I recently purchased Ass for Days 5 from a member on the ADT forum. It looks a good flick starring the likes of Kristina Rose and Jenny Hendrix. It was produced in 2007. How time flies. But my point is not specifically about the content of the film per se but about the number of scenes.
You see this film had 6 scenes with 6 different women. Yes you heard me correctly, six scenes. And thinking back six or at worst five scenes was the norm for porn flicks at that time. So when and why did it all change?
If memory serves me correct it all started with the Ass Factory label in 2010 which began to feature four scenes but at a discount on the usual cost of a JJV DVD.
This was fine because it gave the consumer choice and I for one embraced the product. Since then however, slowly but surely, virtually every gonzo movie out there features only four scenes as standard.
I for one think that this is giving consumers less for their buck. The argument may go that the scenes are longer and so you are still getting the same bang for your buck, but I for one would rather watch five or six women with shorter scenes than four with slightly longer scenes. When there are only four scenes, it becomes particularly bad value for money if you don't like all the girls because you are effectively paying full price for only 2 or 3 scenes. If life is a box of chocolates then you prefer a box with more choice.
No wonder DVD is dying and is being replaced by digital downloads and web sites where the consumer is getting more choice and value for money.
I may be unfair to highlight Tushy.com as a modern example. They have a very successful website and are slowly bringing out DVDs showing scenes from their website. But why only four scenes on each disk, why not five or god forbid six?
I understand the economics but I think that consumers are being taken for a ride and off the top of my head I can't think of another entertainment sector where this is happening.
What do others think about this issue?

Since 2008 there has been a DVD standard going downhill. I like exceptions so I try to seek'em out. Whether it is a box of chocolate or not.

During the time when porn DVDs sold better and was more profitable they included more scenes. When the recession hit and free online porn caused sales to slump the people who produced porn made cuts to put out a cheaper product because the financial returns were smaller. They still need to make a profit to stay in business.

I cannot understand why anybody still buys DVDs. Digital downloads have a much higher resolution and you can choose from a great number of scenes and pick out what you like best. I have long-running subscriptions to a bunch of sites like Evil Angel, Hard X, Brazzers, Tushy and others and have to pay much less than back in the day when I still bought DVDs.

^ People (like me) still buy DVDs because we have no desire to join a bunch of different sites to see our fav pornstars. I like the output of some of the studios but most don't put out enough material I like to justify paying for a subscription. EVIL ANGEL puts out good stuff but I'm only interested in about 30% of their output. The same goes for BANGBROS. Same goes for WCP. I'd rather buy the occasional DVD with content I want to see than pay for a subscription for lots I don't care about seeing.

But if you look around, you can basically join most sites for the price of a DVD (or cheaper if you find a really good sale), download the scenes you want to see, then cancel. You don't have to stay a member. I can understand the people that buy DVDs because they like watching things on their TVs and don't feel like hooking up a PC to it or fiddling in their TV menu to find the option to play files, or the ones that just really like physical media, but DVDs have been a horrible value for like the past 5 years and it's only getting worse as time goes on (not to mention that we've reached the point now that nearly everything that gets released on DVD was released on the web first, so you're waiting to view the scenes too).

Several things...I do actually belong to a few sites and the main reason I'm a member of those sites is because they offer streaming/viewing through my ROKU. I'm one of those people who doesn't like watching anything longer than a few minutes on my computer. Also, there are sites I just wouldn't join because they don't have enough of what I like to justify a subscription. Plus, about 60% of my DVD purchases are for movies that are a few years old. Because of my subscription to VIDEOBOX I've been exposed to lots of pornstars from the past I've come to like and I can often buy DVDs with those girls for a few bucks through ADULTDVDMARKETPLACE as well as rock bottom prices on new stuff. I've been transitioning away from DVDs but I will probably still buy them to some extent for the forseeable future. Yes, they have their downsides...They take up space and I've probably only watched about 40% of my collection because so often I'm buying a DVD to see a specific girl or if I'm lucky 3. In a perfect world sites would be the way to go but they aren't quite what I want them to be yet.
