I enjoy porn. But i find me spending more and more hours in it which can be used for other purposes. Which is disturbing. But when i watch porn, i feel like 'This is life'. Or 'This is the best thing life can offer'. So porn is a blessing. Your views?

My view is that you need to go outside. I am all for porn and I encourage people to be open minded and approach any situation that might be confusing with an interest in rational inquiry. If your interest in porn is preventing you from forming other relationships then it is a problem. If you can look it as a hobby then it isn't so much an issue. Can you talk to someone about your interests regarding porn, about why it fascinates you and what you draw from it, then do so. If you find yourself meeting people and not having anything to talk to them about but your interest in porn it may be time to reexamine yourself. Everyone (as far as I am concerned) has some interest (often a never ending interest) in all things sexual. Me, I will forever be fascinated by sex and that aspect of human interaction. I think it's healthy. I think you'll find or may already know that many people have a very casual interest in porn, less so then you. Nothing wrong with porn, most people have an interest in sexuality. Just don't get obsessed. Edited by - conquistador on 6/3/2008 11:50:08 PM
You can be crazy or ugly, but not both. 122 Posts 6/04

I've had that same feeling. Not with porn, but with hash, opium and sometimes, numerous shots of Chartreuse. You feel like you're touching the edge of heaven and, let's face it, with its depictions of perfect, frictionless sex, porn is a peek into a kind of paradise. Having said that, I've found porn to be a great motivator, to go out there, be engaged with the world and get a little paradise for myself.
But when we enjoy a little paradise, It become hard come down from there to the world to make the bar essentials for our aching body. That makes the dilemma.
Yes..No cure. Only learn to manage. Which is ugly and stupid. I think pornstars live a better life, they can fuck and get paid to it, so both needs are met.
Its a curse, women are a curse too, I wish I could stop lusting after them. The Muslims may have the right idea, keep them covered up, its starting to make more and more sense to me. ;)
A. If you find the amount of time you spend on porn disturbing, why do you do it?
B. My personal opinion is that human beings (men in particular) live for sex. Why do we do everything we do in life? So we can get some pussy. Right? You work hard so you can make enough money to make yourself comfortable. Whatever that is to you. If you think you should be doing other things besides watching porn, you're the only one who's stopping yourself. Personally, I spend about an hour a day actually watching porn. I easily spend more time eating than I do jacking off to porn. That's not a lot of time. Porn is a blessing. Everything in moderation, of course but we'd be fucking miserable without it. Imagine not being able to get laid and having no porn. The top of my head would blow off. YMMV Edited by - randomprecision on 6/4/2008 7:50:43 AM
The only way to live with addictive personality disorder I believe is having so many addictions that no one becomes an obsession. Balancing the diffirent kicks not to get hooked.

@Gunzo: Addictive Personality Disorder has not been a basis for addiction treatment for a long time. It's a nice excuse for people who think they are addicted to something but it isn't real. Porn isn't addictive. You might find this interesting.
@conquistador: That article was quite interesting and I agree that soon everyone can call themselves addicts. But I also find a danger in that, that people look down on people thinking it's all their own fault they ended up like severe drug addicts who doesn't even deserve respect (they don't deserve pity, but pretty much everyone deserves respect). And if the working, healthy, 'good people' think like that, why should the government do anything to help those who can't help themselves? Why not save us some money instead? Give it to people hurt in car accidents, everyone would love that... we don't know if that person is addicted, or depressed or whatever, it could be all faked you know. AA is from the depression, and I've been listening to an old AA recording, and it didn't mention God at all, spritiual yes but you can choose whatever god to believe in. It's kind of fucked up that you should 'give up on yourself' in order to be helped by some unvisible force... I believe everything can be addictive if you're a thrill seeker. Maybe that's not a mental disorder, but at least a personality trait that will affect ones life. Do you ride the most bad ass rollercoasters with a grin on your face? or do you scream like a little girl and wants off? Do you seek out the sickest porn you can find or do you stick with g/g? Psychologists kind of puts me off btw... they know they know... but can't prove very much...
If you think life in a long term, and you have to prove something in life, porn looks like a curse. It really reduces the energy that will go to the long term goals or so.. So its a distraction really. For instant gratification and pleasure at present moment, porn is gr8.
