I posted a similar topic a few days ago, but it got a less than enthusuastic response.
What I am talking about, is the possibility of buying porn, then ending up with something I don't like - meaning roughness / slapping / choking etc. I'm still new to all this, and don't want to buy a title if it ends up having stuff like: guy places foot on girls face (Taylor Raine in Erotica XXX (Digital Sin) - as he fucks her from behind - almost holding her head down - it was scary! This is not what I want to see, but know there's a few films out there that have it. I could handle the roughness of The Fashionistas, because it was more like a feature, and the women still looked like they were into it. Taylor Raine didn't look that way at all, and I felt for her - why should someone as stunning as her, do such scenes?

If I'm not mistaken, Taylor has done a few rough scenes, I would agree with Val here and say she's into it (as are many of the girls who do rough scenes). Not to mention the girls are typically "debriefed" on how the scene is to follow anyway, so they have a chance to back out - Although I'm sure there have been instances where they have been pressured into doing a rough scene...
The severity of rough sex is a broad one, I mean light choking and choking a girl until she's purple are different things. Personally I like rough sex in my personal life so I tend to enjoy it in my porn as well.
But that's just my thoughts

E_Guy,
May I make a suggestion.
Wait for some reviews so you can be more sure to get what you want. Yes, it means that you won't be the first one on the block to get a new DVD release, but it may help with the disappointments.
Well thanks for your replies. Now I understand that the level of roughness in a scene is a difficult line - but, I don't mind roughness as long as it's to the obvious enjoyment of the performers (not just the guy) - becasue then I enjoy the scene. If the girl doesn't seem to be enjoying it, or doesn't look like she is, then it's just witnessing simulated abuse, isn't it? There was none of this in Euro Angels Hardball 9 or 13, and nor in Lusty Legs - and they are all Gonzo films. I think it should be left out. Why do male performers need to look so in control? Isn't it more of a turn on when it's more enqual?
Some of it depends on the girl, and Taylor does seem to like being pushed. I haven't seen much of that from Digital Sin's movies lately, so you're probably pretty safe there. I avoid Simon Wolf's movies (if you search the forums you'll find plenty of people saying why), and I don't think you'll find much (if any) of it in Christoph's movies. If there is any in Christoph's movies I'm sure the girl is into it. From talking with him he has a great love of the talent, to the point that during the porn moratorium in the states a couple months ago he stopped shooting in Europe as well (and took a financial hit as well because of buying tickets to fly a few girls out to shoot with him). With that kind of care, I'll always give Christoph's stuff the benefit of the doubt.

Your question ties into a post I made regarding Melissa Lauren's scene in Unnatural Sex #12. How rough is TO rough even when the actress says she wants it even harder? It's a determination that only the buyer of the movie can make I guess.
Some thoughts on your question:
Luckily where I live movie rentals are just as popular as movie buying (sorry online retailers...cover your eyes.) If possible, rent the movies you like and buy later if they work for you. I don't know if the UK is big on rentals. Also as DenverDon suggested wait for the review to see if the content is rough or not.
You should get to know which companies and which series feature more of the "rough stuff." Depending on the availability of these titles in the UK, you can probably bet that the following series contains chocking or slapping:
Anything from JM Productions - Girlvert, Gag Factor, Violation series.
RLD - Throat Gaggers
Anabolic/Diabolic - Unnatural Sex
Platinum X - Can't recall the title..possisbly "I Like It Rough?"
Stuff produced by Mason.
Evil Angel - Joey Silvera releases will sometimes have scenes with gagging and rough deep-throating.
You can also predict the scene by which actress is doing it. Generally, BUT NOT EVERY TIME, the following girls are likely to give gagging, choking BJ scenes:
Ashley Blue Eva Angelica Elizabeth Lawrence Jamie Brooks Jamie Knight Cherry Poppins
Thanks a lot for your responses - I think I am now getting a clearer idea of what to avoid. Hoping Jules Jordan's stuff is my kind of thing, as his titles seem very popular and intriguing.

Christoph Clarkes generally doesn't have slapping or choking. I personally like them. There is plenty of anal, and some fetish in some of them, but not the rough sex you are describing.
You do have to put up with christoph, who performs in some and talks in quite a few. Some hate to see or hear him, it doesn't bother me.
let's just say, it's as simple as: what you find a turn on won't be the same as what turns other people on. why do some people like oranges instead of apples? you can't argue taste..
Weapons of Ass Destruction 2 is pretty good, and has fairly little of the rough stuff in it. The only face slapping is the last scene, it's mutual between Everhard and the actress Bella Marie, and it lasts about 15 seconds. There's no hair pulling that I recall, no whore/bitch/slut name-calling, and no choking, not even the fake-choking kind (where the man puts his hand on the woman's throat, but she can obviously still breathe because you can hear her moaning or talking.)
But the movie is pretty intense, not boring or tame, so there's plenty to keep you entertained. The performers all looked like they were having a good time, and Jules Jordan sounds like he was as well (to me he sounds like the guy-next-door.)
I would be careful about any scenes with Nacho Vidal, whatever the studio. I've yet to see him, even in a non-rough sex title, where he isn't repeatedly slapping the face of the actress, or doing the Foot-on-Her-Face sex position. Which is too bad, considering what a strong performer he is.
Nacho Vidal was in the scene I first described with Taylor Raine - I especially recall seeing track marks on his arms - or what looked like track marks - he must be one of the meanest looking performers out there - he certainly looked intimidating to poor Taylor, no matter how much she is 'into it'. I just don't get it.
What you saw as tracks on Nacho's arm were probably surgery marks. He's broken his arms multiple times, and I met him a couple years ago he had just had casts taken off both his forearms after breaking them jumping a bike.
As for the Christoph question, I don't think you can go wrong with any of the stuff he's done in the last year or so. Hardball from 19 on has been excellent and I've loved what I've seen of Beautiful Girls and Big Natural Tits.
