WTF? Does anyone else find this moniker makes the associated product humiliating to purchase over the counter? "Motion Lotion" would be more dignified imho.
WHAT? You go to the store. You pick the lube off the shelf. You take it to the register. What is so humiliating about that? Sheesh! It's not like you're buying tampons or anything.
Unfortunately in the US people are raised to be ashamed of their sexuality so purchasing condoms, lube, vibrators, etc. publicly is embarrassing to them. That is why Adam and Eve have such a profitable mail order business and Phil Harvey is a multi-millionaire. That is also why sex supply shops like the one you used to work in are (or were) so successful -- people don't think they will run into their ultra-religious uncle or gabby Bertha there.
To be clear, I have no reservations about buying anything in a sex shop/bookstore, but was indeed referring to the corner Rite-Aid or CVS Pharmacy. On the rare occassion when tampons are on the shopping list, that too is never an issue, as they obviously are feminine products. Lubricant otoh is not necessarily gender specific. It can be purchased by one person, for either sole use, or mutually applied to either partner in a relationship. To me however, The descriptive name "Personal" suggests one person only. "Motion lotion" makes no such distinction, remaining informative and unassuming. "Personal Lubricant", implies for singular use, if not specifically for the singular person making the purchase.
So basically you're saying that rather than use a proper name for a product such as "personal lubricant" you need them to dumb it down to something silly so you can man up and buy it. If you are too rediculous to go in to a pharmacy and buy lube, you're too immature to be having sex in the first place.
I just think it's stupid and immature to be ashamed to buy lube- or even sex toys for that matter. And you really want to know a secret? People who work in places where lube or condoms might be sold don't give a shit what you buy or why. There might be some who hope you use your purchase wisely and responsibly but for the most part, we don't give a fuck. We've heard it all and we know you're just "buyin a gag gift for a friend." But really we just don't care.
LOL! It's not called personal because it's for one person, it's called personal because it's for one's person! You know, as opposed to such items as WD-40 and graphite powder. I'd rather buy lube in a drugstore than a sex shop any day. At least the clerks at Rite Aid don't have "helpful" comments to make.

^^SSG, I'm in your camp on this subject. I think it's quite trivial on what the OP wants to call it. I certainly wouldn't be iembarassed to buy lube in a local drug store, but in my experience they don't carry the good shit like premium grades of pure silicone lubes that we prefer. Since we have no local sex shops, I pretty much need to order my choices online. Edited by - trout bum on 5/7/2013 9:39:30 PM
In truth, it IS no big deal, certainly not as big as your making it out to be. If it was, I'd be buying the stuff online or elsewhere. As with this thread, just an annoyance that gets old.
