Platinum Pictures Inc. (not Platinum X Pictures) is looking for feedback from those who have seen our ethnic pro-am stuff. http://www.platinumpicturesinc.com and stores on the east coast are the best places to find our stuff.

We value your feedback.
Thanks,

Lisa

I only saw gay movies on your site, not my genre.

Thanks for taking the time to look at our site. but we not carry gay titles at this time. The only thing that comes close is our all-male solo line, which we market to our female viewers. You may have seen the cover of the companion calendar. The movies are in the store area and they are all straight at this time.

Your feedback will now be used to make the site clearer.

Like I said, thank you for taking the time to check us out and respond.

What I was trying to express, is that of the six movies on our web site, five were all boy-girl sex movies. We have one movie that was designed for our female customer base.

I am still surprised that some people don't understand that many women like to see straight men in solo action. But I guess I shouldn't be; women are often forgotten about in main stream porn today " Especially those P.O.V videos". More and more porn resembles "Females with dildos".

From our one male solo video on the site (at this time) over 90% of the sales come from women, so I expressed the fact that we market to women.

The other movies may have our male star on the front of his series "like Rocco and others" but upon a look at the covers you can clearly see only straight sex between males and females.

Sorry if that wasn't clear in my response or the Platinum Pictures Inc. Web Site

Thank you for your time and response.

But, that's not what it looks like. The boxcovers, viewed on the website, look like gay videos at a glance . Maybe that's not true wtih a real box but on a website the picture is much smaller.

You don't get much "eyeball" time from either web surfers or retail browsers. The boxcover and website need to instantly convey why the customer would want to do more than glance at the product. It is gay? Lesbian? Any particular theme (anal, teen, etc)?

People rarely feature the male star on the cover in hetero videos, and that's because it doesn't sell videos except for very few cases (Rocco can, but these guys aren't Rocco).

I wouldn't give the guys more than 30% of the boxcover, after title, logos & text (this is usually all Rocco gets). Most of it ought to feature the girls. Likewise the website. West Coast has several lines built around a male star (There's Something About Jack, Pink Pussycat, Mandingo) but never feature the guy.

I could be wrong but I think those solo male movies are mostly bought by gay men, not women.

I just took a look at the site, and I have to agree with the others who have posted here, that these could easily be mistaken for gay videos, even the ones that are male/female ones. If something is going to be marketed to men (if that's what you are aiming for) the boxcover's ought to look similar to straight videos, and at least prominently feature the women, so there is no mistaking what the film is targeted to.

I'm one of those females who likes Rocco, and even I prefer to see him not featured too prominantly on the boxcover. Besides, his titles almost always feature his name in big letters, so it's no mistaking the films for someone else's.

I took a closer look at the male solo video page, and I can understand who you are aiming this toward, probably ethnic women. But, it sure resembles the look of a gay film boxcover. Then again, I think Playgirl magazine doesn't look much different from magazines that are aimed at gay men, and I suspect that some of the buyers/readers of Playgirl are male.

It's too bad your name is so close to that of PXP, and it looks like you were in business before them (2002), as well. Another way that people will get confused with your products.

that is very ugly site!
font is too big, and too many font colors.
and there is just too much Flash -objects, and those are too big.
and there is at least 2 pages, where is video that start playing automatically. and that page did load slow.

DVSX website is best Adult website i now know/remember. (good looking and fast)
and old PXP and RLD sites, i dont like new ones.
i just hate those "back and front -cover" -windows.

this ADT and rogreviews.com is good looking and also works fast.

If the images on the boxcovers at small size appears to be gay because it has a male on it was the point, I now get it. Thank you.

Excellent point and one I will bring up in the next marketing meeting. Thank You!

To our small but growing fan base "Lorenzo" is a young black "Rocco" type of star. They trust if he is on the cover, his hardcore fuck style will be a major part of the video. The fellas will then look at the females pictures to see who he is fucking. Additionally the story or plot line is about him, the girls are just who he fucks. We know that's different but not gay.

And once again the much ignored female customer gets some eye candy too. As a company run by mostly female buying porn fans ourselves we noticed the mentality expressed in your next point.

This is of particular irritation to me (and my friends). I'm a huge Mandingo fan. I heard he had "His" own video line, so imagine my surprise when he "Mandingo" wasn't even on the cover. I never bought the video. (I think this has now changed).

