Do any of you that frequent this board view your porn from your local cable/satellite provider? I'd like to get some comments about what people find appealing/unappealing about watching porn this way. This is regardless of whether you watch us (Hustler), Playboy, TEN, etc. I don't see this discussed often on here and I'm curious for obvious reasons.

the 'porn' channels in australia are softcore, with no x content whatsoever. i would never, ever pay to watch that shit.

Too costly and generally tame product.. It just is not worth it.
If you are living with someone, they will see it in the the billing.
Probably OK for the hotel room crowd, the person living alone who does not access to a good video store or because of his profession is too scared to frequent the adult section of a video store/sex shop.

If you were knew that the movie was unedited (aside from being edited for time constraints), would that make you more likely to purchase the movie on cable? Or would you still prefer your normal buying pattern?

Knowing that the film was edited, either to make it the softcore porn (which as far as I know is the only kind offered on cable), or for time restraints I personally find unacceptable. The cost is already too high, imo, and to be "overpaying" for not even the movie in its entirety would make it a double no... no, a HELL NO!!
There are now too many options of getting porn that getting it through the cable system is just obsolete, imo. And cable bills are fairly high as it is, adding porn to the bill... no thanks. For myself, every time I ever purchased porn through cable it was a letdown.

Obviously I can't speak for many places abroad, but nowadays most large cable or satellite operators have hardcore available to their customers, typically in their on demand offerings but also in some cases on pay per view. The extent of what they show (cumshots, anal, etc) depends on the individual operator.

the price is too high. close to some sale dvds or some subscription sites. and the trailers even cost money on my provider. then even in your dvr. if i just bought the dvd or ordered it from an online store, i'd have it forever. and web paysites and megasites with instant access are just as easy as pay-per-view. if it was cheaper or i could keep it on my dvr as long as i want, it would be a closer comparison. especially since the company is protected better against piracy too right? id guess that makes it a win win. regular movies expire on directv too...that sucks still i think, but at least they only cost a couple bucks...

Tough to know if a certain hc movie was edited or not. You would have to compare it to the original DVD.
You would have to watch a certain amount of movies (expensive proposition) before you got the jist of how they tinker with a movie. Large companies make several versions of a movie for the kind of markets that buy their product. Anals may be missing, as well as DP or cum shots. Cum shots are obviously easier to detect as scenes just come to a jarrring stop, but anals and DP are harder to deteremine whether they have been edited unless you look very closely and do some research on line or actually check out the DVD for an after-the-fact checking purpose.
But the type of product (rather tame and for the most part plot driven and couple oriented) is just too expensive. For the same amount of money (generally $10!!) you could easily rent out 2-3 videos from your local store (of YOUR choice, rathr than what they are prepared to offer you).
So even if I knew I was getting an unedited movie, the price and type of product make it very unappealing to order it through cable/satellite. The large companies cater their product and catalogue via this type of channel and they make a lot of money from what I understand.

the 'porn' channel is maybe $20 a month... if that were x rated i would've subscribed years ago and wouldn't have left the house.

I was disappointed by the porn offerings of my local (only) cable provider---Comcast in the Boston area. The only "channel" subscription is Playboy TV----and I think Playboy does a respectable job. However, the "channel" is On Demand only, the content is slim, and the On Demand interface is frustrating. There is too much menu hopping involved for what the content is---majority short clips of roughly 5 minutes.
The rest of the pay per view offerings are OK, but they're expensive and edited. I won't waste my money on them.
I would subscribe to one, or both, of the following:
- A REAL channel. One that I flip to and watch and look at programming guide to see what's on. Sexy, edgy content involving porn sitcoms, reality shows, porn talk shows, some movies.
- A porn movie channel, flat fee, similar to HBO, where I turn on the channel and a movie is playing.
In all cases, there must be no censorship. What I find in a Hustler DVD or magazine should be what I see on the TV.
What's your market research showing?

I should add, I have hooked up an inexpensive computer to my flat screen TV and have invested in a wireless keyboard and mouse. With this, I am able to download and watch videos from websites I subscribe to. I can even get HD content from a number of sites---no need for Blu-Ray. My wife is less keen on dealing with the laptop/TV however.

