Granted, a porn DVD probably doesn't warrant a running BTS director's commentary but what about a cast list and their filmographies? How about in-depth interviews with the stars? Some outtakes?

I recently watched the BTS from Slayer Unleashed III and I found the BTS with Jessica Darlin interesting. It helped shed some light on her work in tranny films and her past with Elegant.

The funny thing is that I watch my old Taylor St. Claire scenes from 99-02 and wish that they had been filmed today. That way, I could see extra footage or behind the scenes footage or even a somewhat rare interview with the woman. However, like Coyote22 said that would only be true if she worked for one of the companies that actually put effort into that area.

Sometimes behind the scenes footage kills the fantasy but the majority of the time I find it very interesting, like mini-documentaries. I have to think that eventually most of the companie will give in and start loading their DVDs with extras. I don't see what is taking them so long.

Funny. I saw "Anal Cumsumption 2" and "Fuel Injected" from Lethal Hardcore. These are both creampie lines, one anal and one vaginal. Both of the DVDs came with bts segments but they stayed far away from touching on the actual creampies. In both tapes, all of the creampies are all clearly faked. It's a joke. The word is that they substitued pina caladas for cum. However, they include a bts segment and still hide that.

Ultimately, you might be right about some companies wanting to hide something. However, it is still posible to do a BTS while hiding something. I think it is more a case of laziness.

They all have outstanding extras, and I love it. I don't complain.

Skeeter also has some amazing extra interviews in Ass Stretcher's 3. That was my first Skeeter movie, I have a few more on the way, but I expect them to be good also.

Of course, using a gangbang tape as an example, if there were two or three scenes on the tape, it might take a while to figure out which guys were in which scene.
I remember doing a cast list for Rocco's Reverse Gangbang, and it took almost a full workday to figure out which girls were which. I ended up sending .jpg's in an email to Speelie (and a couple other people here too).

As far as BTS - they can take anywhere between a couple hours and a day or so to edit. Sometimes in cases where the director is also the video cameraman and still guy, he may be the only person there other than talent. He may be doing a ton of things other than just standing around holding the camera.
It's been my experience from talking with fans that they want to see stuff that helps give a good impression of the girls, but don't want the fantasy ruined too much.

I really like BTS. It may just be me, but I just do.

I really like how Evil Angel does it, Putting an extra footage section that combines extra sex and BTS. They are great.

I saw a Booty Talk title from WCP this weekend. I kid you not, the extras was BTS (Behind The scenes. It was less than 20 seconds long. What made it even worse was the fact that it was the 20 seconds after the last cum shot were the girl waved goodbye.

Some people just want the title, other want to see the production come together. Personally, I want at least 2-2 1/2 hours of solid work on a DVD. If RLD can put 2 - 2.5 hours on a video cassette, surely other companies can do better with a DVD. I'd take 15 soild minutes of goos interviews, behind te scenes, or even trailers over 45 minutes of fluff and filler.

I heard your Tricia, and I know you know I'm a fan of many EA works, but if the content is good, and shot with intent, you don't need to edit for 2 days for a few extras. Also, any motion graphics aretist should be able to make fresh, inovative menus in under 30 minutes a piece. We are not talking Industrial Light & Magic here, just something better than a hobiest, and hobiest do good work.

Kudos to Brandon, Michael, RLD, Fuxion X, and Justin Slayers latest releases. It's quality that make extra good.

Personally I love bts. Done right it can sometimes be more interesting then the movie itself. I think most people wait till after they watch the movie to see the behind the scenes. I know I do.

When I was at Wicked this was a real problem. It takes more then a day or two to do these big epics. Euphoria took a month and a half just in editing of the “Bonus Material.” So this is a problem not only for the consumer but for the studio as well. They have a lot of $$$$ in the production of the movie, to wait around for a few months to recoup can be stressful. Plus it takes awhile to do any disc, authoring and replication alone can take a month and a half. So on big titles it takes even longer.

It was funny when we were shooting Buttman Comic presents we wore many hats. I shot about 80% of the bts on that show. Tricia shot the other and was really concerned on if we should shoot everything. I had told her “We only show what we want to show, just cuz we shoot it doesn’t mean it goes into the final product.”

I think we as producers have a responsibility not to give everything away. Bts should tell a story. Not kill the fantasy of the movie. Like if someone is having their period or is just not having a good day, or the chick shows up and looks like she got hit with an ugly stick or has been up all night. I tend not to show that type of stuff. I’ll wait till they are done up and look good. Who wants to see eye boogers on there fantasy girl. I like to keep it light, show some of what it takes to shoot a movie, and have some yucks thrown in to make ya laugh. It should be entertaining not depressing or boring.

