^ I recall reading somewhere long ago that porn directors and producers had a vision of porn movies and mainstream movies would converge at some point. Their idea was that at some point (which presumably they saw occurring in the 70s) would mean that we'd be off to the theatre today to watch the Elton John biopic and there would be hardcore sex in it. I'm glad that vision never came true. Gonzo was a godsend when it came on the scene.

Think Porn was at its best for me personally between 2005 and 2013. With the exception of LegalPorno, the last few years for me have been reasonably dull.

Companies like Jules Jordan, Kink, Evil Angel, Naughty America have slowed down, Brazzers is about the same although probably not as many blockbusters these days. Many other companies are fully dead now.

Then there's VR porn. Not sure why we can't have a VR Version of those scenes and a normal version for people that don't want to watch porn with goggles on.

Personally, onlyfans isn't helping either. Generally, girls don't do things on onlyfans that I'm interested in seeing and even if so then the camera work is poor. Now onlyfans charge you per month and you still have to pay for videos after that. Terrible system IMO but if girls are making money from it good on them.

^ Brazzers and Evil Angel are definitely past its heyday. For nostalgia purposes, the first half of this decade were my favorite years, however, I think today's porn is much better now in terms of the hotness of the women and all the accessible content in HD/4k quality. You have so many different models who can choose to shoot for mainstream companies or make their own content with snapchat, myfreecams, onlyfans, or manyvids. There's so much variety out there today, more than ever before. Twitter is the most powerful platform to interact with your favorite stars and get your voices heard, more so than 8+ years ago. I think it's a good thing and a bad thing at the same time depending on your preferences. There's many factors about 2011-2013 that I really miss in porn, but at the same time there's many factors in today's era that I really appreciate.

I have found that the best way to enjoy that old porn is just to find it online, buy it, whatever, download it into your computer and just re edit it. Just take the good stuff, because some of it is really great, and just keep the parts you want. Let's face it, jacking off to a crappy storyline with bad acting and terrible lighting is just no fun. I mean, what can you do, just stop while there is 15 minutes of dialogue?

I had tons of old VHS tapes that I bought back in the day, burned them to DVD, downloaded them into the computer, and edited them all down, then just threw the tapes away. Yeah, they aren't great quality, but there is no where online (that I have found) where you can buy quality ri rez versions of that old stuff anyway. The stuff just wasn't shot in good quality to begin with.

Sometimes I enjoy pulling them out and watching them. Kinda takes me back to the days of my youth, without having to fast forward through all the extraneous stuff.

I also like both of these performers.

In another tread, I mentioned that I saw Sue Nero live a few times.

sue-nero.jpeg

A friend of mine lived in an East Village studio tenement apartment. He said that Sue Nero used to live in the building. One time, he ran into her in the hall, reached out, groped her tits, and she reacted with a flirtatious giggle.

When I speak about the energy of the time, this is part of what I mean. It's not just that sexual debauchery was more fun before AIDS, but the zeitgeist showed up in other ways. The hope that porn and mainstream would merge was part of a larger fantasy at the time. With the end of Vietnam and Nixon's resignation, there was a belief in some circles that the counter-culture would become mainstream. No one saw Reagan or AIDS on the horizon.

Still the fantasy wasn't totally unfounded. According to Walter Isaacson's "The Innovators", there is a big counter-culture undercurrent in Silicon Valley. It's not just that Steve Jobs dropped acid, or that Google's dress code is, "You have to wear clothes". The engineers who developed the basic protocols for the internet developed a system of decentralized control of information flows. The engineers who developed the personal computer democratized computing. A lot of these engineers were hippies, some were anarchists, and all were influenced by the 60s and 70s counterculture.

So the 60s and 70s counter-culture is baked into personal computing and the internet. Decentralized information flow and personalized computing has made porn mainstream. But when the counter-culture becomes mainstream, it ceases to be counter-culture, and thereby loses some of its charm.

