Uhhh anyone els here tired of reading reviews, that barely scratch the surface of whats actually in the movie?

I'm not going to single anyone out here in particular.
But I'm tired of reading reviews that basically come off as a Den review.
"Guy whips out dick. Decent blow job. Anal, facial... Etc..

Give us some detail FFS. Mention something out of the ordinary. Gross, funny, strange. SOMETHING!!!
I have put off renting movies, cause the review came off as uber bland.
Dont get me wrong though. There are still plenty of reveiwers that do a fine job.
Any thoughts?

I would suggest, if you don't like the current reviews, to write some of your own that you would deem more suitable. Perhaps then you would see how difficult it is to write them.

People volunteer their valuable time to write these, and basically we get complaints about how our efforts are somehow not good enough.

If you don't like the reviews, either write your own or read only the authors that you find helpful. Don't complain about people who are only trying to help the consumer navigate through the porn jungle.

Yeah, write some of your own. Reviewers usually aren't paid.

I try to just mention things that appeal to me.

Here are some of my reviews. I don't go into position breakdowns, as those bore me.

Has it occurred to you that 3 times out of 4, there's nothing out of the ordinary happening ? In those instances, and there are many, the only thing to do is the laundry list.

Reviews take a lot of time. You should be appreciative that they're even there.

What I find baffling is that some flicks have 6 reviews, and many have none.I don't buy anything without a review and I'm not the only one. The porn industry could probably bump sales considerably by making sure nothing is released w/o a review. However, "open mouth facial" tells me zip.

There are as many different styles of reviews out there as there are reviewers. What people want to see and don't want to see in a review has been discussed many times before on this board, and nothing will ever be resolved because variety is the spice...

Oh God, not another "why isn't everything done exactly the way I like it" thread. If you think reviews are crap, don't read them. Works for me. And if you find that some reviewers don't offer the insight you're after then ignore their reviews. In the mean time write some yourself, and show people the kind of review you think should be available. I did.

The only way to make sure of that is to write the reviews ourselves (or pay somebody to do it), and would you be interested in reviews written by the producers themselves?

Steph has usually several hundred titles available for the (unpaid!) reviewers of ADT and it is up to the reviewers to decide which ones they want to watch first, not to us, and I think that is a good thing.

Of course on our own retailsite we review the titles we like (and like to sell), but we don't offer those reviews as unbiased, external reviews to ADT or other review sites.

And yes, a good review is good for sales, but the only way to get a good review is making a good product and even then the reviewer in question might not like your style or genre.

Looks like Laura Angel.

On the subject of reviews - if a person is flippant in their description then maybe they didn't like the film ?

I'm writing my first although have only got through half the film so far - Melissa and Tory saw to that !

I have to chime in here. Being one of only a few female reviewers, it's true some movies have multiple reviews. The reviewers that get there DVD's from Steph do have many selections, but we also don't get a lot of new ones in all the time either. I know myself I haven't written every review with the detail that some people like. But like it was said before if you don't like how I or other people review then only read reviewers that you like or none at all.

No such thing as a good review. I look for certain girls doing certain things. There are a million reviews praising vids with "great facials". I hate facials and won't buy no matter how awesome Bono says it is.
But with no review at all, your sales are gonna suffer.

As the others said, write some of your own. Really! You would write reviews that you would want to read, and that will be helpful for others, too.
Personally I find it great to find as many reviews by different posters as possible. If I'm slightly interested in a movie I can read a short one first. Maybe I already know enough then or I'm interested in a more detailed review. Whatever the case, every review is highly appreciated.
Sometimes I read reviews of movies I've watched to see if I would have said the same. Often what turned me on most is not even mentioned in a review, but instead of that there are other aspects to find that I already forgot or didn't notice at all. I think it's great to see movies reviewed from different points of view.
Damn, sometimes I read MLyons' reviews just because it makes me happy to read nice things about Tiana Lynn.
I think it's quite normal that successful and/or exceptionally good or bad movies get many reviews. If it's just another porn movie you probably have to think a lot first before you know what to write. It's easier to write when you already know what you want to say.
Well, often there are short "industry reviews" to find on the box cover. What about this one:
Didn't sound too bad when I ordered it. But it turned out that Nymph Pictures must be located in a very small town. There was one (1) scene including squirting, probably faked, though I've seen worse fakes in other titles. Can't even remember the rest, it was a higgledy-piggledy razzmatazz and shorter than my dick.
We need reviews by people who don't profit by movie sales, or all the movies will turn out to be the best ever in reviews.

There's no such thing as inexistence.

You singled out Den!!!

As for someone else noting that there can be many reviews of the same movie and none of another, some companies are very good at supplying screeners to reviewers recognising that it is publicity. Others, not so good.

I follow the boxcover rule with respects to reviewing. If I look at the boxcover and don't want to watch the movie, I'm not going to review it either.

Like I said, we can not force a reviewer to review our products. So we send screeners and hope for the best, that's all we can do as a company.