The girls may be attractive but they are only half of the equation. There are lots of pretty girls (and in main stream porn, it's the same top girls over and over) but the difference in the heat of the scene is usually how well they get fucked by "THE MEN". A pretty girl getting "lame dicked" is not as hot as a realistic girl getting fucked within an inch of her life. This is particularly true in amateur or pro-amateur porn where you wanna see people that really exist in nature.

In all fairness you did say "I wouldn't give the guys more than 30% of the boxcover." You didn't say remove the male. Brian Pumper(another favorite of ours) has a line you mentioned "Pink Pussycat" were he started off the size of a logo and now covers about as much as our star "Lorenzo".

Your point is well received however. And I truly thank you for what you have shared with me. It will continue to be challenge to listen and accept the way in which the major market "straight male porn watchers" reacts to what they see, while inviting porn fans who feel overlooked by what is out there now.

Our goal is not to be a just another porn company. With the competition all doing sight variations of the same overall themes, there is very little room for more of the same anyway. I would equate it to mainstream movies. You have your Hollywood blockbusters and you have your creative independent film companies. Viewers are moving towards independent film makers because they break the Hollywood formula and many hit pay dirt as a result.

Even we were a little surprised at the overwhelming female response. We knew that we as women we wanted to see male solo action but didn't see male solo videos marketed to us with straight men in them. So we knew we could have a female base but never thought there were so many of us our there.

I think there are two main factors. one, females buyers are so starved for male eye candy they love it when they can get it. And two, most of the males in the video are clearly straight. As a matter of fact most of our guys who fuck our girls have appeared in the video. Only one guy in the video is gay. And he does this self suck thing (but that weakens my point). Straight men in solo action is a turn on to many straight females, and if the males come along their money is as green, and as welcomed. Our male solos are just that "male solos" not sexuality specific.

NOTE: Nothing I have said here should be taken as an insult to anyone. I really do value the opinions of you guys. I think more porn companies should get on here and talk to consumers like you.

(Note: platinum6969 already answered these while I was composing my post, but here are the thoughts I was writing at the same time.)
I don't have statistics, but my experience in talking with gay males is that they generally find solo material to be less appealing than I do. You can see this "Solo?" thread, for example. It's in the gay forum, and the gay members who joined the discussion were helpful, as so they graciously and consistently are. But notice that the thread was started by a woman, bumped up by a woman (me) and briefly enticed a new woman to join.
The practical side of my brain understands and reluctantly accepts this marketing reality. The feminist side of my brain is so incredibly pissed off by this situation, though. We've had threads in the past where female members (myself included) have complained about the lack of male presence on straight box covers.

And for me, these irksome conventions are part of the whole gestalt of why I'm watching less and less hetero porn nowadays. Gay porn has its conventions, too, but it speaks to me in ways that straight porn usually doesn't even dare to try, starting with the box covers.

Our response would be similar to what I said before. "Straight men in solo action is a turn on to many straight females, and if the males come along their money is as green, and as welcomed. Our male solos are just that "male solos" not sexuality specific."

This has been our biggest nightmare. It is one of the reasons we have failed to grow as quickly has we could have. A few of our lawyers considered trademark infringement remedies since we as registered. But I genuinely like most of the guys over there (their work, we have never meet or spoken), and most importantly with the government trying to kill all our rights to express ourselves in-fighting is counterproductive.

Besides we can't put out a video a week, so we are more targeted. It will be the difference between Wal-Mart and Tiffany's. Wal-Mart may sell more but you'll want to keep the Tiffany product. Tiffany quality is our goal and we know we have a long way to go. But with our vision and help from consumers we'll get there. No disrespect to Platinum X. Like I said I am one of the biggest fans of Michael and Manuel.

Thank you for your thoughts Renee I hope you will post some of what you wish to see in hardcore porn.

You are our hero! (heroine). I respect what the others have said and we will take that into account, but we knew that we were not alone!!!!!

Please send a personal e-mail to me with your mailing address and we'll send you a free copy of "Nuttin" the male solo video in question free of charge.

If you like it great, if not we will take your suggestions into consideration.

And as for your comments about men on the box covers of straight videos, how do these men (who run the porn companies) think women choose to buy their videos. I drop about $150.00 a month of videos that clearly show Rocco, Mr.Pete, and even the black male star Valaentino *not because of his looks <ok> but because of his nasty talk and fuck style. And I will pay any amount with any movie that shows "Hakan" in it!!!!!