I keep reading waiting to hear specifics on why porn or certain porn studios aren't as good today as they were. So why exactly do you think EA and BRAZZERS aren't as good today as they were? Is it the talent? The direction? Are the sex acts different? I think some EVIL ANGEL directors may be better than some others or some may do stuff that's more in tune with what I like but overall I don't see how it's so much worse.

That was certainly wishful thinking on their part. There was a time when mainstream movies had more sex in them but I really don't think having actual sex in them was ever going to happen. Maybe a low budget art house film every now and then but it would never become the norm. Even less chance of it now because movies tend to try and target teens and family more often. And even if movies went in that direction most of, if not all porn directors/actors of that era wouldn't have made the transition because they weren't that good.

It seems to me that the 70s era of porn was made up of directors and actors who couldn't make it or get a break in mainstream and decided to go into porn. The results were porn movies that were trying to hard to be "real" movies with some sex scenes thrown in. Then you had performers who were actors trying to perform sex acts. That's why that type of porn went away so quickly. The audience wanted sex to be the dominate thing in the movies, not a story. You can still have a story but it should be plotted to service the sex. Even if the story is shallow and not well written it still works better for porn than having someone trying to make an involved story with the sex merely tossed in. I think porn really took off when it embraced that it was porn and stopped trying to be something "better".

I didn't post that but I agree with the poster so let me see if I can offer some arguments to support the post.

Let me first say that I think both suffer from the same affliction that almost every other sties/studios suffers from in that they found a formula that more or less works for them and they are unwilling to mess with it so their product gets more stagnant as the years go by. Of course the counter argument is that since the formula sort of works then why mess with it when what might come after it is a total mess.

Evil Angel is barely a shadow of it's past greatness and it's mostly all because of the people behind the camera as oppose to in front of it. These days EA is basically a video distributor for Mike Adriano's True Anal/Swallowed sites, Bryan Gozzling Hookup Hotshot site, Bam Vision site and Rocco Siffredi sites to name a few. It's kind of great for fans of those producers to only have to join one site and get the bulk of their work(with some editing) but then again it's not original content and anyone unwilling to wait the weeks it will take for EA to release those videos may simply join the producers site. In the case of content from Bryan Gozzling. There is some significant editing so I doubt most of his fans care about the EA version of his videos. You also have to consider that Lewood and Jonni Darkko to name a few have their own sites so again the content on EA is not exclusive to EA.

I also have to point out that so many of their titles are now dedicated to TS porn and if you aren't a fan then that is a shitload of videos that you will never look forward to or watch.

EA used to be the studio of John Stagliano, Joey Silvera, Chrisophe Clark, Belladonna, Greg Dark, Jack Malone, John Leslie and I could go on. Who took the torch of amazing porn that these people made? Can you point me to an EA producer who at least tries to emulate those great producers?

It's harder to point a finger at Brazzer stuff because I don't know who produces it so I can't say I wish they were still using this or that guy but I think part of the problem with Brazzer is that it's the SSDD affliction I wrote above in that it's basically Same Shit Different Day where the same scenarios keep coming up but with different permutation of the same performers. Let me pick just one Brazzer performer. Monique Alexander. She has 113 Brazzer videos of which 19 are anal and that's out of a total 26 career anal scenes. If you start to look at the women who work for Brazzer than you notice that it's fairly common for many of them to have 30 or videos. The only other place where you see similar numbers is on Legal Porno.

pat362 explained the Evil Angel problem in a nutshell. Back in the day you had so many producers exclusive to EA which gave you a lot of variety on the site that was brand new and only exclusive to that site, but with today's Evil Angel and maybe even the last couple years now, it has become a video distributor for scenes that were already released on other producers' sites. Like TrueAnal/Nympho/Swallowed, Bam Visions, or Rocco Siffredi, and the variety is much less. It's become very repetitive, and IMO the talent pool isn't the same as its heyday either. Outside of the Adriano scenes and Bam Visions which can already be seen on those sites first rather than EA, there's hardly anything to look forward to on EA anymore.

