Modern TVs have much more resolution, so they are able to display the extra resolution from PAL. Older TVs might not be able to display PAL at all, though, or only in black and white.

Using Nero i copied it, but prior, it told me some material was in pal. i copied none the less without changing settings the pix quality was a little off on some videos awhile perfect on others. If they do strictly follow the standards, the producers can be confident that any dvd player (no matter how cheap or how old) will be able to play the DVD. Well there are region codes and the PAL/NTSC thing but that's another topic(?). On the other hand, website download movies are "unregulated"; the seller has no real obligation to abide by any particular standards. If it won't play on your computer, you can always find another software video player, or convert the video, or whatever. It's not as important as the DVD scenario where the disc either plays or doesn't play. [Link] |
