Hi, this is the problem. I have a comcast old dvr that is still hanging in there . It does have problems. It's hooked up to box in another room that my brother wants on again, i turned it off in light of the fact that he left for 8 months. The main DVr will not last forever. I don't know how to wire my brothers box back up that holds the dvr recordings but only the main box can do programming. If i trade in my old dvr box for the X1 it is said that it cannot be wired into a vhs/dvd recorder. It was built that way to stop people from recording tv shows. Upon desperation i started thinking about going to the dish network or direct tv and using their receceivers to hook up to my vhs/dvd recorder, then i thought about buying Tivo bolt for $400.00 but they tell me they are built to not allow hook up to vhs/dvd recorders cause of the damn copy laws. Now, i am a serious tv fan. I jeed my shows and i do not give out my dvds. It's my hobby. What way is there to get around ? i will be sick without my hobby, Part of hobby porn, but computer takes care of this. Iam doin this for two decades and need help badly!!!!! I found "Slingbox" on Ebay item # 753960013992. Needs internet connection, roko (sp) box and a dvd recorder to hook up. Thru wifi is it possible to put the shows from cable box on another tv and make a dvd copy for personal use only. There is never any equipment that carries a promise of not breaking down. I have seen two dvrs in ten years bite the dust and take my shows. Help will b greatly appreciated.
How do i hook up a dvr from any cable company to a vhs/dvd recorder so i can copy shows and movies to dvd for my use only. Not to lend or sell. Or even give away.What cables do i need , how to do it?
I know that, but the problem is that my current main dvr from comcast may only have 6 to 12 months of life left and i use that to record shows to dvd. I just found out that the dvrs that the company has now called X1 from xfinity cant be hooked up to vhs/dvd recorders. Then i stated looking into tivi bolt box and dish network , all the companies and they all say nope cant wire to that vhs/dvd recorders cause the companies are trying to stop people from recording shows, saying copy infrigment. its crazy there has to be a way!!!! iam not even breaking the law, i just want it for myself! I am not a lawyer but from doing a quick scan of some legal sites, they are correct. Copying a program from a DVR to a VHS, DVD, or hard drive is copyright infringement unless it is strictly for the purpose of time shifting, which really wouldn't require one to copy it from a DVR. Therefore technically you would be/are breaking the law.
^The DVR has limited storage space. He wants to make DVD copies of TV shows for later viewing, to supplement the limited storage capacity of the DVR. How is that not "strictly for the purpose of time shifting"? Edited by - ninja1 on 1/30/2016 9:27:58 PM
Thank u for posting this, it's pretty much what the case is. I just need to know how to do it, there are tons of people doin it.It started with the vcr time, but i dont want to make copies of movies that are rented. I actually have a lot of purchased out right movies. I love a lot of the artwork that comes with movies that i buy from stores. Thanks again ninja1.
If that is truly what the case is you should talk to Comcast. They advertise current DVR capability of 500GB is space, which is probably more than your box can do. Upgrading would probably solve your problem and you won't have to figure out how to put them on DVD.
Iam not sure if you have had experience with dvr equipment, but like everything in this world things break down. i had two dvrs from them that simply failed, loosing all my shows. DVRS are not perfect. A tangible dvd has more promise for a few select shows. As i said earlier VCRs came with the rca plugs in the back to allow people to copy, but i just rented and watched. People went ahead and copied costing a lot to the industry, therefore macrovision was put in. Thats a whole different subject. If any body knows how to wire to dvd recorder to a dvr that are new i would appreciate the info. For personal use only.
I believe that the current X1 boxes store the programs on the cloud so if the box dies if they tie a new one to the account it will have access to the programs. You would have to verify with them. If you are actually time shifting I am trying to help you and this should work. Since you have been putting them on DVD that means you should only DVR the standard definition channels. According to Comcast about 300 hours of programming. If you are that backed up maybe you should consider not watching some of the shows. On your initial post you stated you were looking at changing providers and buying expensive equipment for what appears to be an easy fix by going to their cloud storage. As you have pointed out prior in this thread, you have been informed by various companies that trying to do what you are trying to do violates copyright laws. Since Adult DVD Talk supports producers and there are adult production companies on Comcast (like Vivid, Hustler, Penthouse, and Playboy) I am going to shut down this thread.