When it comes to Brazzers. Oh boy it's a LONG story. Brazzers has fallen even harder IMO. You might want to go to this thread I really think Brazzers FELL OFF hard to see everyone's opinion on the downfall of Brazzers. My quote is on that thread, and a lot of other users throughout the thread brought up a lot of good points.

No doubt this happens today. In fact, lots of B-list celebrities have tried to extend their 15-minutes of fame by making a sex tape.

The Rialto Report recently did a really good two part interview with Paul Thomas.

As many on this board, he had gotten his break, playing St. Peter the apostle in both the Broadway and film adaptations of Jesus Christ Superstar. Moreover, he was being groomed for a big career. He says there were two things that took him towards porn: 1) He wasn't willing to do the work needed to become a big star, and 2) He was a pervert with the ability to get wood almost on demand. (My favorite story in the whole interview is how he got out of the draft.)

This is part of what I was trying to communicate in my earlier post. There was a counter-culture element to Golden Age porn. Yes, some directors and producers may have had pretensions of being film-makers, but that didn't drive the whole era. Sexual mores were changing, and it seemed that the sexual revolution would bring porn into mainstream culture. (People forget that the people who made golden age porn were risking jail- not only for transporting it across state lines, but even in jurisdictions like New York.)

From this perspective, the Golden Age dreamers were right: Making porn is no longer a crime, almost everyone has watched porn, and ... I think this picture of the First Lady of the United States might help communicate how mainstream porn has become.

[mod edit: no pics of celebs since ADT recently got sued for having pics of celebs]

The problem was that they couldn't imagine the internet, and the only image of "mainstream" they had was Hollywood movies.

(Lest you think Trump is an exception, this picture of the former President might communicate how much the 60s and 70s counter culture has influenced current mainstream culture.)

Well said. I was a member of both of these sites in the mid-2010s and they really don't interest me much at all anymore. The biggest fall for a studio this decade had to be Elegant Angel. They were on FIRE coming into the decade, getting the hottest scenes for women like Tori Black, Alexis Texas, Rachel Starr, Asa Akira, Gracie Glam, Remy LaCroix and a host of others. Their Superstar Septembers in the late '00s and early '10s felt like the biggest deal in porn to me as a new fan at the time. Then came 2013-14, when the studio just about died and their main producers left (Mason to form her own studios, William H to Jules Jordan). It's recovered quite a bit since then, but it is a shell of what it once was.

Jules Jordan has also declined a bit, as he no longer shoots some of his best series (like Ass Worship). Also Chris Streams leaving means that great series like The Brother Load are no longer made.

On the flip side though, Lansky has really shined through in the late 2010s. His studios are the main ones I'm buying from now.

I think Brazzers is the only one who can give poeple 2 scenes daily, with different themes, different scenarios, good contract stars male and female, more than 1 good company in the same pool working all year long with big productions in America and Europe in general, and the only one that can be relevant in 10 years from here because they're trying new things like working with ALL girls around in porn industry, taking risks for that, all boys newbies too, changeing roles, stop labeling scenes in cateogries that aren't on that society needs today, they have a lot of feminine vision today, working with AMAZING female directors like Holly Randall, they involve the public lots across IG and Twitter in what they do and they also go out on "social events" with some adventures that mix porn stars and social situations, expensive expos & reality shows... basically Brazzers is the real and 1st really mainstream porn site and is still being.

I see many companies today doing literally the same thing 10 years ago and today the public change because the world is changing too, the porn is much more accepted and even more incorporated into the feminine point of view too, I believe that only the good business ones can take these changes and return them productive for their companies.

^ I think BRAZZERS does a great job at delivering the type of porn they do. They seem to get a bad rap in this forum with the thread complaining about them but as usual with many of the people who post on this site dismiss anything that isn't extreme hardcore as subpar porn. I think BRAZZERS does a particular type of porn and does it well. BRAZZERS isn't trying to be EVIL ANGEL or JULES JORDAN or LEGAL PORNO. BRAZZERS has most of the biggest girls in porn. It's very well shot. They put in the effort of doing some sort of scenario/story/plot to set up the sex instead of going the easy route of just having a girl in lingerie posing until a guy just appears out of nowhere and they start having sex. Plus they churn out a lot of content. I've never subscribed to their site but I've bought lots of their DVDs and like what I've seen of their content.

