When the camera settled on a close-in full body shot, the focus varied wildly between face and the business end; at no point was the depth of field set so that the whole picture was sharp. The cameraman seemed unsure which end to go for, veering between one or the other, eventually deciding to leave the face blurred. I found the whole thing off-putting and it spoiled what was otherwise a good film. Is this a conscious choice, an inadequate camera, or simple poor camera-ship? It certainly isn't unique to Web Young and I've seen Evil Angel movies by some directors for example, that have the same shortcomings, while other directors produce sharp images throughout. What's it all about? [Link] |
