Hi, Do any of you ever feel like you've watched so much porn that it's affected your ability to be affectionate in reality and made you a bit jaded? Has it made you more aggresive and in turn make you demand more from your partner? I wonder if there is a Dirk Diggler syndrome that we have yet to discover....

Absolutely. Now when I meet an attractive woman, I don't find myself wondering if she'll make it with me, I wonder if she'll suck the dick out of her ass. Does that qualify as jaded or deluded?
I think I am afflicted with this dirk diggler syndrome in some ways... it really makes me want to stop watching porn.
I also find my sexlife influenced by some things I see in porn. I need to realize that these women are either acting or of a whole different ilk. Most women I've met don't want it real rough, they like it soft and passionate with a lot of kissing, two things you never really see in porn or if you do, they kiss and slobber all over themselves.

Good point. Thinking about that myself now and then.
I've all the signs of this 'Dirk Diggler syndrome'. Living in a settled relation dampens the risk of getting Dirk Diggler's, I think (regardless of how many porns you watch). So having grown into a situation of having a couple of 'sex+ relations' without having a 'complete', settled relation for years, is as much as a reason for getting Dirk Diggler's as watching countless porn movies. Or so I thought (make belief ?).
On the other hand however, I learned of all possible hurting effects of male's aggressiveness and near impossible demands on girls at that same time (other situations though). This in turn had made me look towards my 'relationships' in a more realistic manner. Twisted I am, I still like my porn raw and dirty (it's maybe virtual sex for me, but doesn't it need the act in real live, with girls paid, to be taped? hmm).
In effect I think this 'Dirk Diggler syndrome' can be healed by keeping in touch with reality.

I started watching as a kid, well before I became sexually active. Porn never gave me particular expectations of women and I guess I can chalk it up to being raised right that I knew what happened in porn scenarios was fictional.. Well, either that or I took the time to read the little disclaimers :P
Anyway... when I first started to explore, I was naturally curious about what I had seen in videos and how it might/might not apply to my own sex life. I was shocked to find that most of the girls I messed around with were almost up for anything, probably because I'm a laid back dude and never make a girl feel pressured.
Now I'm married and my wife is often the first person to say "Put in a nasty dvd."
Guess I just got lucky...?

Hi, Thanks for your input, guys. It's funny, the only replies (so far) have come from people with a low post count. I believe that Dirk Digglers syndrome affects a lot of people and there is a certain amount of denial taking place especially amongst seasoned posters/porn fans. I wonder if this will continue to be ignored or if we'll see some posts by 'regulars'. Porn stars, especially male, often complain about the inability to sustain a healthy relationship outside of porn. Why would it be any different for the hardcore fan?
I had a dirty mind before I ever watched porn. A natural born deviant. I'm also happily married and like porn. And Dirk Nowitzki is awesome. I don't know of this other Dirk though.
I have a high post count. I don't have whatever this Dirk Diggler guy has, so don't count on getting your name in psychology texts just yet.Where do you get this guff? Whatever, the answer is "Because we're not having sex with other women." Duh.

Duh? Hmm, you have a lot of anger inside of you. I'm not trying to instigate anything here, but I suggest you take a break, count to ten slowly, then continue to proceed with your very important moderator duties. I guess the whole issue rubs you the wrong way. Interesting.
For future reference, an ad hominem attack is a pretty weak defense against ridicule. It's generally accepted that ignoring ridicule is the best response, unless you think you can muster a Socratic defense. Or... you could try actual facts, but I'm afraid mosts ADT'ers won't consider Boogie Nights to be a documentary.

In all actuality I'd call it bono-ONE syndrome or any other poster with a high count and what seems to be a over zealous interest in the industry and have possible long-term affects on the individual (this is not a swipe at bono-ONE, by the way), but I'm not here to offend people or get kicked off. You can call it whatever you like, I'm just trying to create discussion. You should be a bit more easy going. It's just a message board and it's not nearly as important as being hall monitor so take it easy.
1. You can certainly posit whatever you want, but when you start naming syndromes it's clear that you've already come to your conclusion.
2. When you talk about over-zealous interest you're making a value judgement - not a good thing for a researcher.
3. As already stated, porn hasn't made me jaded. I guess I'm not surprised you ignored that fact in pursuit of your pet theory: "I believe that Dirk Digglers syndrome affects a lot of people and there is a certain amount of denial taking place especially amongst seasoned posters/porn fans."
4. "I'm just trying to create discussion."
"I'm right and anybody who disagrees is in denial" is not the basis for a discussion.
Not one bit. I've always had the ability to separate fantasy from reality.

For the record, I'm not a 'researcher', I just pretend to be one on the internet. It should also be noted that this is not a clinical study, so Hardware please relax take a deep breath and listen to some Olivia Newton-John and relax. Eat a cheese sandwich or something. Anyway, I don't want anybody here to think I'm painting porn fans as addicts or anything of the sort. All I'm asking is if porn has had an affect in your real life experiences. Sometimes too much of something, even a 'good' thing, can be bad.
Firstly, watching porn makes me jaded when watching more porn. Yet I have no interest in turning up the volume to watch throat-fucking, slapping, gagging and choking, endless ass-to-mouth and so forth. I just stopped watching porn for the most part outside of reviewing. I still participate here, though.
It hasn't made me jaded or more aggressive IRL. There you go, a serious answer.
Now, if you could stop being a smartarse, it'd be wonderful. Thanks.
You know Archibald, despite your denials, you've done nothing in this thread but put down people who watch porn, try to make me the bad guy for calling you on your bullshit declarations and evade any meaningful discussion. Go troll somewhere else.
