Browsing this site's old threads, I found a thread about "7 Lives Xposed" and that Devinn Lane used to post on this site, this got me thinking about Playboy's fall from grace.

I'll share what I saw as an observer.

It was huge before the 90's but it's not really my era.

From the mid-90s to the late 2000's, the magazine was big, they held casting calls, produced softcore movies and shows and more pertinently had the spin-off the "NSS" aka "special editions" which served a launchpad to many models that we see now on Instagram and even some porn actresses.

They had so many girls willing to pose nude that they categorized them as Cybergirls, Amateurs, ...

Then the magazine started publishing double issues and late 2012, they stopped publishing the SE, also the quality of playmates degraded.

They also sold their online presence to Mindgeek and for some reason they didn't hand them all the material so you have missing portfolios and abysmal doesn't even describe their video quality (I do not blame the MG guys for that).

Then they stopped publishing nudes and got back to it and the magazine became quarterly now and that's not the worst, they still shoot good cover but the interior is really ridiculous.

Back to their online presence, and I really hope that someone from Mindgeek is reading this, what's the deal with Playboy.tv, why some shows vanished, for instance Beach House isn't there anymore, some episodes from newer shows aren't there either and no new playmate contents, they are importing mainly European porn content and the worst thing the scenes are edited.

Of course and for most people the main reason for that is online competition from porn but I think there is more, and I like to hear other inputs.

It's not complicated. Playboy was a print magazine known among other things to show women in various states of nudity and the internet did what it does best with print medias. It killed it. Now if you want to say that Playboy should have seen what the rise of the internet would do to them then I will argue that they probably did but had no real clue as to how to address the problem when they had spent decades being the top adult magazine in the world. Let me ask you. Where's Life Magazine? How popular is Time Magazine? If we want to stick with more adult themed content then where is Penthouse, Swank and the slew of other magazine who dealt with naked women?

You're probably right about the print magazine, but what about Playboy Plus (formerly the CyberClub) and Playboy.tv, their newer content is terrible as the resolution of their videos.

For some reason they stopped bringing girls with implants, as long as I remember, Playboy was always about voluptuous vixens, they even had a magazine named such, now they feature skinny models, there are some hits and misses, even importing porn stars such as Abella Danger, the girl's been in hundreds of porn, what's more to be seen?

Also and while not directly related to Playboy US, I've read somewhere that they are charging models to appear in some "international editions".

The turning point for the playboyplus website was when the mag decided to go nonnude and the site stopped having access to playmates. Up till then the site did a good job featuring american playmates and non-pornstar/unknown cybergirls and amateurs, and the playmates would often show butthole in their videos which were much raunchier than the magazine spreads, so you'd want to regularly check the website out to see if a given model who'd teased you before had finally exposed the goods.

After the whole non-nude stunt faded a year later (and with massive drops in membership) the website stopped featuring playmates and apple pie amateurs and switched to mainly naked european pornstars, the skinny cheap kind that you'd usually see on artsy euro pornsites like hegre.com, and the footage is pretty tame. Needless to say I don't think it appeals to the same crowd anymore, so pbplus is dead to me.

As far the playboy.tv website goes I think that's a whole different ball game. I loved their reality shows, from the early 2000s stuff like totally busted all the way to their last seasons of triple play, but a few years ago it was clear brazzers/mindgeek were producing fewer and fewer new shows and the newer ones also felt very cheap. I haven't heard of a new one in ages. The fact that they pulled some of the old shows from the website, like "King of Clubs" is just weird. The thing about playboy.tv is that website &cable customers probably aren't the primary customers, hotels are. And my guess is that target audience doesn't really need a constant batch of new shows.

If you're looking for similar content there's actually a parallel network of playboy-branded tv& shows running in latin-america, (playboytvla) with their own original shows which are sometimes very good (the playboy.tv website has actually imported&dubbed a couple of playboytvla shows), but afaik you can't subscribe to their website(hotgo.tv) unless you live in a latin american country & have a cable suscription for it. Also the website is broken, most of the episodes don't work and there is no tech support, so not worth jumping hrough hoops for it.

I always held out hope that -with playboyplus being run by mindgeek- some of the american amateurs they featured would be low level models/camwhores that mindgeek planned to slowly bring into porn, but those have sadly been the exception(ex: Molly Stewart).

Well thanks for the latino playboy, it looks like a great site, Playboy.tv imported Presencias as Sexomnia.
But I do not think they have old american shows.

Which playmates showed their butthole, I'd like to see that.

And does anyone knows if Playboy.tv is suffering server hardware malfunctions like failing hard disks for instance Playamtes! is missing episodes 8, 11, 12, 14, 22, 23, 25, 28.

PBplus did bring some really good girls like Deanna Greene and Rebecca Carter but most of them are forgettable.

I found this interesting Instagram post of Kimberly Phillips, while she is not exactly my type, she is one of the most beautiful playmates in the last 2 decades.

What do you think about the "love/hate relationship with this part of my identity"?

Do you think that stuff like this contributed to its downfall?

I think like some have stated its the ease of seeing nude women online. I used to like to buy the Special Edtions such as Vixens, Playmate Review, etc. But then it became easy to see other women whether its models or porn online. Also for me I'd rather watch a gorgeous women have sex rather than just seeing her in a magazine so that is another that could have hurt them. At this point, Playboy is non existent.

It's not rocket science, Playboy just got out hustled by the scumbags behind the tubesites like 98 percent of the rest of the porn companies.

You're not completely wrong but what should a person do to watch a show that vanished from their own site, I'd like to watch shows like Beach House or Sexcetera, one has vanished, the other has a lot of episodes missing.