Unfortunately the individual cable/satellite providers (Comcast, Cox, DirecTV etc.) determine what the editing standards are for their adult content providers. If you don't want to edit, then they just won't carry you. That won't change until there is substantial consumer pressure to increase their "heat" levels, editing-wise, as well as a lessening of fear related to potential government obscenity prosecution. (The large amount of attention that Tucson Comcast porn Super Bowl incident has received is bad news for porn on Comcast).
I think the general feeling regarding porn channels with original programming is they don't really make their money back. Only PlayboyTV knows for sure, though.

Years ago I used to have the PLAYBOY channel 24/7 on my cable because they offered it up like the other movie channels and I think I paid about 12 bucks a month. After a few years they only had programming that started at 10 pm. Later it became a pay per view where you could only buy a block of it for a night. The stuff PLAYBOY offered was edited hardcore stuff that didn't show any insertions or erections. It was about on par with what they show today on late night cable.
I haven't seen a porn on cable in loooong awhile. So I'm going by bits and pieces I've heard and might be out of date or totally wrong....
As many have pointed out it's just too expensive. I think the only way I'd even consider doing the ppv thing these days is if someone offered a block of 3 or 4 totally uncut movies for under 20 bucks. Or make the pricing about 5 bucks per movie. They don't need to be new or current movies. Just offer some good stuff. Do them in theme blocks. Have a block of features. Have a block of MILF movies. Have a block of interracial. Have a block of bubble butts. Etc., etc... Give me a free non hardcore preview channel to show me what's being offered that day/night and upcoming stuff.
From what I understand the current business model just seems to be out to exploit the consumer. Maybe it works fine for hotels and people who can't get porn any other way but the price is just too high for the amount of entertaiment if the price is what I'm thinking it is for an edited movie.

Oh yeah, one more comment. I have no idea what they're doing now but back in the day the most annoying thing about the PLAYBOY channel was that they refused to give into the fact that they were a porn channel. I hated that they used to waste so much time with original shows and such and didn't just play movies. Most of that stuff was lame programming in an attempt to try and be above a typical porn channel but I can't believe that anyone liked any of that stuff more than the movies.

My local cable company charges 4 to 5 dollars for a mainstream PPV movie, but 10 to 12 for an adult one - that's CRAZY. Especially when I can go to an online VOD site and either buy or get a bunch of streaming minutes for the same price.
If someone would provide a 24-hour adult pay channel for the price of what HBO and SHOWTIME charge, I'd subscibe, but I really have no desire to pay those kind of prices for a single viewing or block of time.

That is exactly the point I was trying to make in my previous posts. The cable/satellite broadcast content is usually very tame, and to a great extent edited down. So you are getting a watered down hc movie for $10-12 (vs $5 for a mainstreal movie). It makes no economic sense when you can buy a slightly older DVD release for the same price or rent 2-3 titles at your local video shop. If you lived way out in the bush and had no access to a decent video store, then perhaps I would consider it as a last resort, otherwise you are not getting good value for what you are spending.
I suppose there are so many people in the pie (the original supplier, the cable/satellite distributor, etc) and each one of them wants a piece. At the end it is the consumer that is stuck with the large obscene cost. On top of that there are no free preview barker channel to see whether the movie being offered (unlike the mainstream PPV movies) is to your liking or not, and on occasion the name of the movie has been retitled. That is not how porn movies should be offered. They do not appear to have changed this basic formula since the beginning. On one side, the cable/satellite provider wants to tell you they are offering all kinds of channels including the naughty "adult" channels, but the adult is only pay per view, you don't know what is being offered or whether it is edited (they either don't know know of do not want to tell you), and you discovere it is really tame.
Even if the content is unedited, which in my view will never be, it makes no economic sense to the regular savvy pornofile.

Subscribed to Xstacy channel for about six or seven years.
Films are full on hardcore. Editing was for time not content. Very long films
like Jules Jordan for example were cut WAY down.
Dropped subscription in favor of spending money on DVD's.
Monthly rate is up to somewhere around $29 with DISH Network.

