I checked out a site that was menioned on here (in the Netherlands) that has Euro porn and also uncensored versions of US titles (fisting,GS,ect). I really was interested in ordering-the Seymore Butts titles in particular and was wondering if anyone ever had customs detain/seize any shipments due to questionable content. As I said I am going to get the Seymore titles and maybe one of the Max Hardcore titles while my friend wants some GGG titles. Anybody have any feedback about this ? http://www.erodvd.nl is the site.
I've never had anything opened by customs, and I have ordered many DVD's (and before that video tapes) from Europe.
I have never ordered anything that could be a problem, so it wouldn't have been an issue if they had opened them.
Unless you are ordering movies with performers < 18 (ie old Traci lords movies), you really have nothing to worry about. Movies with fisting, golden showers etc... are not illegal unless a prosecutor in your home town has already prosecuted a store or manufacturer for obscenity.
On top of that Erodvd, removes the DVD's from the cases and mails them (along with the cover art) in a plain white envelope. So you're not even receiving a package from them which makes it even more unlikely that the shipment will be opened by customs.
edit: I just took a look at the Erodvd site for the SB titles. They are all the early FHV (now Sunshine Video) movies. I would be very surprised if they contain any footage that is different from the US version. I don't think that it was until later in his career that SB began shooting "Euro" footage.
Thanks for helping me out. On some of these foreign DVD's, it says "region free". Does that mean they will be compatible with my awful PS2 player or would I still need to go out and buy something? Thanks.
For the most part, the only formats that you need to care about are PAL & NTSC. In order to play the different formats you need one of the following.
- A multi-system TV - This is not commonly available in the U.S. These will accept and play both PAL and NTSC signals.
- A multi-system converting DVD player - These DVD players will play either format and convert it to the other format. My DVD player has a menu option asking what kind of TV I have; NTSC, PAL or Multi
- The last (and probably most expensive) option is an external converter. This connects between your DVD player and TV and converts a PAL signal to NTSC. When going with this option, someone should first verify that their DVD player will actually load and play a PAL DVD. Both of my non-converting DVD players identify PAL discs and refuse to even play them.
As an alternative to buying a new standalone dvd player you should be able to watch PAL dvds on your pc if it has a dvd-rom drive and dvd software such as PowerDVD, WinDVD etc.
It may be worth considering before splashing out on new kit.
So just to make sure, if I go out and buy the Sampo DVE-612, I will be able to watch PAL DVD's on my regular 31" US TV, correct? Sorry to be so ignorant, I never knew I needed a PHD to watch my porno. :-)
That's correct. Taks a look over at The Sampo Zone for more information about how to make the player a multi region player as well as some other neat tricks.

No. outkastfan was referring to TV's that are similar to what I earlier referred to as multi-system TV's.
For the most part, in the US, these TV's are limited to "digital" TV's. These are TV's that are capable of handling at least 480p resolution. Even if you have one of these TV's you would need to make sure that your DVD player can load a PAL DVD.
If you don't have a digital TV, the cheapest, easiest way to view a PAL DVD is to just buy one of the Sampo DVD players.
