This is old news, but why hasn't this been discussed around here? I figured people would be debating if Mary Carey was good for porn or not, considering how some seem to think that she does nothing but help proliferate the stereotype of the fun-loving, ditzy, un-reliable pornstar. Recently, Holly Halston has made some inflammatory though arguably valid arguments against Mary. However, I guess that is fodder for gossip sites and the smarter people here know not to talk about something you can't possibly know both sides of. Perhaps then I should just shut up about it.

PS...No, Mary does not do gangbangs and I do not believe she does ir. In fact, she had only been doing boy/girl for a ridiculously short amount of time before she made her ill-fated run for public office.

A legitimage argument that one can make against something like "American Idol" is that it often catapults young artists into the spotlight and makes them a star when they are not deserving of such luxuries. What of the countless artists who toil away in obscurity because they may not have the right look or they do not have the right connections? How much should talent be weighed against credibility? Of course, on the other hand these people are just getting their big break and they can't help it if some singer/songwriter is going to have to wait 10 years for their break. Can you blame them for taking advantage of the situation, even if they don't come in with years of experience of frustrating failure.

Another example is wrestling. If you are into wrestling, you probably know all about the power ploys behind the scenes where aging veterans do all they can to remain on top and keep down young talent. Or at least they are accused of doing that. I'm sure this type of thing happens all the time.

That all being said, Mary had only been an adult film star for a rather short amount of time before all of this happened. Now she has been on Jay Leno and is discussed on The Best Damn Sports Show without paying her dues. Is that fair? Should we fault her for doing this publicity stunt? It has obviously worked. However, what must girls who have been in this business for years think when they see what Mary is doing? And how must they feel about the fact that this woman publically appears to be the embodiment of every stereotype and cliche of a pornstar, no doubt a detriment to any performer who takes this serious enough to know how much of a step back that is.

I am not trying to take either side with this issue. I am just saying that there is a lot to be said about Mary Carey that has gone unsaid. Maybe I am just vastly over-thinking the issue.

She came in 10th with more than 10,000 votes. In the vote totals I saw, her name is listed as Mary Cook, apparently her real name, which makes sense. I wonder how much better she might have done if people knew that was her. I don't know that there was any publicity for letting people know how to vote for "Mary Carey". Perhaps a Californian can answer that for us?
