to all ....what do you guys think of sex commericials..not the forced front ...but..the commericial at the front where you can fast forward....is that a hassle..in a quandry...want to make money...but i wanna keep you guys happy !!!
There are few things I dislike more than paying my hard earned money for a DVD only to find myself forced to sit through some jackass commercial for a lame product I have no interest in. The attitude it suggests to me is that I'm a captive audience and you can do whatever you want. Well, f*&k you too is my response.
It's very simple, any ads (be they for herbal penis pills, phone sex, other videos) before the feature, make me think poorly of the company. It tells me that you want the quick buck from the advertiser more than my "brand loyalty". When I pop a dics in the player, I want one of two things, either the movie starts (preferred) or the opening menu of the disc. You are making good porn, don't screw it up.
Whenever a DVD won't let me jump to the menu immediately or skip any part of the DVD I get really pissed. I don't care if it's ads, animated company logo (I know who you are I bought the fecking DVD already), or a 9/11 message.
This alone won't necessarily make me boycot a studio unless it's really bad, like long ads and such, but it all adds up.
I do keep a no-buy list of studios and directors, and I've yet to take anyone off it once they've been added for any reason.

The 9/11 message on RLD's DVDs I can be OK with, its quick and to the point. I prefer something like PXP does, each director has their own opening. As for ad and stuff like that, I can't stand them - able to nav past or not... I'll deduct points it they aren't skipable, I'll also deduct points of they are too long. Personally I think they don't belong on the disc at all., A good DVD will basically sell itself - especially with the help of good reviews.
that is what feedback is about...thanks...have you checked any of our acid rain dvd's...admit i was guilty at the beginning..but now we see the light... thanks for your feedback !!!
Whenever I review a movie (to decide if we are going to stock it or not) advertisements at the beginning (skippable or not) gain a bad mark at my screening docket. And since we do not try to stock everything there is, given the choice between two titles, one with ads, the other without, guess which one we buy...
There are two ways to maximize your profit: 1) You make a superior product for which you can charge a premium, ala Evil Angel, or 2) you give the consumer the least amount of material/space you can get away with so you can sell the rest to advertisers. Anybody who's paid the slightest bit of attention to public TV should recognize where that one goes. If you want to head down road #2 then don't expect me to be a customer.

I don't mind the ad if it's only accessible through the extras menu as an option (not the kind you are forced to watch a la Videorama or Hustler) AND if the price of the DVD is lower as a result.
If the revenue from the ads subsidizes the cost of the DVD for the customer, then you will get no arguments from me. But if it's a means to realize additional profits for the studio, then your customer base will dwindle.
In my opinion, porn is an industry where there exists an efficient market -- equilibrium of supply and demand.
Damned ! I don't know ACID RAIN ! Is it a new studio ?
Mitchell Spinelli , do you have a teens serie for ACID RAIN ?
This is what I prefer
And about phone sex commercials , I know that it could give much money to the companies what do some , but I never tried , some friends of mine tried , wasted so much money for nothing ....
And phone sex commercials on DVDs are really very boring .
I don't mind all that much if I can skip them. Sure I don't like them, but if I like the dvd, its not a factor that will make me think twice about getting it. Either the dvd is good or it isn't, no matter if there's ads or not.
Though, I really support howie's view on this. If the dvd is lower priced because of a "skippable" ad and the product is good, then that's great. But the demand/offer factor will pretty much determine if a product sells or not. Just go anywhere and you'll see there's plenty of similar series. It's a question of giving that extra bit to yours that will make it better than the others.

I hate ads in the front of DVDs. And you can never skip past them which pisses me off even more. So I say "fuck you company XYZ, I wont be buying your shit anymore" <<<<[[[[
ITS a volume game...the more you sell the more you make..in the old video days when the commercial was up front....i did a couple grand a month...but you gotta figure companies like vivid..in the day must have done if not still...maybe $100,000 A MONTH..MAYBE MORE
And nobody fesses up to calling those numbers.....go figure. BTW, if ya do place some phone sex ads on your dvd's, see if they will use some fresh footage, some of the same ads are running now as 10 years ago.
I hate them. They don't belong on any DVD I would ever EVER buy. An utter nuisance. You don't see Evil Angel or Red LIght District saddling their customers with such crap. It's a holdover from the old days, for sure. It's also a negative factor I would note in any review.
Even putting them "in the back" is wack because they take up space that could be used for more sex footage or BTS -- a prime motivator for my purchases. I want every single fucking second I pay for to be crammed with fucking or BTS tomfoolery. That's where Anabolic/Diabolic is KILLING these days: 3:30 DVDs. Right on! And Evil, too: Jules especially. He's murdering every motherfucker in town!
No one calls those numbers except chumps. There are online services that are like phone sex cafeterias, where it's really cheap if you need a fast burst of dirty banter.
I have to echo what others are saying: I hate the commercials and things like that affect my future purchase decisions. If you must put them on a DVD then make them an extra feature. If somebody wants a phone sex number, they can go to that menu and choose to watch. Forcing them down the throat of a consumer just creates hostility. If a company chooses to treat me like crap, I choose another company.

I agree on the phone sex ads - and well any ads on a product I purchase. I'm also finding myself getting more and more annoyed at TV logos/ads in the bottom corner of the screen while the show is on.
However, would we hate the ads so much if they were well produced and original? What if the ads actually offered something instead of just trying to get you to buy something?
I agree with Steph. Take a look at the Hustler Hollywood commercials--they're much more like TV commercial quality. With some of the creative minds and technical talent in the industry, there's the potential for some really good commercials that you wouldn't mind watching (provided you can skip over them, ahem).
Mitch, I've yet to check out an Acid Rain titles, but as long as I can skip the phone sex ads I don't mind, actually sometimes I watch them, never call though, it's funny seeing some of the same ads for the past 10 years or so. So my answer is if i can skip them if i choose I don't mind. And I'll be sure to check out some of your titles soon.