The problem with the cable is the same as with lots of retailers that sell porn. They have a business model that worked well in the past but refuse to adjust the current times. The thinking that porn is such a hard thing to get your hands on you'll pay a premium price to get it. That may have been true in the past but it's a silly notion now. Cable and some retail stores exploit the people who didn't have other avenues to get porn and in the case of cable, people who don't want to own porn. But with the net at our disposale to buy porn at a much cheaper price or to watch it without having tapes or DVDs lying around it's almost foolish to turn to cable or retailers to get or see porn....at their prices.
I would love to be able to able to walk into a retail store or have a cable channel where I could buy a DVD or watch a movie at a decent price and not have to get it online. I'd rather pay a few bucks extra just to be able get what I want right then and not have to wait or pay shipping or deal with any problems that may arise. I'd be willing to pay a few bucks more for that but not double the price as things are now.

Speaking of porn in hotel rooms, I was shocked to find that there was a porn channel in a hotel I stayed at in Prague, for no additional charge. I think it was one or two channels, and it was full unedited HC. The thing is it wasn't blocked and you didn't have to call down and order it. Europeans have a very different view of such things.

Back in the 80s, porn was popular on cable. Anyone remember ON TV? Also, some other ones that i can't recall.

It may have been a pirated channel or maybe they figure they can afford to give tourists a freebe and make your stay a lot more interesting. Considering the amount of porn that is shot over there, it should not sound that surprising. I mean as a tourist you can get CNN and other US channels in Cuban hotels, but the locals can't get to see it.

In the Dallas area Verzion has the two Playboy channels for around $25 a month. Except for the porn movies you cam forget about the Spanish Playboy. The softcore stuff must come from South America. Very boring. Have cancelled the Playboys channels twice until recently they stopped showing only Vivid and broaded out to all other companies. Around 20 or so new HC movies a month. The cum scenes and anal are censored. Have Hustler, Spice and others available but are $19 dollars for one movie. Don't know if it is censored or not. Most of the game shows etc. are boring but a new show called Money Talks has a woman woring at her job offered money ie $500 dollars to have sex. I know it is pretent but have not recognized a porn star yet. Worth $25 to me.

Due to broadcast censorship, the UK’s ‘adult’ channels are all softcore (inc. Hustler TV UK), despite the dubious claims of some broadcasters, so, IMO, are a complete waste of time, effort & money.
BTW, I find 'editing', whether due to time constraints or, in particular, censorship, completely unacceptable.
However, you can access the uncensored content from mainland European broadcasters, if you have a system that can receive signals from suitable satellites e.g. Hotbird at 13 degrees East.
The problem, however, is that most of the channels offer very poor picture quality, due to a ‘quantity over quality’ attitude, resulting in far too many channels being squeezed into too little bandwidth, with the inevitable low resolution & bitrate that results.
The best, by far IMO, is Private Spice; 72 hex 576 at 2.9 Mbits, with lots of content from Private. This channel in uncensored, showing upto and including fisting, watersports etc. - Annual subscription circa 140 Euros (obligatory disclaimer – I have no connection to Private Spice)
BTW, why is Hustler TV Europe (Astra 19 degree East) not available for general subscription, rather than as an option in packages from mainstream satellite/cable broadcasters (e.g. UPC Direct), which, generally, are only available to people resident in the respective Country of origin, rather than Europe wide?

I would like to know why a channel must be censored if you have to pay in order to even see it? It stands to reason someone who subscribes to a porn channel wants to see porn. It also stands to reason that if someone's kid "accidentally" turned on the censored porn channel, they would still see enough to pretty much figure out what's going on. So what, really, is the point of having it censored other than for the anti-porners to just to be able to say "Neener neener!"?