As far as EVIL ANGEL goes. I don't know if I see their current stuff as worse as much as I see it as different. Every director who puts out content through them have their own flavor and some I might gravitate to more because it's more in line with what I prefer. From what I've seen of them I don't see one era as being that much superior to another. But then again, I didn't watch much of the stuff from them during the actual time that it came out. So most of it I've watched in last few years along with the more current stuff. Quite frankly, for me I don't see the older stuff being that much if at all better at all than the current stuff. It all comes down directors and the girls.

^^You do know that Brazzer's parent company is one of the biggest content thieves on the planet and that's why they can afford to sign performers to contracts and why they can upload two scenes a day. Brazzer is as guilty as any other company alive a decade ago because they do the exact same thing now than they did 10 years ago. It's just that the type of porn that Brazzer does is scenario driven as opposed to pure gonzo.

^I may not like many of Brazzer scenes but I give them points for being one of the few porn studios to still be doing scenario driven porn and that is impressive in an era where gonzo is king. Of course one of the reasons they can still do scenario driven porn is that they have a lot more dirty money to play with.

Evil Angel, Jules and most other studios are primarily gonzo in nature and as I mentioned above. They can't really be compared to Brazzer because of that. Naughty America and Reality Kings are studios that can be compared to Brazzer but since Mindgeek owns RK than they probably have access to some of that dirty money. I don't think NA has and that's why they struggle to survive.

I'm very sure that the general point of view here doesn't reflect the reality at all because in social media they don't think the same about Brazzers, in fact it's one of the few official porn sites verified with LOTS of followers, nor in the other 3 porn blogs in which I comment or visit daily, only in this one...
And it's true what you say here, I think the very best of old school porn you can only see everyday in Brazzers today: Madison Ivy, Monique Alexander, Rachel Starr, Ava Addams, Lisa Ann, Krissy Lynn, Jennifer White, AJ Applegate, Kagney Linn Carter, Phoenix Marie, Diamond Jackson, Sarah Vandella, Chanel Preston, Kendra Lust are just a few examples and actresses who work for them always and the best, not even by contract just because they want it, other companies would die for having them and they cann't...

^ To be fair Brazzers has had a Twitter account since 2009, so it's expected to have the most Twitter followers of all the porn companies, and Brazzers' popularity goes back well over a decade ago. It's been reiterated on here multiple times that Brazzers today is not the same as it was yesterday. We're complaining about Brazzers here in 2019 (or recent years), not 10 years ago, not even 5 years ago. There was a way better variety not long ago. Anyways, it's kinda pointless for me to list all the issues with Brazzers when the "I really think Brazzers FELL OFF hard" thread is out there with tons of good reasons out there that can't be denied.

I'm sure some people have different legit reasons for saying BRAZZERS isn't as good as it once was but to be honest when I read the thread complaining about BRAZZERS the majority of the ones I read had to do with the scenes not being as hardcore and extreme as they once were. Many were complaining about one particular series that they stopping shooting and offering the series (I can't remember the name right now). And I sorta remember some people having other problems with BRAZZERS but I saw them as minor nit-picky stuff and the many people who like to complain about porn in general just jumped on the complaining bandwagon in that thread. That what I got from reading the thread early on and I haven't read much of it since. I totally understand some people being upset about the owners of BRAZZERS being less than ethical but I'm talking about the actual quality of scenes. Maybe they have gone down quality but I don't see much difference in their current output vs their older stuff. I've seen plenty of older BRAZZERS shot stuff that isn't nearly as good the current stuff I've seen.

BTW...the name of the BRAZZERS series that I was referring to that went away that people were bitching about I think was called PORNSTAR PUNISHMENT.

