They jailed Max for being a total asshole to most of the girls in his 'movies'. I find no moral dilemma in this case, he deserved it. It's great that girls now hopefully know that his name is associated with women abuse.

This is just IMO but porn is slightly fake, its a fantasy the situations you see just wouldnt happen in real life. Or the situations you see are not what they seem on camera, I have seen girls slapped and punched and it looks hard, but if you look carefully some of it mostly mock. Some of girls are probably a bit older than they look too, but they are used because they give that younger fresher look. Any guy who just came up to a woman and whipped his dick out, would find himself in a lot of trouble not with just the woman but with the law as well.
I read an interview with Penny Porsche (I think it was her) where she said a 30-minute video, took over 8 hours to shoot, and by the end of the day, she had welts on her ass because of the slapping scenes. After watching BTS of a porn shoot for the first time on dvd I would have to say its more fake than real. The penetrations and oral are real enough but they are staged.
Agreed porn is as about as real as a television drama, comedy or movie. The girls act their part as does the guys and dress up a certain way to fulfil their parts.

Men gets get turn on more easy when viewing sex because they are less fussy than us women. Women want to see real sex and that's one of the reasons women don't watch porn. Gotta disagree with this strongly, everything you say about the performer taking on a persona and maintaining the fantasy and although you don't use the term I believe what you're getting at is the idea of branding, is true. But there are real world reasons to not use real names. Performers families can lose jobs, be shunned at church, etc because of their decision not to mention stalkers.
If everyone saw some of the stuff moderators had to clean up from stalkers who have come here you would understand this reason alone is enough not to allow real names.
Thanks for reviving this thread. It's important. I hate that word, "fake." It is so insulting to performers. I cringe when people say WWE is "fake." God. Just wear a shirt that says you have no idea how media forms work and you're too judgmental to bother to learn the language. With porn, and those that think what they see is an organic surprise meet-up, or who are shocked to discover it's "fake," it seems more like a willing (or ignorant) belief in women and men being and doing whatever they hope is real.
Porn is a scripted and choreographed performance. It isn't real nor is it fake. It is a performance. Is sex actually happening? Yes. Is it occurring as it naturally would if you were having sex with someone? No.
While I will hopefully remain committed to the contrarian provocative tendencies that prompted me to write the paragraph quoted, I neverthess agree with BlackSix and thank him for calling me out. As usual he raises valid and, dare I say it, amusing points. I'm sure it does happen more often than you'd think, but the idea of a pornstar* going to church...I think you know where I'm going with this (Dana or Jackie)... * as opposed to the woman behind the 'brand' who believes in the Christian God and expresses her faith conventionally. Gianna was a great performer who from all indications enjoyed her work but I'm sure she was 'faking' it just as any actor is 'faking' it in a film. I remember at the end of one scene she was looking at the camera all sexy and cumstained, 'broke character' and laughed and joked with the camera man and then said something like 'have to make it porno' and switched right back to her sexy looks.
^ Indeed. Plus, slapping the shit out of Steve Holmes when he took it too far. Seeing them break kayfabe and then wordlessly negotiate back into the porn performance is a lesson in how improvised performance works. The word "fake" needs to be eradicated from discussions of performance. There is a far more sophisticated vocabulary that properly reflects how these media forms function.
