I think it would be really cool to include 1 on 1 interviews with the female stars in the movie. I have seen vivid do some of it, but not totally. I also think it would be cool to have special easter egg scenes on a dvd-rom feature.

The issue with ROM content is that you can only access it from a PC. We have been reluctant to develop much ROM content, but we have some potentailly VERY COOL things we could do. I am curious as to consumer opinions about ROM content and PC usage. Where do you play DVD titles more, on the TV or on the PC? Would the right kind of ROM content interest you, even if you mostly use your TV? Any feedback on this thread is greatly appreciated. Many Thanks, Wit Maverick [Link] |

Also, as one person pointed out, computers with CD-R and CD-RW are sometimes cheaper, but I think we'll see more and more DVD/CD-RW combo drives. Right now they cost about $250 but I predict they will be be $100 before too long. And recordable DVD drives are right around the corner for the masses! Snowman |

| dexplorer Member 442 Posts 8/01 | The failure of the computer industry so far to use the DVD format for much of anything other than movies has limited the adoption of DVD drives in computers. Other than top end laptops. This is kinda stupid. A lot of reference titles and other things would benefit from the DVD data density. But it is what it is. Net, net, the truth is that adoption of DVD ROM in computers is proceeding slowly. Slower than I would have thought. Although like many things there is a chicken or egg initiator issue here. Laptop DVD movie playback may tip the scales such that reference DVD's become more commmon, such that the cascade proceeds to DVD drives replacing CD ones. |

No one sits right in front of their TV. It would be neat if you could take advantage of that closeness. Like take Steve's suggestion and make it interactive (have a lot of potential answers to interview questions and let the user ask questions.) Or make an interactive disc that isn't a series of loops where the user constantly has to select a new loop. Set up the adventure from the menu and then watch the whole thing. While I normally could care less about a photo gallery, it's a huge opportunity for a company. Make it easy for people to take screenshots from your DVDs - add a watermark for copyright. Look at the screenshots people post on the web, choose similar kinds of shots. You'd help out interenet reviewers and you'd have a better chance of making sure your copyright is on images. |

The kind of ROM content we are thinking of is time-consuming and expensive to create. We don't want to waste our time or leave out too many consumers. If enough people won't bother or are unable to access the content, what's the point? Do yo think more ROM/Video convergence is coming? I mean NUON died, quickly. Will the next generation be more web-dvd friendly? Or are there too many unconnected players on the market to make the transition? |