I also think the early 2000's boom in PG-13 Playboy clones like Maxim, FHM, Stuff had to have an effect on them. They may not have shown full nudity but at that point I honestly found the idea of seeing more well known girls like Jessica Alba, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Megan Fox, Anna Kournikova in skimpy lingerie or swimsuits, a lot more appealing than some random playmates that increasingly looked like they came out of the same mold from Hef's living sex doll laboratory.

^^ oh please, as if there's more than a dozen people who go there to watch shows that are no longer available on the official site.

99.9999% just need a quick fix to jerk off. And that's why most websites have gone under or are being bought up by the big guys who either own the tubesites and make money one way or another, or are big enough to stay in business.

You're absolutely right, most people do that and also most of them do not know the difference between a playmate, a cybergirl and a muse, sadly I am one of the dozen people you mentioned see here
You're also right most people watch porn (or some form of it) to jerk off, but I guess it is impossible with the current Playboy trend, have you seen their models recently.

Jackie Treehorn, yes, he did clearly had a type of women BBB (Blonde, Blue eyes, Big Boobs) but at least most of them were hot, now they look like random girls you see engaged in various sexual activities on tube sites.

As someone who grew up with it, and was even at one point a subscriber, it was sad to see it go, but it was inevitable. The internet does what it does, and like most printed media, they got killed. Hell, even newspapers are disappearing.

That said though, Playboy did help it's demise by getting less and less quality women and going the non-nude route definitely hurt it. And then to top it off, featured a tranny not too long after that. And I got no issues with trannies - be who you are - but I don't want to fap to one, and lets face it, that's why people bought the magazine, videos and watch porn. For a good fantasy fap.

They featured 2 under a so-called equality pretence, it is more about politics than anything else and they are failing in that area.

People used to buy it, especially the NSS, in order to see very attractive women with great breasts (real or fake), now I am failing to see their point in putting runaway models.

Just found out that Abella Danger is now a muse, what used to be a cybergirl.

Holly Madison described cybergirls in her book as any random girl who agrees to take her clothes off and is not playmate material, many cybergirls made a transition to playmates and many of them (who didn't) were better/prettier than actual playmates but why make an established pornstar a cybergirl, she has hundreds of movies and people saw every last bit of her, are they running out of girls agreeing to take their clothes off?

^ I've noticed a decent amount of performers have done pictorials for Playboy lately which is interesting. I guess it goes hand in hand cuz some do Playboy and then porn, the latest being Skye Blue.

Yes, because to the best of my knowledge, Playboy Plus is run by porn Giant Mindgeek who owns Brazzers, Reality Kings and others, the PRIME reasons I post this because I believe they have a presence in a major forum like this one and hope to get answers about missing photosets and shows.

This fact might give Playboy (the company who runs the magazine) that they do not interfere or have a saying in what PBPlus is casting.
Fine so why you closed the paid part of Playboy.com and not submitting the photosets there to plus?

I'd say that now, girls have other options for making money by taking off their clothes. You can still softcore and make some money off pornhub, camgirls, snapchat, etc... Back in the day, if you wanted elite options, it was pretty much Playboy or possibly Penthouse, or do porn.

And even now, hot girls have options and don't even have to take their clothes off if they don't fit what a victoria secret model is looking for, you can still do the above, but you can add instagram and others into the mix. They can just be a "social influencer" and make money by just posting pics in bikinis.

Yes, any girl owning a cell phone, a bra and a thong is now an "influencer" or model, there are at least a dozen "boobs magazine" aka a magazine that posts girls in various nudity stages. Even "International" Playboys (with some minor exceptions like the German one) are boobs magazines they feature nudes, non nudes, girls with really ugly tattoos, ...

One of the things you have to keep in mind is that Playboy has been licensing the usage of their name for a long time. Which means that not all content that has a Playboy logo on it is owned by Playboy. The various international websites, magazines and tv channels are mostly run by local companies who licensed the name, and they own the content, so Playboy can not just use it wherever they want.
Add to that complicated content licensing deals and it all gets very confusing.

What you've said about branding and using their name and logo is absolutely true, but if I was the branding guy there, I'll set at least some ground rules to prevent the brand from falling this low, they have one of the most recognizable logos in the world, even in places where the magazine is still banned (like arab countries) yet you see their other products like perfumes and stuff.

Take for example McDonald's, Burger King and other chains, these franchise are everywhere in the world and probably not owned by the people who own the US franchise but they enforce some strict rules to let you use their name and logo.

The International magazines are a joke, they feature any model willing to pay for the centerfold, I am not against featuring a 44 years old woman as a PMOY (closer to my age, I feel less pervy than seeing an 18 years old) but still they should give younger models a chance.

Yes but the worse the company is doing, the less branding you can pass on. Look at National Lampoon, which was rather strict when they were in their heyday. Come to the end you could brand National Lampoon Toothpaste made with less lead than before. From reporting, Playboy's revenue was starting to decline in the 80s. In the 90s was when a lot of the branding happened, with declining revenue that places Playboy more in a need to brand than to be strict.

That's true, but I prefer to go with at least some dignity, I guess that's why greed is considered a sin in some religions and ethics.

Also they are stupid or just do not care anymore.

Look at these 2 links

https://www.playboyplus.com/index.php/profile/tanya-lind
http://www.boobpedia.com/boobs/Tanya_Lind

Is it wrong to be born in 1980?
It might be an error from the webmaster but it is not the first time, they have done it to at least 2 playmates.

Also take a look here, the site says that she was born in 1992 (wasn't) and went to a casting call in 2006 at ONLY 14, last I checked, that would would illegal and even child pornography.

Still, they can do much better, look at Brazzers and RK, these sites are really good, they are a path to stardom.
