In Hollywood they use ticket sales from the box office along with DVD/Blu-Ray sales. That's the industry standard. In the music biz, we have the billboard charts & they also rank the highest grossing tours every year. But what about in porn? I guess best selling/renting/downloaded/streaming videos would be a good starting point, right? But there are so many sites that sell porn that you would have to compile tons of data from ALL of these sites. Perhaps awards, too? I guess the AVN's are like the Oscars of porn, but there are also some other prestigious awards in the biz, like F.A.M.E, XBiz, etc. So number of awards/nominations? Is there any way to better 'standardize' these ratings? Or should we start looking at it more like there are "A-listers" in porn, just like in Hollywood? How could we gauge the popularity within the industry objectively? Thoughts? [Link] |

The products that are copied and sold illegally are the ones most likely to be popular. I don't know if any porn-makers are doing their research this way. But there is actually a lot of useful information they can find at pirated porn websites. These sites show statistics of how many views a video got and even ratings from viewers. And since users don't pay anything there, prices don't influence their choices. They choose purely according to their sex likes and dislikes. I'm not advocating piracy here. But the information is already out there, and I think it can be useful to find out what kind of films are popular. And nowadays there are some websites with GIF format clips that show less than a minute of some sex act. Ordinary users are making these clips and posting them on these websites. And I think they are useful for finding out what sex acts are currently most popular. All you need to do is google 'GIF porn', and you will find some such websites. In the first website that comes up in this search, the Blowjobs category has more posts than any other. The Tits category is second. And the Anal category is third. Which means that when it comes to penetrative sex, then anal sex is more popular than vaginal. |