That I'm maybe new in this blog doesn't mean that I have not been watching porn for years (I visited this forum without commenting for years, literally) I have been consuming porn for years like many of you here too, and I know what I'm talking about, because I saw porn 10 years ago, from 5 years ago or today in day, and face that you don't even need that because today you can also see scenes from 10 years ago and compare them so... I can also create a thread that speaks well of Brazzers if I want and maybe it has positive comments too, some of you act like a haters sometimes, who are angry at Brazzers for no solid reason btw, always have silly excuses as "the camera angle wasn't good" "too bad light" "she doesn't do anal" "she doesn't take off all the clothes during sex" and I don't see that same being said when other companies do it too, it's like as you don't have anything relevat to say you choose to aim for less... So when when I don't see objectivity it sounds like a lack of support to say something, it's just another opinion, let's say, but no facts here...

If you intend to continue producing the same thing that you did 10 years ago there is a part that you lose: the global cultural change, neither the porn today is the same nor the people that watch porn TODAY is the same, that is the part that only the big ones in business know how to see and take advantage of themselves for that...

That is super common here, if there is an GBB scene but the girl doesn't do DP in Brazzers is a trash but if she does it in Jules Jordan it's super fine, if the girl doesn't take off all the clothes in Brazzers they are scammers because the pictures show us another thing but if the same happens in Jules Jordan ups they don't have anything to say, if the scenes are literally the same over the years like with Mike Adriano is a genius but if they do it in Brazzers it's wasting the time watching. If the girl doesn't work in "ir" scenes is because Brazzers doesn't want those now if they don't do it in Lansky is because she decides not to shoot that, as if because they work for Brazzers they aren't independent of deciding what to do or not, if I had I put everything I think about some other companies (and that the criticism in social media are many) for Jules Jordan, Adriano, Vixen, Blacked would be like them but I prefer not to do it and only comment if I have something to contribute, for being anoher more "hater" I prefer not to comment, the truth ...
"Brazzers only works with bombshell or plastic girls" like if the rest don't xd xd or as if the porn were just being a natural actress who looks more like a VS angel... I mean Abella Danger, Kimmy Granger, Desiree Dulce, Molly Stewart or Katana Kombat as contract stars and I'm not seeing that with all them for example, sure they don't even consume Brazzers, but there's a need to speak bad of them anyways...

For me, this raises two related questions:

1) How do people feel about the large amount of free porn out there? On the one hand, it is good for the consumer, yet it undermines the economics of the industry.

2) If free porn undermines the economics, then how has the porn industry maintained reasonable production quality?

My thoughts:

1) I got no problem with free porn, as long as the industry can continue to function.

That's not to say that I'm OK with high tech companies using unfair practices to kill off their competition, but Mindgeek is an ant in the tech world. And they are not the first tech company to establish a monopoly by offering free online services. If Facebook's cryptocurrency project succeeds, my guess is "Libra" will start to gain acceptance in the porn world. If so, then Mindgeek will live or die depending on Facebook's whims.

Even if Mindgeek goes bankrupt, and big tech doesn't want to soil its hands, I expect there will continue to be enough money in porn to pay for reasonable production quality. The problem, as with any monopoly, is whether independent businesses can do well in the porn industry. And when independent businesses struggle, the whole society becomes less free.

2) I don't want to make any accusations against anyone who is currently in the industry. But I have a sense that a lot of the money in the "Golden Era" was laundered mob money. According to the Roger Ebert:

Since the mob owned most of the porn theaters in the pre-video days and inflated box-office receipts as a way of laundering income from drugs and prostitution, it is likely, in fact, that "Deep Throat" did not really gross $600 million, although that might have been the box-office tally.

If a particular company somehow maintained consistently high quality production quality, and had a series of incredibly hot Eastern European girls on contract, I would wonder if that company was maybe laundering Eastern European mob money. (Especially if it were a US-chartered corporation and the key people involved in the production were US-based.)

So I suspect there have always been people looking to launder money through porn, and I doubt that the industry has ever been completely self-sustaining.

I know this comes across as my saying "Free porn is better than porn you have to pay for." But this connects back to what I was saying before about the counter-culture element in Golden Age porn. The mobsters who ran the porn theaters and financed the movies were independent businessmen. The mainstreaming of porn is also the corporatization of it: Even the criminals are rich multinational criminals.

