is a means of communication. Even if a woman does have entirely personal and feminist reasons for removing her pubic hair--and I'm really not so sure that's even possible in America today--, the message she would be sending to male partners would very likely be drastically different from what she's trying to convey. Shaved pussy = insecure woman who succumbs to society's pressures to modify her body in order to make it more acceptable to males and show that she's always sexually available (perhaps so she can compete with his porn). Sounds harsh, I know. But our entire society is built upon making women feel insecure about themselves so that they consume more. Contemporary porn is one of the leading vehicles through which consumerism exerts its forces--manipulating male desire, leaving men forever unsatisfied so they're always searching for more (ideally spending more money in the process), making violent and degrading sexual behavior seem normal and acceptable, taking something as organic and natural as human beings having sex and transforming it into a sanitized, vulgar spectacle. Shaving is a big part of this. Men will of course insist that shaving is just "common courtesy" if the woman expects a man to lick her, or that they want to be able to see the vulva (as if a bush somehow hides it when you're actually in close and intimate proximity to one in person), or that it's sexier, more hygienic (always that obsession with female cleanliness), or whatever. When Jandi Lin retired after a year in the porn business, she said what she regretted the most was contributing to an entire generation's fucked up perception of sexuality. She has a point.
Re: the heterosexual thing, I understand what you mean now. That wasn't what I was referring to. I was referring to heteronormativity. What is a heterosexual woman to do when heterosexuality is one of the most dominant norms in society? I didn't mean regarding hair. Anyway, your response makes more sense now. Misunderstanding. We agree on some core ideas, but I find what you're saying problematic and at times insulting. I'll leave it at that. Edited by - Gore Gore Girl on 6/9/2012 2:57:06 PM
If genitalia is all it takes then why do we have people who feel they are trapped in the wrong body - the opposite sex's body, to be precise? Maybe what makes a woman a woman has as much to do with what's going on in the rest of her body, including her brain.

I have a bias as I prefer bush (for myself as well), but certainly women should be free to make their own choice about the matter without being shamed in either way. I do agree with DAF that within the current context a bush is more 'punk' if you will. Under the current cultural climate though it is interesting that there is the move back to bush in porn and I wonder how this will be reflected back in 'mainstream' society. I wonder why the bush has come back in porn itself, merely a fashion shift or is it something else? It is notable that it is mostly the more popular performers who have brought back the bush.
Well being bald is poular here in the states but not so much in other countries. Girls have been doing this since the early 2000's. Going back to the late 90's trim pussies were the norm. I don't like all the bald pussy stuff. I also dont like 70's style full bushes. Have some hair down there, but keep in in control. Body hair in the states is no longer considered sexy, even on a man. Guys will nare their legs and chest now, girls get brazilin waxes. It is just the new thing that porn helped get out there.
^ Yeah, women in Muslim countries have been plucking their pubes for over a thousand years. (I think the Greeks and Romans may have forced their women to do it, too.) Anyway, here's the passage from Miller. (And no, I don't think a shaved twat is repulsive--pussy is always beautiful.)
We've had a little excitement at the Bal Nègre and Joe's mind has slipped back to the eternal preoccupation: cunt. It's at this hour, when his night off is almost concluded, that his restlessness mounts to a fever pitch. He thinks of the women he passed up earlier in the evening and of the steady ones he might have had for the asking, if it weren't that he was fed up with them. He is reminded inevitably of his Georgia cunt.. What gripes him most about her is that she doesn't put on any flesh. "It's like taking a skeleton to bed with you", he says. "The other night I took her on--out of pity--and what do you think the crazy bitch had done to herself? She had shaved it clean ... not a speck of hair on it. Did you ever have a woman who shaved her twat? It's repulsive ain't it? And it's funny, too. Sort of mad like. It doesn't look like a twat anymore: it's like a dead clam or something." He describes to me how, his curiosity aroused, he got out of bed and searched for his flashlight. "I made her hold it open and I trained the flashlight on it. You should have seen me ... it was comical. I got so worked up about it that I forgot all about her. I never in my life looked at a cunt so seriously. You'd imagine I'd never seen one before. And the more I looked at it the less interesting it became. It only goes to show you there's nothing to it after all, especially when it's shaved. It's the hair that makes it mysterious. That's why a statue leaves you cold." Edited by - DAF1740 on 6/10/2012 10:08:49 AM
I apologize--I definitely didn't want to insult you, or anyone else. I'm just looking at the forces behind what has become an overwhelming cultural phenomenon in the U.S., and talking in global terms. What an individual woman decides to do with her pubic hair is of course her business. And, for the record, while I certainly prefer a full bush, pussy is beautiful, end of story. In a completely un-PC way, I even find the shaved look appealing as it reinforces some of the traditional gender stereotypes (i.e., female submissiveness, insecurity, vanity) that I am decrying on an intellectual level. I can't stand seeing men who shave, though. There's just something hot about a man having a full pubic hair and a woman who is groomed or shaven--like in older Rocco Siffredi scenes.

I think I'm slightly partial to shaven, but can accept both. In my personal life, my two most recent conquests were polar opposites. One (a half SE Asian knockout with perfect breasts) had a fucking beard down there. It made it really hot when I could feel her gushing and turned on, but not so much when I went in for the eating game (I literally couldn't keep the hair out of my mouth). I wonder if it was because she was single for so long, or just a matter of preference. The other (a gorgeous PAWG who had me transfixed) was shaven with tiny little regrowing hairs here and there. It was easier to work with, and very hot during mutual masturbation considering we were both effectively bald. I'd want my girlfriend to shave, and I probably do prefer it in porn (although not always). I myself am fully plucked on the pelvic region, with a view to gradually increasing that to the nuts and gouche. It does seem to make your junk look bigger. I can never go back to hairiness now. But I do have a wildly growing landing strip region, which is hopefully sexy for the girls.