I really like the format of Den's reviews and find myself turning to him rather than sites like iafd.com for basic information about a movie. His information is very complete imo and spot-on for things like who does anal, scene breakdowns, etc. These kind of reviews certainly have their place and can be extremely helpful.

I don't see the problem here. Of course you shouldn't buy movie with facials if you don't like them. The point is that review provided you with information that a movie has facials in the first place.

I completely agree with that.
Damn, my purchase of "Cum Rain Cum Shine" has been decided by a Rog review where Rog said it could have been a really great movie if the action wouldn't have been interrupted by squirting so often.

I kinda felt the same way when I first came across adt/iafd. What I did was just start writing my own reviews. I wasn't really good at it but I tried to go into detail about everything and occasionally I'd have more than two paragraphs of commentary for each scene. I try to cover it all but it may not be enough for some, or it may be too much for some and they don't even bother reading it.

One thing that made me start writing reviews was the lack of detail. Not because reviewers didn't have enough details, just a lot of the times they didn't give details that mattered to me (what a surprise). For whatever reason, I care a lot about what the girls are wearing and how long it stays on. Even in my older more crude reviews I never lost sight of that.

It's all about the reviewer's taste in girls and porn and what floats their boat. I have a thing with shoes. A couple of years ago a guy e mailed me asking me for recommendations on foot/shoe fetish type films. I really only dig shoes because it makes everything look better. A foot/shoe fetish film would bore me to death.

When a girl takes off a hot pair of high heels during some heated action, I'm disappointed but I can get over it because it's what makes her comfortable. When the guy does it, I hate it. Somebody else may like when the guy is fucking the girl missionary, raises one of her legs, takes off her shoe, throws it, then goes to town on her toes. I myself can't stand that.

It's all about the girl(s), and I think sometimes male performers forget that. God bless them, but I would consider them last in the equation since the girl(s) is the real reason I'm watching. My favorite male talent are so low key, consistent and effective. There's cases where the male performer can't help but impose. They're usually black guys with 20" dicks or proverbial beefcakes like Manuel. I don't mind them but there are times where I pass up on movies based solely on the male talent.

This is only what matters to me really. Now I think there are enough reviewers that provide enough detail, compared to a while back when it seemed like only a handful of people. If you really think it's not good enough, I suggest write your own reviews. Stick to what does or doesn't do it for you and someone is bound to feel the same way.

See, this is an example of why having many different reviewers is a good thing.

I feel the exact opposite to you, but, I mention what happens to the shoes in my reviews, so you will still know what to expect.

I don't like stating what positions were done like a list. It just isn't important to me. I actually dislike seeing the reverse cowgirl position in porn, unless it's POV. I want to see the ass and/or feet in the air.

I appreciate all of the different reviewers, and know first hand that it takes time and effort to watch them.

The best thing to do if you want a certain type of review is to write it yourself. If everyone wrote the exact review that you want, then many would be unsatisfied.

Heh. I was just trying to stir the pot. Looks like it worked.
I was unaware that reviewers were doing it on there own time. I thought they had the movies sent to them by the companies. Obviously that isnt the case.
There are plenty of reviewers that do an exellent job. And I appreciate them more than ever. Now that I know they arent getting squat out of it.
(They are just eager fans)
I've just seen a few new names pop up in the last month or so. That review a movie about creampies. And they dont hype up anything about the show, or single out anything interesting.
I know, I know. Perhaps there isnt anything interesting in the first place.
But still. A little more detail is all I'm asking for.
Guess I'll just follow the advice, and I wont read the reviews from the people, that just rhyme off positions.
And close it out with the obvious.

Thanks for not singling me out - I know I write some gosh darn awful reviews. I'm really impressed with others here - obviously a great deal of work goes into them, with great detail, stretching out for 3 pages. Plus some have done dozens or hundreds of reviews like that.

But I wouldn't let a bland review through me off the rental horse. Get back on!

When I use reviews to decide on a movie, I'm much more a quick glance guy - does the movie get a thumbs up, or thumbs down? A+ or C-? 5 stars or...and so on. I don't need to know everything about it - and that goes for mainstream also. I'm thinking about rolling out an all-new revolutionary reviewing system. This is the result of what, in my mind, was a wildly successful analogy in my Fresh Pink 2 review in which I compared that movie to the $129 tasting menu (with wine pairing) at Spago (now, that is some fine dining!) to equal a 5 star ranking. All subsequent reviews would simply show a photo of a meal that equals the number of stars the movie is getting from me. 1 star would be an Arby’s roast beef sandwich, 2 stars would be an Olive Garden lunch, and so on. (I haven’t assigned meals for 3 or 4 stars yet).

As a completely unrelated note, our very own Steph once said this about my reviews when I asked if they were too short:

"brevity is the soul of wit"

I think that means they were fine. Maybe it meant they were shit. I'll double check.

HeyNow, I read your review and loved it.

Is there any relation between roast beef and 1 star?

With gape movies you could use donuts.
