Howdy to all. I am kinda new to the DVD forum world and really new to the Adult aspect of DVD's. I came to this site looking for a good place to purchase some titles for my wife and I. I found a title at dvdovernight.com listed for sale. Their site states that the DVD's for sale are brand new. When we recieved to DVD to our suprise this was not a new DVD and it was very scratched and the bonus side of the DVD had a crack in the emulsion and was peeling. I have sent 2 emails to this company trying to get a response and a new DVD. They have not responded yet. I am getting pissed off (I have spent this amount of money on special edition DVD's w/ better quality.) Has any one had a similar experience w/ dvdovernight.com and is there any phone contact for them?

Ponyboy,
Welcome to ADT. If you don't mind me asking, which adult studio is the DVD from? I have seen titles shipped direct from the studio still in the original shrink wrap that look like they have been used as a frisbee.
Many stores return disks to the studios if they pop off of the spindles during shipment. You can't be sure that all of the studios properly dispose of the returns. (Not all of the studios have the best quality control systems in place.) It's conceivable that some returned DVDs get sent back out to other customers.
I'm sure DVD Overnight will be contacting you soon.

Some dvds come scratched from the manufactures. Me and a manager from an electronic store here in The City That Never Sleeps opened a batch of Warner's The Fallen..and we just could not believe it! One after another, scratches after scratches!
Vivid and Sunshine has done the same to me. Odd.

Wow, I am pleasantly surprised that this has recieved so many responses.

The title is "The Secrets of the Kamasutra"
I believe it is a Vivid title.

Thank you for your response. You should understand my frustration when recieving a bad product and having no way of communicating my frustration except for email. I just spoke with Chris in the CS department at dvdovernight.com. Wow, I must say that the customer service is top notch like has been relayed on this site. I am not in a position to place blame and would like to personaly thank Chris for quick response and his way of handling a tough situation. I just hope that if it is the DVD manufactures who are to blame that this can be conveyed as a serious matter for consumers. The people who fought for the existence of DVD as the best way to experience home entertainment are not going to tolerate crap like this.
Again thank you DVDOVERNIGHT.COM and Chris.
I just had to vent....

Ponyboy,
That particular title is a fairly old Vivid release. I'm not sure if they have some of the original pressings still in stock but I know that they had a problem with one of the duplication services they used early on.
I remember that the back side of many early Vivid titles had a "milky" look to the reflective surface. This was due to a harder plastic being used for one half of the disk. I was told the hard side did not cool at the same rate during the lamination process and this difference was the cause of the discoloration.
I had the pleasure of visiting Vivid's warehouse about a year ago. Vivid assembles their DVD packaging house. In contrast, most adult studios have their DVDs packaaged by the duplication service. This could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on the emphasis on quality within each organization.
I know this doesn't make your particular situation any better but I thought it might shed a little light on things for you.

Just wanted to add one more positive review for dvdovernight. I ordered Andrew Blake's "Aroused" from them on Sunday. It arrived on Thursday and was of course shrinkwrapped and in perfect condition.
I had emailed them before it arrived since when I ordered it was listed as out of stock. Unfortunately they've been having server problems which delayed their response - but they did get back to me in reasonable time.
One other plug - they have the lowest price I've found for the Studio A Andrew Blake DVDs (although they don't stock Pin-Ups 2 for some reason). It'd be nice if the pricesearch knew about this....

Thanks for the insiders report Drew. I did not consider this that old of a title. It also had recieved a better review on this site. So this raises some new questions for me. Is there a list of which studios make what DVD's, and are there some that are considered better than others. Where can I find this info. Or am I better off with reading reviews asking lots of questions and hoping for the best. I am know quite alot about the standard DVD process with the major studios and follow which ones are releasing better products but this is a whole new ball game for me. Thanks for all the kind replies, and concern. This has turned into a rather enjoyable experience, and I have not even seen any porn yet :-)

to get a variety of opinions on each studio search the first forum "Talkin' Porn" for the studio name. that should give you a good feel for each studio.
we can put together some informative sheets on each studio. i will add that to our 'to do' list.

DVD Overnight sends us a file every once in a while with their new titles to add to the price search. I just double checked our database and we don't have Aroused in our database.
The price search works a little different with each participating store. We have written custom crawlers that scan some stores for titles and prices. Other stores have implemented a custom automated export and others send us updates as attachments to emails. We strive to keep the price search as accurate and up to date as possible but we can only be as good as the data that we are given.

I can safely say that DVDOvernight rocks. The DVD's(when rented) always arrive pretty quickly and in a sturdy cardboard mailer unlike other rental operations. I once rented Timeless and found much of it not viewable due to scratches. I emailed them about it and they had no problem crediting me for it.
Now if only they had some sort of Marquee system like Netflix does. I can get unlimited rentals(only 4 at a time though) each month for only $15.95. I'm actually planning on dropping it since I don't have enough time to view those(non-porn) and the porn I rent. If DVDOvernight could do something similar though, I'd be there in a flash.

Here is an update. Well, finally I have recieved a perfect copy of the disk(5-8-2000.) I am very pleased with the way DVDOvernight has handled this situation. According to Chris at DVDO, the owner of the company sent some disks back to the distributor along with a harsh phone conversation explaining the problems. This has resulted in a brand spanking new disk for me. Nice going guys. I will have to try the rentals now.