I visit this site and read a few of the threads to keep abreast of what's happening in porn but I actually don't relate with the mindset of many people who post here. Many people here have a very narrow view on what "good porn" is. And that's fine because you like what you like but many fans here can't seem to understand that studios aren't trying to make their content specifically for them. Not everyone likes the same things. If a person likes rough anal porn maybe they should go to EVIL ANGEL and accept BRAZZERS won't always give them what they want. If rimming isn't something they want to see maybe instead of constantly complaining about BLACKEDRAW doing it so often maybe it's time for that person to move on. If a person doesn't like the "family" and "incest" themes of NEW SENSATIONS or whoever, there are thousands of options out there that don't do that type of porn. If you don't like JULES JORDAN doing IR so often there's no need to hang around and bitch about it nonstop when you can just move on. If a girl doesn't want to do anal why not accept it watch one of the ten thousand other girls that do?

BRAZZERS makes good porn. DIGITAL PLAYGROUND makes good porn. NAUGHTY AMERICA makes good porn. Do any of them make the type of porn that everyone likes? Nope. Just because a company doesn't the type of porn a person likes doesn't mean their content is bad. It just means that person doesn't like it. Not everyone want to see painful anal. Not everyone wants to watch IR. Everyone isn't into 12 man gangbangs. A girl isn't bad performer because she doesn't do anal.

There are 2 separate issues here. Do fans resent a site that doesn't give them exactly what they want? Absolutely, just spend some time reading the threads here. Safe to say for some Brazzers died the day they wiped Pornstar Punishment scenes from their catalogue. The 2nd issue relates to the title of this thread. Is "porn so much better now" when major companies like Evil Angel/Elegant Angel have clearly deteriorated over the last decade and a half? Does the rise of the Lansky sites mitigate the fall off elsewhere? You can debate this forever, it just comes down to personal taste. What is so great today is the quantity of content & how relatively easy it is to view it. For those of us old enough to remember the "golden age", that's the great advance.

I get that some people miss PORNSTAR PUNISHMENT and that was perhaps the reason they liked the site before. What I have problem with is that those people dismiss the rest of their output since as "shit" or saying it suddenly went to hell since that series went away. Highly debatable. I've seen scenes from them from 5 or 6 years ago and I've seen the more recent stuff. I'm sure there are some older gems from the past but overall the newer stuff is much better from technical and performance standpoint from what I've seen. Maybe a person doesn't like particular performers or directors but overall I don't see a drop in quality overall. I guess I should also point out I don't judge "quality" on whether a scene has anal in it.
ELEGANT ANGEL is a different company/studio now than it was at it's beginning. I've seen old DVDs/scenes of when they shot a completely different kind of content. I can see people preferring that style over what they're doing now. I personally just see it as something different. Both genres have their appeal. I can't say I think one is more automatically appealing over the other overall. I think Lansky puts out a quality product. I think the main reason Lansky's stuff gets so much flack is mostly because it's the hot thing at the moment and that really bothers the people who his stuff doesn't appeal to.

^ Elegant Angel died off for me when they stopped updates to the old site (which was around 2016) and changed the entire format to the new site we see now. When Mason was apart of that company before Hard-X started, they were killing it.

That sounds about right. I actually never thought about this for awhile. The moment I started paying attention to the Hard-X sites was around the same time I felt like Elegant Angel was losing it, but once they discontinued the old site in 2016 it was completely done. Lansky has been the top producer in the industry lately and I'm appreciating every moment of it.

Winning awards doesn't mean absolutely anything, tbh... And much less if we're talking about AVN ones for certain reasons, all the time it's same people winning same awards...

Have to say that a fact about him is, now I'm seeing suddenly some changes in that company "concepts" and you can see more and more girls debuting than never , that maybe you could have thought it's never goona happen like Lela Star, Karmen Karma or Katrina Jade and suddenly you read many "Brazzers in Vixen now" comments in social media, not curious, right?