And don't get me talking about what happens to male images once most videos start....please.

So again YogaGrrl Thank you, Thank You!

Dear Platinum6969,

I thought some more about my previous post, and thought I'd share with you what sort of stills I like to see, that really signal that a film is hetero, and that could appeal to women and men. The following are DVD screenshot captures, from reviews I've written on this website for gonzo films that were made for men, no doubt about it. The first two are from "Rocco Invades Poland" and the third is from "Euro Girls Never Say No 3"

Without realizing it myself, I usually go for images that are shot from the side, that show both the bodies as well as the faces of the woman and the man, and that are not too hardcore. I also prefer it when it looks like there is at least some affection (or at least the appearance of affection) in the shot. I don't care for overly made-up women, or guys looking like brutes, or anything where it looks like one person is just taking advantage of the other.

One idea I had, about the box cover for your male solo video: What if you, in the upper left corner of the cover, showed a woman's hand, holding a glass of wine, gold jewelry on her hand and wrist, her nails done nice, as if a woman is gazing down on the good-looking guy, from her point-of-view. And have some copy somewhere on the front, that says something like, "Ladies, I'm here for your viewing pleasure." This would signal that the film is meant primarily for women. This isn't exactly an original idea of mine, it's just the converse of the BJ POV films made for men, where you can see the director/cameraman's arm and hand, but nothing else in the frame, except of course for the woman he's filming.

P.S. Another woman here at ADT who does a lot of DVD screenshots is Dumblonde. You ought to take a look at her reviews, especially of the Zero Tolerance titles.

Vote with your dollars and buy M&J on the basis of the boxcover artwork alone!

Dear Renee :

Thank you.I think we did that with "Face" our all oral series. With that cover people don't complain about the guy on the front they just asked which is the front and which is the back.

As for you next point:

Renee Wrote :"I don't care for overly made-up women, or guys looking like brutes, or anything where it looks like one person is just taking advantage of the other."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I agree with your comments about overerly made up (and may I add over airbrushed) women, but where we may disagree is the part about " (the)guys looking like brutes, or anything where it looks like one person is just taking advantage of the other.

Because we tell hardcore stories sometimes domination (Not in the fetish way) is expressed on the cover. In stories of intimacy we show intimacy.

On Platinum Stories One (The Policy) boxcover we even show a kiss.

Make no mistake, because many of us are women doesn't mean we are all soft, all of the time. Actually, most are surprised to learn that women are involved with any part of our hardcore stuff.

We love breaking stereotypes. Because we are decidedly different from the rest, we still have the freedom to express ourselves by saying or expressing what we want without regard to fitting into a mold. We will have movies with intimacy and some with very rough sex, full stories some times and super quick plot-lines that lead to fucking other times. Truly independent porn making. That's why listening to your ideas and feelings are invaluable. Thanks.

-------------------------------------------------------------
Dear TonyC

I agree totally. Vote with your dollars.

I would add this note: BUY (not rent) the titles with box covers and content you like. If you have to rent to see whether you'll like the product or not that's fine, but if you do like it then please buy it. That way the store will re-order. Despite the myth that all of the companies and producers in this biz are makin millions, Independent producers and studios don't make money on the first orders of their titles (in most cases) It's the re-order where we make our money. It's the re-order that gives us the ability to give what everybody seems to want most.... "The next release."

Or if you can buy directly from the Studios like I try to do. That makes all the difference. That goes for all studios not just ours.

Thanks.

One obvious thing here is that there are two settings in which the products are exposed, the shelf at a smut shop and the web site.

It might be the case that the customers are fairly different in those two scenarios. For example, guys are the large majority of customers at even the nicest porn shops here. Perhaps most women who buy the videos do so on the web rather than browsing the racks at the smut shop? The boxcover might be more male-centric for smut shop display and the web site might be more female-centric.

I'm not in target audience for ethnic videos so I'm probably off-base. My only other comment is to talk to clerks at stores and see if you can get good feedback on what they see from customers, and to look very carefully at how the box shows on the shelf - does it stand out, is it too busy? When you glance at the entire rack will the box get lost? And make sure the box is not too dark in case you wind up on an unfavorable lower shelf in a dark store.

PS. As for the trademark, a casual search on Google turns up a bunch of hits for Platinum Pictures, not just PXP. It's not hard to believe that they did do that sort of check and only saw the wedding photographers and such.
