Doesn't happen so much anymore. Porn was far more hardcore during the early-to-middle part of the last decade. It's fairly to to avoid now, should you wish to.
The thing I really hate about ATM is the way they charge you for getting at your own money... But seriously folks... Maybe it's more common in the analcentric titles, which I tend to avoid, but I can't even remember the last ATM scene I recently saw outside of a rougher sex title where you would expect it. Whereas as DL says, it was ominpresent in the early to mid-2000s.

The problem is today's directors have the creativity of a tree stump. If they change the sofa or bed mattress they think they are creative. They try to constantly reinvent themselves because they know their products are garbage. Soon you will be seeing more warped stuff that will be commonplace, such as double anal penetrations.
I don't see reinvention, I only see copycats and skipping the details as time goes on. 90% of directors' work is indistinguishable from one another. They all stand at exactly the same spot while shooting a given sex position. They all zoom to exactly the same thing while shooting a given action. I don't think going harder is the answer per se, some here like realtip will pop out of the woodwork to insist that it is, but that has always appealed mostly to the hardcore raincoater crowd, who are the most likely to be downloading their porn illegally by the terabyte at this point. Diversifying the audience who watches porn, working more niches like g/g (big butts use to be a niche but now it's so mainstream), greater production value, vignettes, etc seems like the best bet. More authentic, passionate rough sex and S&M will always have a devoted audience though, and porn should serve that audience as well. Not saying it's going to work, the history of porn doesn't give one much confidence that quality will out, but at this point it seems like they've got nothing to lose and just doubling up on the anal penetrations isn't going to do it.

^ Depends on the scene, but I'd say on average there is a lot more 'girl bringing guy to completion' in the Sweet Sinner titles than elsewhere. The sex is pretty hot.

I don't think this has been suggested yet, but the majority of the films I watch are from the late-70s and early/mid-80s.
