I just came here to start a topic on this. I believe in supporting the forum. I don't block ads. I click on things that interest me, etc. But this new pop-up ad is going to push me out of here. No kidding. I've quit other websites because of this same shit.

^ I click on banner ads and links. If D or S asked for something that would support the board, I'd do my best. But obnoxious ads are a deal-breaker. Sorry--I'm not trying to be a dick. I'm just trying to voice my opinion in case it matters; and I'm vain enough to believe that if I feel a way about something, others will too. And yeah--I quit Yahoo because of obnoxious animated and resizing GIF advertisments that were annoying the shit out of me. I quit an online newspaper that has a columnist I like because of moving, floating ads that need to be clicked on to turn them off. And I have a short of things I'll never, ever buy because they're heavily advertised in annoying ads.

If you click the x the ad appears once a day. We are considering not having it for registered users. However, we have the least advertising of any free adult site out there, maybe any free website. We removed the entrance page for registered users - despite the fact that the entrance page has some of our most effective advertising on it. If we don't make any money off forum traffic then we cannot operate this forum. There will be more ads as the current model is not sustainable. We are experimenting with different types. Is the X, and whatever effect clicking on it has, completely within your control? Or are we depending on some third party ad server thingie to be on its behavior? I don't mind clicking it once a day if it's the former, but would be leery of having to do it otherwise.That's astonishing. Who are these people who want to read this stuff but not take part? It's a third party ad server. It's based on IP address. So if you're browsing on a phone or with a dynamic IP address that could change you may see it more than once every 24 hours.Generally it's people landing in the forum from search engines. On the main forum page there's a section at the bottom that reads along the lines of "370 forum users currently online 6 registered users, 364 guests". That's real-time data and does not include search engine bots.
I wish we could run Google text ads but that's strictly verboten on adult websites.

I've always wondered, is there no equivalent to Adwords that allows ads on porn sites? I don't necessarily peddling porn, just regular shit. So if someone posts about their trip to Barbados, the service could serve up some airline ticket vendors, etc.
If the front page was effective, why not put it back? I feel like an ass complaining about it because yes, I'm aware that this is a business and it costs money and ad revenue pays the bills. But, as a consumer and the target of the advertising, I think it's worthwhile for me to offer feedback and what I do and do not respond to. I apologize if I am coming off as an ingrate because I am not ungrateful in the least. But there are certain kinds of ads that effect me the opposite way that they're intended to do: pop-ups, outgrageously animated shit that can't be ignored, and ads that block the screen. And honest-to-God I'm trying to be helpful by mentioning it--because if it drives me away, I'm guessing it will drive some other people away. Except that they won't say why they left. I want to support ADT and help it prosper. I'm curious to see what some of the other options are.
Thank you. Unfortunately the state of the porn business is such that ADT is one or two steps away from life support. The revenue model of the site has always primarily been affiliate sales. Advertising was supplemental. Since there are about 50 people in the whole world that pay for porn these days affiliate sales aren't a viable revenue stream. So when a new advertiser approaches us with a 1 month experimental ad campaign we're a little more willing to at least try new things.
I despise third party adservers. I don't use them for business and I block them as a consumer. 9 out of 10 (if not more) times if a page gets blocked by a Firefox or Google malware warning the cause is a third party adserver serving up malware. Jacco
You might want to look into what IAFD did with the pop under ads. They aren't that bothersome since 9 of 10 times they seem to actually pop behind. I don't know if they are generating any revenue though. This idea might have too much work involved, but for those of us 50 that still buy our porn, something that comes up when you go on the price search page for a title, that recommends other titles that people who looked at that title also clicked through to the store page on (or if you can get the data from the store, what other titles are commonly bought with that title). Amazon does this and it has clued me in to releases I didn't know about and caused me to look into films I had never heard of, which sometimes results in additional purchases. Thank you. Taking the time to write a lucid explanation like that makes it go down a lot easier. Comcast would have fewer pissed off customers if they did more of that. But then, I never got the feeling that Comcast ever gave a shit about its customers. Not at the high decision-maker level.

Yes, thanks Drew. I saw the ad a couple of times yesterday and, since I'd never seen a pop-up on adt, I assumed it was malware and clicked control+f4 each time, which closed explorer. Then I stopped coming in until I got a chance to run malwarebytes this morning. I don't know enough about who controls a pop-up, and whether clicking the x to close it will do something dire, to be comfortable with them.