When the big C-Band satellite dishes were in vogue I subscribed to all of the TEN Network stations. That was the heyday with three channels to choose from 24 hours a day for a very minimal cost to soothe my healthy porn appetite. Eventually they paired the offerings down to two channels and then I think it was only one station when I finally dropped it as wasn't completely hardcore any more with anal, etc dropped/edited from the movies. I think extasy is still offered as an annual subscription on Dish Network, but it is too pricey compared to the old C-Band days. Another drawback is the number of repeated movies and the fact that they only pull from a limited number of studios.
The hotel porn I've seen is usually pretty tame and lame and pricey and with the days of business laptops, I don't need it. Thanks to adultdvdtalk I can review many dvds and enjoy them over and over at my leisure.....but I do remember those three 24 hour porn station days fondly and wouldn't mind their return :)

I don't understand it either, which is why I see no point in ordering cable porn. For what you see, you might as well just watch those nasty movies that play late at night on Cinemax and Showtime. You get to see just as much, and you don't have to pay extra.

A friend of mine bought an all-day access to one, and ran a 6-hour videotape of it, which he lent to me. Six hours of lame-ass shit. The sort of thing I'd have liked when I was 16 and had no other access, or some of my married friends who can't get/keep porn. But otherwise, it was just boring, checklist scenes. It's to erotica what HERE'S LUCY was to tv comedy.
I suppose it's good if you like the average porno. But if you have more specific interests that aren't in the mainstream (and by that I mean basic fucking and blow-jobs), they have nothing to offer.
I suppose, if I were programming it for my own tastes, I'd have 1 hour (or whatever) blocks of special stuff, along with blocks of anything-goes. The special stuff might be an hour of anal, an hour of blowjobs, an hour of strap-on lesbians, an hour of MILFs. It seems like the sort of thing you could have fun promoting. "Anal at Eight!" "Big Tits Tuesday." "Fellatio Fridays" "The Hand-job Hour."
I'd also try to pick out things that I thought were highlights, or better than average (I suppose that's difficult to do when you're filling a 24/7 schedule), because I'm sick of checklist porn (which means it looks like the director has a checklist and he periodically checks off an act and tells the performers to go to the next one. Strip. Check. Rub tits. Check. Blowjob. Check. Rimming and fingerfuck. Check. Cowgirl. Check. Missionary. Check. Doggie. Check. Anal. Check. Cum on her ass. Check. Thanks, that's all. Next couple!")

I check one out a year or so ago; it is definitely more explicit than I remember it being in the 90s. That's good, but there were no cumshots in the whole movie! The viewing period was 1 day. That was a putoff instantly. Until you guys can offer completely uncensored content that you can view for longer than a day, I doubt I'll purchase another PPV movie.
I agree with other posters about a subscription hardcore channel that offered complete access to the channel like HBO.

Like someone else mentioned, I used to have Dish Network and subscribed to the 3 available porn channels (Ten, TenClips and Xtacy) which I could watch 24/7. I LOVED those channels. I have no idea if they were edited for content, but they were full on everything. The only downside- some of the things I saw were so great that I'm now trying to go back and find these actresses and scenes. It's like trying to find a needle in a haystack sometimes knowing just a girl's face and no idea who she is. Frustrating, but a nice frustration to have I suppose.

A carry over from old days, where the selling point (before big screen HD monitors) was that the cable/satellite company was trying to sell you 500 channels, music channels and of course the "adult" channels. And yes there was a higher volume of pirated satellite transmission than at present.
However, with the rise of high quality video quality and product from all lover the place, plunking down $10-12 for an 80 minute watered down tame hc movie (that you know nothing about, or how it has been tinkered with) no longer makes sense.
Unfortunately the broadcasters do not provide the general public with statistics: how many movies are sold that way per week/month/year (city/state/region?)? How much money do they really make? What is the sharing program with the original producer? Is there a way they really track (feedback?) customer reaction/appreciation for the programming involved? Are they really pro-active/reactive to any comment they get from their customers who have ordered the movies?
My guess is since they have not changed their formula for years and years and care very little (even if there is) for feedback from clients, they will continue to operate that way until it is no longer economically feasible to do so. It will come one day (a few years back it was $7 now it's $10-12, and the more they jack up the price, the more people will get their porn from other reliable and cheaper sources). They offer bland product and want to have it both ways: "we are broadcasters who cater to varied tastes of our viewing public and do make adult material avilable to those who chose and who are capable of filtering and locking adult programming from their childern, etc", and being able to tell the porn haters that they offer edited material (no anals, no cum shots, scenss with condoms) and as such they are careful that they do not brodcast really offensive material. In other words bland material for the masses for a high price. They may fool the first time looker for a shot hile, but after a while these people will veer to other sources.