In general I think the number one reasons are laziness and cheapness for most companies not doing BTS. It costs dough to do bts and make these extras. Guys to shoot it, guys to edit, encoders to author it, replicators to replicate it, all of this cost $$$$$$. In most cases it is cheaper just to make a movie slap it on a DVD-5 and call it a day. Tricia is so right, a cast list is nothing to do. So that is just PURE LAZINESS.

Now in Evil Angels case our #1 (This is only my opinion) reason for not having full blown BTS is disc space. We tend to focus on the movie itself. If you have a 2 ½ hour movie plus 30 minutes of fetish clips, you have just eaten up most of your disc space (DVD-9). We will not compromise the quality of our movies just to have bts for the sake of having it. Extra sex is important too so if there is room we’ll do it. Plus for the most part we don’t produce the shooting of their movies and don’t control what goes on a producers disc. We do however control the quality of the disc and won’t compromise the integrity of Evil Angel and the quality we are known for just to have a BTS. Jules lately has just been packing tons of sex on his discs and has actually started to really push doing double discs. Giving you (no pun intended) more bang for your buck.

I would always do my best to not make a girl look horrible, while still aiming to keep it real.

David did awesome DVDs at Wicked for the features he worked on. That's one of his huge strengths. Now that he's at Evil, I'm excited that he'll be able to do some of that here. Right now, he's working on editing down over 26 hours of BTS footage from Buttman Comics Presents... into a manageable amount, with a generalized structure to it, not just a lump of cuts. Then the editor of the movie will come in and take a few days to polish off the extras.

Luckily, one of David's other strengths is seeing the big picture of things and having a level head. Even though it's lots of fun (and hard work) to do completely tricked-out special features or a DVD, not every title warrants that. So he talks with the directors at Evil Angel about things that would be cool to see within the realm of what would fit with that title. Then the directors, who make the decisions of what goes on their discs, have at it.

David has a great creative mind, and hopefully Evil Angel will be able to provide him a few special projects each year that can challenge him and let him have some fun.

Coyote - Sometimes porn girls change their name, and we need to research to find out which name is the one they are CURRENTLY going with. For example, Jessica Fiorentino used to use the name Jessica Twain when she first started. We had some scenes of her that we were still releasing after she changed her name. Speelie helped me figure that out, and as a result, we used her current name on the boxcovers for those movies instead of her old one.
Another one is girls who add last names after they sign the model release. Example? Monica Sweetheart used to be Monic. Kelly Stafford used to be Kelly. Those are ones that to a porn person, are pretty well known, but there are some obscure ones that Speelie and Walter and Sbando and others are more aware of than me.

Another problem is sometimes figuring out which girl is which in a scene. Example - say there's a Christoph scene with a blonde, a brunette and a guy. I know that the girls in the scene have stage names of Sandra and Laura. But I dont know which girl is which. Sandra's real name according to her model release is Anna, and Laura's real name according to her model release is Dorothy. So I say, OK cool - which girl has an ID picture with blond hair? Answer - neither. In their passport pictures, they are both brunette. So then I say, OK, lets start looking at eye color. Shoot, they have the same color eyes. What about facial features? They look similar enough that I could make a wrong guess.
So I send a scan to Speelie and immediately he tells me that he's seen the blonde in two other movies. In one she was called Stephanie, but in the other she was called Sandra. So I look at the ID pictures again. I now notice that there is a very tiny birthmark near the left ear of the blonde "Sandra" in her scene, and in the ID picture of Anna in her passport pic.

Regarding cast lists, can you also make sure that the names used are the ones that are most common.

I know that this is a bug-a-boo area, and that the girls themselves write down a different name on the papers that they sign. It would certainly help someone that is trying to follow a favorite girl and the movies she has been in. In my experience, it has been particularly Hustler that has been lax in this area.

Let me give an example. Adriana Sage has been listed (by Hustler) as Charlotta and Sue before. I have never seen her with those names except at Hustler. (Also in the Sue thing, Eric Everhard was listed as Bob, or some such.)

I think it would be cool to have an action figure! I wasn't well enough known, but maybe if I can get off my ass and find the time and focus to get my directing stuff going, then it might be something that could work.

I am most likely going to get a Carnal Comics (www.demicomix.com) comic book though - when it gets ready to come out (not until 2005), I'll make sure to post a lot about it, because I'm very excited!