^ No ! It's all a bunch of fucking hypocrisy. The bible states Tenn., Utah, Ala. and a few more are censored. For instance I used a Virginia address and got uncensored channels although I lived in Tenn. I tried going through Dish network but when you use a Va. address you have to take the fucking locals offered in Va. and lose all kinds of sports programming. When you use the Tenn. address you lose anal and come shots. The movies were butchered beyond belief. It's fukken stupid as hell !!!!!!!! They're saying community standards are different in Tenn. than Va. the fucking Nazis and you can't even fucking get what you want in the privacy of your own fucking home !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hustler TV Europe is actually a completely separate operation from ours. I don't know the specifics of their setup nor much about European cable in general. I will ask for you, I also recommend contacting them directly: contact@hustlertveurope.com
This is a decision that is made by the cable and satellite providers. One of the big factors they take into account are the states in which they are available and the relevant attitudes regarding adult content in those states (there's that ever-ambiguous definition of "obscenity" again), but can also be as simple as an executive decision not to allow certain kinds of content to be transmitted. Unfortunately for content providers like ourselves, there's not much that can be done except give them what they want. If we don't want to adjust for their requirements, they'll just get it from someone else.
Generally the majority of the feedback for content goes to the cable company instead of us. Are the cable companies good at sharing that information with us? Not really. Mostly I suspect it's because consumers tell them things they don't want to hear ("More anal!") and don't want our case to be bolstered.
We do get a fair number of comments via our website, but it's generally requests for things we're not going to air, period (trannies, pissing). Our programming manager reads all comments and will take them into consideration.

Hey HustlerTV...One of the things that keeps being brought up is the price. Any comments on why the price is as expensive as it is? What's the price of Hustler tv? What type of movies are shown on Hustler tv? Are they all movies from Hustler video?

The price of adult movies is set by the individual cable companies. Content providers such as ourselves, Playboy, etc. don't have control over it. Hustler TV movie prices are the same as the other adult content your local cable/satellite provider offers (if it offers us in the first place). The thing to remember about the adult business in cable is that the cable/satellite companies pretty much hold all the cards. If there is something hinky going on (high prices, edited movies, etc.), it is generally at their direction.
Because different providers carry different-sized hour packages from us, the kinds of movies that are on vary from one cable/satellite provider to another. Generally we carry a variety of movies from popular genres. Hustler TV content comes from Hustler Video, Digital Playground, Evil Angel, Zero Tolerance/3rd Degree/Black Ice/Diabolic, and a number of other studios.

BTW, i have received spam emails about free Internet Adult TV where i can watch uncensored adult stuff from channels all over the world, but was afraid to click on the links cause i was scared of getting malware, viruses. Are there internet adult tv stations out there that you can watch on your computer? I do watch basketball games on certain internet tv sites, but never adult stuff. Just curious.

I wouldn't click on anything you get via e-mail. Aside from companies that offer their content online in a VOD setup, I'm not aware of adult channels that operate over the Internet, but someone else might have more information about that end than I do.

It is sold on Time Warner as XX 1/2 instead of XXX. I have heard complaints from New York to California that the Squirting, Anal and more messy cumshots are cut out. Why? Something to do with the "Memphis Standard" and fear of prosecution from areas like Utah. Hmmm, last time I was in Memphis they had half a dozen adult shops and the Dvds were exactly the same as California, uncut. I guess its an attempt at a one size or standard fits all 50 states or one big region in "-Editing Content". Cable porn in the USA is still a waste of money, go to your local shop and get it there, it won't have some geek editing out the messy cum shots.
